Dublin-port to city centre

Recommended Posts

We are on the Norwegian Jade in September. We have booked many excursions but would like to do Dublin on our own (we have been there before). How far from center is the port? Can we walk from the port? Thank you for any help.

We walked. Easy and only took about 30 minutes (or would have except we stopped to take some pictures).

Just ask directions leaving the port to get to the port gate - they even had a woman standing out there to direct folks. Most of the walk is along the river and pretty much dumps you on O'Connell St. No problem!

We have docked in Dublin a number of times. Yes, cruise lines we have travelled with have always run shuttle buses from the port. Used to be to Kildare Street, but that location seems to have changed now, but is not far away. Time for the shuttle to go to the city centre was more like 10 mins (if that) when we have been there.

It is walkable to the city, but a very long walk. We did it once for the walk along the river, but rode back. Definitely not a 30 mins journey, unless for some reason there is a lot of traffic, but we have never known much traffic along the river. Would likely have taken a fair while in the last couple of days, when the Pope was in town though :)

It is about 30 - 40 minutes walk along the quays to O'Connell Bridge. Alternatively, you can walk out of the port (about 10- 15 mins) and catch the Luas ( www.luas.ie ) at The Point stop on the red line which brings you to city centre. I recommend getting off at the Abbey Street stop and then you can transfer to the Green Line as well. Depending on where you want to go, you can walk to most attractions from the Abbey Street stop. (very close to O'Connell Street)

We were just there on a Princess cruise. They provided a free shuttle from the port to the city center. I believe the shuttle ride was about 30 min.

Now the Princess shuttle is free? We were there 2 years ago and we paid $10 for the Princess shuttle. I am currently on Regal Princess and we will get to the Dublin port in 3 days. Let's see if it is still free. :)

We were on the June 30 Royal Princess sailing this year, and the Princess shuttle into Dublin city center was $8 one way or $16 return. I had read that earlier sailings in June was free, before the peak season starts. So it seems the cost is at the discretion of Princess and can vary.

Unless you share a taxi it’ll cost more than 10 euros. We were there 2 full days in July and took taxi everywhere avg 15-20 euros. Traffic esp in mornings will increase the rate very quickly. Still with 4 people it’s cheaper than Princess shuttle. The metro tram is another option which is roughly a mile walk and there are rent a bikes there as well and their bike stands are all over the city.
