Pardon me if this has been answered before. I wonder-if you have your points changed into onboard credit and you don't use all of the credit, do you just lose it or do you get a refund?

Terms & Conditions:

Offer may be used by individuals, participants in qualified group bookings, by single guests and for use with 3rd and 4th guest bookings. This is a cruise only offer. Offer applies to individual bookings and based on double occupancy. Singles paying 200% of the rate are eligible for onboard credit per stateroom amount. Onboard credit must be used or WorldPoints® will be forfeited. Onboard credit may not be used toward onboard service charges or pre-purchased activities. Employee and Sixthman charters are not applicable. Offer is not applicable to chartered sail dates. Cancellation may result in the forfeit of WorldPoints and is not covered by Travel Protection. Points cannot be redeemed for Travel Protection. The standard cancellation policy applies.

So, instead of OBC while on NCL, DH and I found credit card statement credits to be of more value, overall, for us.

I have $100 (or I guess actually points) for getting the NCL credit card. Can that only be used on a cruise as obc? Is it transferable to a family member if I'm not going to cruise, or is there any other way to use it, maybe to pay down the credit card? Thanks.

Can't be used to pay down your card or transferred to a family member. If you're going to use the card as a supplementary one, then redeem it as OBC for yourself on a future cruise. If you're going to use it as your primary card, then the best bet is to accumulate 30,000 or 60,000 points and use it to upgrade your cabin via a single or double meta upgrade. You can research this throughout the thread.

You can use your points for statement credit instead of onboard credit if you like. 5000 points will lower your bill by $50. If you have enough points for $100 onboard credit I’m assuming you have 10,000 points so you could get $100 statement credit. I prefer to use the points this way because even if I go on a cruise I can earn more points by just paying for things during the cruise and then getting a statement credit after the cruise is over. You wind up increasing your points balance while getting cash attributed to your credit card statement.

You are incorrect. I have used points to purchase statement credit on at least five different occasions. Each time I purchased $50 off my statement using 5000 points. One time I saved up 30,000 points and used it to upgrade from an Ocean view to a balcony.

Thank you. I haven’t used it but the one time to get the points. How would I use it to pay down the card? I can easily charge $100 but do I call to ask for statement credit before or after I use it? Thank you.

Thank you again. I went online to the card and found rewards. It gave me the option to put on my statement or get a check. It was $82 instead of the $100 I was told the obc would be, but I’m happy.. found money!

OK never mind I had a question about points but i've found the answer myself. And looking back I see that I apparently have used the points for money back on the account at some point in the past a couple of times. instead of accruing it as I should have been.

Just a side note in case anyone has the AMEX Platinum card - the points that card accrues varies based on which retailer you cash them in at, so be wary when getting your cash in - I like to get an iPad every couple of years and it makes a couple hundred bucks difference based on which place I get it. Keeping in mind the sale price etc.

who do i contact to upgrade our cabin and can we do it after final payment? thanks

I called Worldpoints/NCL at 1-866-954-4077 to go from a B3 to a B1 aft facing balcony for 10,000 points. I did it right as I booked but I seem to recall that others on this thread have said they called after Final Payment to get upgraded. Hopefully someone else will answer that part of your question.

If you had 10,000 points it should have been a $100 statement credit. I would have questioned it.

Be aware that the phone number you need to call to redeem your credit card points into OBC, is closed on Saturday and Sunday. I learned this lesson the hardway when I waited to redeem some OBC until the last minute, in order to have more credit. The points in your account remain "pending" until the statement closes. My statement unfortunately closed on a Saturday, with cruise departure on Sunday. Bank of America was completely useless to help, as they explained, "You need to call the cruise company for that." I ended up being able to convert to cash (8 cents per point), so did no lose significant money, but peace of mine of having OBC is one of the things I look forward to. There are too many other cards out there with far better values/rewards...I will be leaving Bank of America.

Oh Peg !

just happened to see your name pop up.

Don't take the first thing they offer.

Let me know if you need more information.

(We have been here so many times before.)

with so many inquiries,

THIS thread is no longer a FAQ :)

Good luck.

I don’t know the answer to her question but I don’t see any problem with her asking it! She is asking a question about the NCL master card rewards and if not to answer questions about the rewards program of this card, what are we doing here???

Thank you, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong by posting that question.

With 233 pages dating back to 2007 I tried to do a search to find the answer to my question before posting. Hoping someone who has successfully (or not) did this recently could shed some light.

Basically, 2 people with their own NCL card sharing a cabin. Can they each get the onboard credit applied?

I think the only way you will know for sure is to call the number I posted a few posts back in this thread. But considering one person can cash in more than 10,000 points for OBC in a cabin, I don't see what it would matter if two people in the same cabin each cashes in 10,000 points for OBC. If you call, please come back to let us all know the answer.

I just called and they said we can not get upgrade if we booked with CAS . We got 20% of our cruise and saved about 1000 dollars with them we get a drink card to use in casino and we can get bottle water there also . We do have the drink package too. So will world points BOA card send me cash in a check if I want we have 3700 points?

That answers my main question... can I book a discounted CAS room and still use points to upgrade the room. Seems the answer was no...

Im sure this has been asked & answered but I have tried searching the thread & cant find it in this huge thread. I would greatly appreciate if anyone knows, I have a few questions :)

  1. We are cruising with Total Rewards program- can I use the points for room upgrades? I see that you cannot with the Casino At Sea program, so I am guessing I cannot but I figured I would ask
  2. Assuming I cannot use the points for room upgrades, I will use them for on board credit. I see that we cannot use for prepaid activities- does this mean I can book an excursion on board and then my points will be applied to that excursion?
  3. If we book a specialty restaurant on board, could we use our on board credit for that?

We have the drink package and dont purchase much else besides maybe internet and then casino charges (which I have to assume you couldnt use the on board credit for lol) so Im trying to see if it is even worth using this card.

Thank you in advance!

I was under the impression that I could get 10% account credit or cash back because I had received 10% in the past but I discovered that I only get 10% if I’m cashing in 25,000 points or greater. They only give 5% cash back if you cash in less than 25000 points.

I'm thinking that I'm going to close out my NCL MC after our cruise in Sept. Let's face it! It's not the best Rewards card on the market! I have about 35,000 points I did have only 55,000 before I booked the cruise and could only afford to buy the Inside cabin and use 30,000 to upgrade to obstructed oceanview. I do wish I waited until the payment of the cruise was posted so I could've upgraded from inside to balcony! I didn't want to take the chance and wait because the rates might've increased!

I have not paid the gratuities yet. What's the best way to use these points? 30,000=$300. It doesn't seem like a lot and if I put them into an OBC to use for gratuities, then I wouldn't get the triple points for paying the tips with my MC. We don't plan on purchasing anything big onboard or run up a huge bar bill or NCL's excursions.

Will I lose money if I wait until we get home to get credit back? I know I have several months after cruising to ask for the credit. We're not planning on going on NCL next yr., as of now. What's your experience with this?
