If your sailing on Sun is "all-inclusive" open bar like the Sky, the drinks are included but you pay a higher DSC.

If that is the case, you will not pay the 20% service charge on the UBP.

Norwegian Sky All-Inclusive and Norwegian Sun All-Inclusive (Port Canaveral sailings only)

$22.99 USD per person per day for Suites

$19.99 USD per person per day for all other stateroom types

You will pay the 18% gratuity on the "cost" of the package, even if it's "free" to you.

That’s different than the open bar short cruises to Cuba...

And I tip when I use a gift card, BTW...not sure why you went there with this thread.

When you book and then log into my NCL.com it'll show what you'll owe. You can prepay or wait and pay on board.

I thought the beverage package gratuities had to be paid by final cruise payment.

Otherwise, NCL would have to redo keycards.

There are different things being discussed in the thread.

The DSC can be pre-paid before boarding or can be paid daily from the onboard account.

The service charge for the UBP promo is paid with final payment before boarding the ship.

In the case of the OP, the DSC is all that needs to be paid. There is no UBP promo service charge in the OP's case as the higher DSC/cruise fare covers everything related to UBP drinks ($15 and under, no bottled water, etc.).

Can someone define the abreviations, please? What is OP, DSC, etc?

OP usually refers to the person who started the thread (original poster).

DSC is what NCL calls their daily service charge (some call it a discretionary service charge) and other lines call theirs something similar (hotel service charge, daily automatic gratuity, etc.). It's that "thing" that cruise lines often charge guests per day as a service charge/gratuity/tip/whateveryouwanttocallit.

Don't argue about what it is, where it goes, or why it exists....not worth the trouble on the forum.

Does anyone know how gratuities work when it’s Free open bar? The cruise I’m looking at has free at sea options, but the open bar is included. It’s not clear to me what extra fees there will be.

Thanks!

Gratuities work the same as usual. Tip who you want when you want however much you want.
