A Complete Guide for New Smoking Areas on NCL vessels

While underway, you can smoke occasionally on the balcony. No one cares unless there are multiple smokers or you are running like a chimney. Just shut your balcony door and stay behind the dividers. Of course, don't smoke while you neighbor next door (down wind) is out unless they are cool with it.

Smoking on a balcony is not allowed and a fire hazard. Getting caught can get you thrown off the ship.

I encourage non-smokers to buy cigarettes for the trip and hang out in the smoking room, you meet the coolest people there.

That is so true! I'm still in touch with people that I met in the smoking areas on cruises!

ESCAPE

Haven - deck 19 (designated area)

H2O - deck 17 (area around the bar)

Waves Bar - deck 17

Humidor - deck 8

Casino - deck 7 (designated area)

Note: Vibe is non smoking so you have to leave the Vibe and go down 2 decks to smoke. Defeats the purpose of the Vibe pass for smokers, so don't run the gauntlet for a pass if you smoke. :D Honestly, I am not sure why smokers can not have a designated smoking section in the Vibe since those in the Haven have a smoking area on the other side of the partition. I was told it was due to fire safety but that made zero sense to me

For Breakaway fans, note that there is no smoking anywhere on the Waterfront.

We are not cool with it. It doesn't contain itself to the cabin next door. It goes all the way down the ship, and a couple/few decks up. We paid just as much money to be able to enjoy our balconies.

Can you smoke cigarettes in the escape cigar bar?

Yes you can. Note that of all NCL ships, Escape's cigar room has the WORST ventilation. The air filtration system has not worked properly since the ship's opening. In fact they even brought in portable air filter machines but they really don't help.

Upon boarding, you will find the humidor very crowded as it is one of the only places you can smoke while the ship is being fueled.

The original post was from 3 years ago when the rules regarding smoking on balconies were relatively new. :D

I'd also like to know if the Vibe has a designated smoking area or if it is non-smoking.

I made the mistake of purchasing a Vibe pass on the Escape, based on my experiences on the Breakaway, only to find out that the closest designated smoking area was 2 decks away on and halfway across the ship. ;p Don't want to make that mistake again since the passes are so limited and should be for purchased by those that will really use them.

Regarding smoking on the Bliss, from what I read on other posts, there is only 3 places to smoke. In the enclosed casino (when open), the cigar lounge, and one section at H20 (not at the bar). If its different than that, I will post what I found, boarding Bliss this Saturday.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help.

I wish NCL would just list the designated smoking areas on each ship as Carnival does! Finding this information really should not be so difficult or dependent on word of mouth.

I think NCL is moving towards completely non-smoking ships with the current reports that ships with 4000+/- passenger capacity only have 3 or 4 designated smoking areas and none of them covered outdoor areas. I wonder why they bothered with the smokers box in the casino on the Bliss, rather than just making it a non-smoking casino?

Just got off the Pearl Alaskan cruise. Lots of cigarette smokers in Corona Cigar lounge. A few of us cigar smokers, remember to bring your own sticks in a humidor. They sell a limited number, but attendant came by once per 45 minutes. This is really just a room with no windows, big leather chairs and ashtrays. Waiters come by every now and then. They can only sell cigars while at sea. Bring a cheap bic lighter if you can, and a cutter. Casino smoking was allowed while at sea, no smoking allowed on balconies.

Any outdoor covered areas with seating, not bar stools?

The Haven also has a designated outdoor smoking area.

Thanks so much Tracy!

Sounds like the Bliss has the same set up forward as the Escape . . . i.e. Haven has a designated outdoor smoking area while on the other side of the partition, the upcharge "adult" Vibe area does not.

Honestly, I think it is a rather odd business decision to have a sundeck catering to families with a designated smoking area while an adults only sundeck right next door does not.

Were the places to smoke on the Escape very crowded? Trying to figure out were I can enjoy my morning coffee and smoke on the Escape.

Does the H2O Bar and Waves Bar have plenty of room to relax and enjoy your cocktail and smoke.

I REALLY hope not to hear rude comments.

Waves bar has a railing opposite the bar with seating overlooking the pool. There are also high-top tables and chairs -- all designated smoking. More crowded during the day than the mornings but it's a great spot. H2O has a section near the bar with chairs and tables as well for smoking.

When I was on the Escape in May, there were a total of 12 regular seat height chairs outdoors for the entire population of smokers. They are located at 3 tables by the H20 bar. If you get to H20 before 7-8am, you might get lucky.

All other outdoor seating is bar stools or a half dozen low deep half round wicker chairs in H20. I'd say total outdoor seating for smokers is around 35-45.

I did not find anywhere on the ship that was comfortable for smokers to sit, have a drink and chat with friends, i.e. linger and enjoy except those 3 tables in H2O which were hard to get.

Be prepared to have to stand to smoke. You will feel lucky when you find an available seat.

If it is raining, seats will be available but you won't want to sit, lol.

Smokers might want to pack one of those camp chairs with the side table attached for a cruise on the Escape and, from what I have read, also on the Bliss. They are easier to carry around to the appropriate areas and guarantee you have a seat.

we always went to the waves bar and it was not crowded at all especially in the morning. They have coffee set up until 8:00 am. After that you can get a cup outside at Margaritaville.

Excited to hear this about the Escape. The only bad thing about the Vibe on the Breakaway was that roughly 60 - 70% of the people were smoking, and not just at the bar. Still had a blast, but yes lots of smoke.
