Talk to me about NCL Bermuda cruise...

Recommended Posts

We did the BA to Bermuda last August and loved it. Bermuda is beautiful and the people are so friendly. It’s expensive to visit but IMO it’s worth it.

I will say the waters going down the coast were fairly high so the ship rocked quite a bit. But I would do the cruise again in a heartbeat

We will be going on our second trip to Bermuda in Sept on the Escape and we are really looking forward to it. I bought a Bermuda travelers guide on Amazon and am doing more research this time around. There is plenty to do, and its pretty easy to get around from what I've heard. We will be planning to eat on the boat however, as it is pricey to do so on the island. Here is an idea of our itinerary so far:

Day 1 - St George via ferry - St Peters, Unfinished Church & Museum

Day 2 - Crystal Caves

Day 3 - Aquarium

All accessible via public transport pass!

Our favorite place to visit; being there 3 days is great! You can be as busy or relaxed as you want... From beaches, jet skiing, sunset sails, horse rides by the water, visiting towns, museums, caves, neighborhoods...

Just a beautiful island with beautiful, beautiful people...

We didn’t do any excursions really. We wanted to explore on our own. We went to the crystal caves and to the original swizzle in. Both were so fun, the caves are beautiful! The food at swizzle in was pricey but completely worth it just bc of how fun the place is.

We went to the beach near the dockyard and it was a decent beach but it wasn’t the best. We should’ve gone to one of the more popular beaches. Lesson learned, we will go next time!

We walked all over St. George, it’s a charming town. So much history.

We were going to go to Harbor nights in Hamilton but it got canceled bc of rain so we ended up wandering the dockyard and exploring. Got some glass ornaments and some rum cake (it’s beyond delicious).

There is a fun pirate ship right in the dockyard, pay a price and swim, jump from the plank all you want. Our girls were 9 and 11 at the time and had an absolute blast there.

There is still so much more we want to see so we will definitely be back

We have never done a cruise to Bermuda... Everyone's thoughts on this cruise? I'm just wondering if 1) there is plenty to do in Bermuda for 3 days, 2) people enjoy just being "parked" in Bermuda and 3) 2 days at sea to get there is fun. Thanks in advance!!!

ok. here is our take on Bermuda: we did it two months ago and it was an enjoyable cruise but to be honest once is enough for us. The island is clean, friendly and nice, bur we have seen others we thought were more scenic. While in Bermuda we did the glass bottom boat and tour around the island. We also just did a troll tour. I am sorry we didn't choose something a little more exciting. the boat was a great short tour. The trolley was not anything special. Now there are other things to do and we were really not there 3 days, by the time we got there and then the time we left. Some of the tours we really wanted to take were not available the days we wanted them.

I don't know what ship are thinking about, but we did the Dawn. The crew was so friendly the worst cruise in the world would have been fun with that crew.

Again, remember this is just our experience. Some we talked to felt just like we did while others have done the cruise several times and love it.

We did this cruise on the BA two years in a row. I would've loved to have gone on the escape to Bermuda this year but dh wanted to try a new itinerary. There is so much to do that when we do go again we won't be repeating anything, other than Horseshoe Bay. We did a catamaran snorkel trip, a car tour of the island, Wednesday nite Harbor nite, Horseshoe Bay and 1 other beach that I can't remember the name of. We also shopped and ate in the port. We loved 3 days in Bermuda and wish there were more trips like this.

We did Bermuda on the Dawn in May. Fabulous! We all agreed that we would like to go back. We did the sunset cruise and on day 2, we rented pedal bikes and (attempted) to make it around the island via the old RR trail. Who knew there were so many hills? And I'm not a big bike person, so my outta shape self and sore butt didn't help matters! Didn't make it to the caves or beaches, so I would like to go back and check those out!

I am just back today from Dawn to Bermuda. Dawn is not my favorite ship, but Bermuda is my happy place. This was my 10th trip. I sailed with a group of 8 ladies this time, but often sail solo. 2-1/2 days is not enough to see this beautiful island. I always find something different to do, while including my favorites - horseshoe beach and swizzle inn! This time we did a trail ride that took us onto Warwick Long Bay Beach - absolutely amazing - and visited Fort St Catherine’s - a really cool historic site with beautiful beaches on both sides!! We also walked the beach path from Warwick Long Bay to Horseshoe, along the cliffs and it was amazing. I Love staying in port overnight. It gives you so much freedom, without worrying about missing the ship.... at least until the last day!!!

We have done Bermuda on The Breakaway 3 times in the last 4 years,Haven't yet tried the Escape, however I am sure it will be terrific also. First trip with teenage kids, and grandma . The second and third trip just as a couple. Bermuda is fantastic. It is not a seedy tourist trap island selling t-shirts, etc. St. George is interesting, the museum at the dockyards , and the glass factoryare great. Take the bus to the beach. You can do as much or as little as you want, Walk around Hamilton, Play golf. It's lovely to have3 days on an island and not have to rush back to the ship for 2 of those nights if you choose.

I'm so glad I found this thread! Heading to Bermuda for the first time in September. Reading all these positive experiences makes me very excited.

Question...We are renting a Twizy and it's for a 24 hour period. What does everyone recommend to do in the evenings? We'd like to find a nice place to see the sunset, but then afterwards? We're not really bar people but would like to take advantage of having transportation and see some sights....

We LOVED Bermuda, family of 4. Being parked allowed us to be more relaxed in how we saw the island. I hope to do it again, because there were things we didn't have time to do. If you have a membership to your local science center, check and see if it is reciprocal. Ours allowed us free entry into the Bermuda Institute of Underwater Exploration. It's an interesting museum with exhibits on the island, the marine life around it, and ship wrecks-including many artifacts. We did this in the morning, it took a couple hours. Then had lunch and went to the Crystal Caves in the afternoon.

What excursions and activities did you do?

We’ve been to Bermuda a few times. We actually had two Bermuda cruises scheduled last year. One from New York and one from New Jersey. This link give you an idea of what’s available on the ship (this year the Breakaway’s sister ship is doing the itinerary) https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2504449

We did horseshoe bay. There are shuttles right on the dock that take you all the way to the beach ($7 per person each way). You can catch a public bus, but it drops you at the top of “heart attack hill” which you need to climb down/up.

We caught the public ferry ($4.50 per person each way) over to Hamilton. And we did an island tour to see the island.

Also did the Harbor Nights festival in Hamilton. (wedesday night).

Lots to do in three days.

Our second cruise to Bermuda last year ended up in Halifax running from a Hurricane.

Ok, after reading this thread, I'm considering a cruise to Bermuda...something I hadn't considered because

1. I'm not sure if the casino is open at night while the ship is in port and

2. I've always had the impression that Bermuda is oppressively hot

Can anyone speak to either of these?

We loved Bermuda and definitely want to go back. We did the Dawn out of Boston and would like to go again and do it the cruise out of NY. We spent 2 nights in Boston afterwards. It was one of our favorite trips we've taken.

I don't know that Bermuda ever gets oppressively hot, I think it's temperatures are generally the same year round. Summer I would think would be the hottest. I know the locals don't recommend visiting until after June because the water temperatures don't warm up until then. It's the Atlantic, not the Caribbean so water temperatures are a bit cooler. We were the next to last cruise of the season in October and thought the air temperatures were perfect but we did luck out I think with the weather as the cruise before ours was a washout. But we absolutely loved Bermuda and can't wait to go back.

I'm pretty sure the casino was open every night but admittedly I wasn't really paying attention.

Casino opens at 9:00 pm on the days it is docked in Bermuda. The nice thing is, with all the at sea time, the Casino is open pretty much all the time the other days!
