(Be it for cancelled port, bottle of sunblock stolen from my cabin, bad weather --- you name it.)

Here's the one that I hear every time I pass through a port or airport, and every time it makes me wince:

"This is the last and final call for..."

Last AND final? What does 'last' mean, if not 'final'? How long before we have:

"This is the last, final, ultimate, finishing and conclusive call for the last remaining passengers..."
