Looking for new info on this port. 2011 cruise

All the reviews were not very good.

Are there any good place for lunch and beaches in walking distant from the pier

How about safety?

All info you have please............ :)

If you like the beach, go on the RCL excursion to Cayo Levantado. It is an island in the middle of the bay with an exclusive resort on it. You don't have access to the resort, but the beach is beautiful and chairs are included. There is plenty of shade, bars, and a restaurant to get food. We had a very enjoyable day there in 2008. From what I hear, going into port is not a good idea unless you have arranged for a private tour with a local guide. This excursion includes the tender to and from the beach. You cannot get there any other way except with RCL.

FYI you will tender from the ship which anchors in the middle of the bay.

We did this excursion in March - it was wonderful - one of the prettiest beaches we have ever been to. Guys did come and set up and cleaned loungers for us - tipped them. But other than that no one bothered you on the beach and it was beautiful. Would go there again in a second. We did not venture into town after being told there wasn't much there and the locals were very persistant in trying to sell their goods.

Check out toursamanawithterry.com He is an American living in Samana. We have used his tours twice and have been very pleased/ Two weeks ago we did his #2 tour to the beach. It was one of the most beautiful beaches I have every been to. Drinks and lunch are included in his tour. We were a group of 12 people and I believe we were the only ones on the beach except for a few locals that run the resturant and set up chairs

We were there in February and we had a great time! Be sure to bring enough cash for any purchases. We saw some people buying plates of food from a food stand. There were also many other vendors selling various goods. Think souvenir type stuff and cigars (supposedly Cuban).

We really enjoyed this excursion and are disappointed that they removed it from the Explorer's February 2012 itinerary.

We wereon a 14 night that included Samana. Since we planned on going to the beach on the other 6 islands we decided Cayo Levantado wasnt worth the money for the 4 of us. I figured, we;d walk off the ship, buy some local paintings and thats it. Thats what we did. If you dont have an excursion booked, expect nothing of the towne. There are a dozen stray dogs on every block and the poor local boys try to sell shells to make money (we opted to just give them some money, I didnt need the shells)-then of course there is the market area with hand crafted island stuff. We purchased 2 paintings and went back to the ship.

Just a few more questions...

What time does the tour leave from the ship and do you have to stay at the beach

4hrs or can you take the boat back to the ship at anytime?

Are there anyother hotels that you can axcess for lunch?

Or just food sold at the beach/

Thanks again!!
