Auckland Hotel help

We are staying in Auckland December 13-15 post cruise. What is the preferred district for cruisers? We would like location that is convenient from the pier and to the airport and has local attractions and restaurants that we can walk to. Our ideal hotel would be less than $200 US dollars. Our hotel doesn't need to be a posh 5 star high rise, but we are open to those if they are in our price range. We often stay at the smaller 4 star boutique hotels. The rooms don't need to be large, but they must be very clean and we want a good location. Any help is appreciated.

We are staying pre-cruise (Dec 11-13) at Ponsonby Manor. We searched a lot - LOL! but really liked the communication of the owners, their assistance, and their Victorian home is simply stunning with great reviews. Not in CBD, but easily accessible via the great bus system. We booked via a hotel booking site (for free cancellation options).

We stayed pre-cruise at the Waldorf Celestion Apartments - close to the Britomart and the wharf (walking distance). With it being an apartment, the nearby supermarket makes it easy to cater yourself. And it is a short walk to all buses, trains and ferries, if you want to explore further afield. It is popular for cruisers, so on the morning of cruises leaving, the two lifts can become very busy. But as you are staying post-cruise, you shouldn't run into these problems.
