Princess Protection Cancel For Any Reason

So under any circumstances with Princess insurance it's always a credit back only?

No refund by check or to the CC?

Either 75% or 100% depending on Princess base insurance or Platinum?

No. You will be refunded if you cancel for a covered reason. If you cancel for 'any reason' i.e. not a covered reason, you will receive a credit to your account (expires at the end of the following calendar year).

Ok that answered my next question.

Refunded funds if for a covered reason. Is that 75%/90% or 100%?

I guess based on base Princess insurance or Platinum upgrade.

There are two grades of 'Vacation Protection':

- 'basic' (Princess Vacation Protection)

- 'platinum' (Princess Platinum Vacation Protection)

Both have "Any Reason" coverage and Princess will give a future cruise credit if you cancel at any time up until departure, for an uncovered reason:

- the 'basic' plan provides 75% of the non-refundable prepaid cruise vacation cost;

- the 'platinum' plan provides 100% of the non-refundable prepaid cruise vacation cost.

If you cancel for a covered reason as per the policy, the insurance co. will pay you the non-refundable (by Princess) cancellation fees.

If your Captain's Circle status is Platinum or Elite, you can buy the 'basic' plan, and Princess will upgrade you to the 'platinum' plan at no cost to you.

All of what people said above and this one additional item. The credit to account that Princess gives is the basic cruise far portion. Princess gives an immediate credit for port charges and taxes, which was rolled over to the replacement cruise in my case. If you've purchased obc, that gets refunded to your credit card, and in my case this happened pretty much immediately as well. The credit showed up on my credit card the following day. I don't know for sure, but probably anything that you paid up front for (specialty restaurants, drink packages, etc.) would also be refunded to your credit card.

Just one correction.

Princess will upgrade you to the Platinum plan for free if you are Ruby status (4th thru 5th cruise). I think it is called Platinum because it was originally for Platinum cruisers, but when they inserted the Ruby status a few years back, they included this upgrade.

Princess Platinum Vacation Protection Upgrade^^

As a Ruby Member, when you purchase Princess Vacation Protection at the standard rate, Princess will purchase an upgrade to Princess Platinum Vacation Protection automatically on your behalf.

Where in the terms for the cancel for any reason does it explain the expiration policy? It is not in the 12 page PDF I r grieved from the Princess website. Thank you.

I don't know this either - I didn't see it but I assumed that the credit would have an expiration. In my experience, a credit to account like that usually does. Southwest Airlines, for instance, lets you cancel with no penalty. You get an account credit that expires on the date that you originally purchased your flight.

When I got the two pdfs, one for me and one for hubby, from Princess, they showed as future cruise credits with a "sail by" date of 12/31/18. That worked fine for me.

I'm wondering if the replacement cruise booked with the credit from cancel-for-any-reason can be insured for cancellation. I know that third-party insurance does not recognize credits or gift cards as a form of payment eligible for reimbursement in case of cancellation.

You can still get coverage for medical/evacuation/travel related expenses, but I'm wondering what happens if you have to cancel the second cruise even if it is an otherwise covered reason. Does Princess Platinum allow for another credit or do you just lose the money?

Probably a remote possibility that anyone has to cancel two in a row, but it could happen. Anybody know how it works?

Sorry to have to bring up a 6 month thread but this one seemed most similar to my concerns.

Is there a list showing what the Princess Platinum covers "for any reason" that will allow for reimbursement of funds instead of cruise credit?

We are possibly going to need to cancel our cruise in February '18 due to an out of state job relocation which will also require us to sell our home. We prefer to be able to use the cancelled cruise $$$ in a refund instead of cruise credit.

Anyone have any info or experience with this that they would be able to share?

Princess Platinum Insurance....Cancel for any reason.

If medical..cash refund

Other reasons..Credit

This is how it goes.

There certainly are other covered reasons besides medical:

Princess Cruise Cancellation & Interruption Fee Waiver

(For Specified Reasons).................................................Cash Refund Up to Total Cruise Vacation Cost

This Cancellation Fee Waiver Program is an addendum to your cruise Ticket Contract. Through the Cancellation Fee Waiver Program, Princess Cruises and/or Princess Tours will waive their standard cancellation provision and refund to you IN CASH the otherwise non-refundable value of the unused portion of your prepaid cruise vacation,should you or your traveling companion need to cancel or interrupt your cruise vacation for any one of the following reasons (subject to the restrictions noted below**):

1. sickness, injury or death to yourself, a traveling companion, or members of either of your immediate families which is diagnosed and treated by a physician at the time your cruise vacation is terminated;

2. involvement in a traffic accident en route to departure that causes you to miss your cruise;

3. your home is made uninhabitable by a natural disaster such as flood, earthquake, hurricane, volcano,tornado, wildfires or blizzard;

4. being called to serve jury duty or subpoena;

5. you are called into active military service to provide aid or relief in response to a national disaster.

Princess Cancellation Fee Waiver refunds are also provided if you are charged a change in occupancy/ singlesupplement charge as a result of your traveling companion’s cancellation due to one of the reasons cited above.

In the FAQs on the Princess website there is now a link to view the actual insurance certificate by selecting your state of residence:

Air is only covered if you purchased it through Princess.

hmm that would be a good bonus then. normally i wouldnt buy through a cruiseline but if i can get the full air amount toward a future cruise it would be good.

can air only be applied to future air or is the money all in one bucket to spend just on a cruise if i find one locally next time?

i think for the money the plan is a steal if this is true CFAR at 100%. i have no problem keeping my money with princess for a year in that case.

When I had to cancel 5 days out from a cruise last year (using "cancel for any reason" clause) the ez-air airfare portion was refunded to my credit card and the cruise portion was refunded in a credit for a future cruise (good until Dec 31st this year).

thanks for this info everyone. i booked today and leave in just 4 weeks. i got lucky and got great airfare and times and the casino rate on the ship cannot be beat. 558 total for the both of us for the week for obst balc. i'm thrilled!

the princess TA told me since i got platinum that they would get me to the next port but she was fuzzy on who would pay for 2 nites of hotel until the ship caught up to me lol. anyone know how that works.

i asked about a snow storm and she pretty much said you pay for the change in air but they pay you back. does this sound right? reason i ask is i cannot imagine how much a new trip would cost when you are standing at the gate. something tells me very very high

Last summer my friend and I were flying into Athens from NYC to do a Greek Isles Cruise. I was on a Delta 5:30 flight, she was behind me on a Delta 7:30 flight. We both booked through EZAir. After 3 hours on the tarmac, my flight was given clearance to take off. Her flight was canceled after 5 hours on the tarmac. She never made it. Delta offered to route her through London, where she would have a hotel then a connecting flight to finally catch up with the ship 3 days later in Montenegro. The first greek isle had no airport and then there was a day at sea. But, they could not guarantee her her luggage at any point and thought it highly unlikely that she would get it. She canceled, covered by Princess insurance. She received full cash refund of the air but a future credit on the cruise. And it took months. I don't know why. It was handled by her travel agent. Since we both had our own balcony rooms, it was a substantial amount of money but that didn't factor in. It's just a segway into more bad news for her. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy with reconstruction this week. Our hope is that she will recover and use that cruise credit before time runs out.

Does Princess Platinum Insurance: "cancel for any reason" include weather related conditions? ie: cancelled flights, changing mind due to hurricane damage at port of embarkation?

If you are willing to accept the FCC under the Cancellation Fee Waiver Program and not try to claim "covered reason" to obtain a refund--then you don't have to state any reason at all. Just have cancelled before the deadline.

Weather can never be a covered reason. If the ship is able to sail you are expected to make all herculean effort to reach the embarkation port. Or a subsequent port if the common carrier you engaged to get you there fails to do so. Any additional travel expenses would be reimbursed under the Travel Protection Plan Coverage.

ok, this is my understanding too.

Wondering what happened a few years ago when many had problems getting to Santigo Chile to board ship for cruise around the horn-after an earthquake there. Can someone point me to that thread that discussed this situation?
