Does anyone else here think that the new Cunard Queen will sail a tandem transatlantic crossing with the QM2 in 2022? I happen to think and hope that this will happen. Remember that the QE2 did a tandem transatlantic crossing with the QM2 both in 2004 and 2008, QE2 did a tandem transatlantic crossing with the Queen Victoria in 2008 and Queen Victoria did a tandem crossing with the Queen Elizabeth in 2011. Anyone else agree with me? Regards,Jerry

Here are 2 youtube videos. The first one has photos of the QE2 sailing a tandem crossing with the Queen Victoria and the photos were taken aboard Queen Victoria. The second one you can see the QE2 sailing her last transatlantic crossing alongside the QM2. Here are the links to the videos

and
Enjoy watching. And someone else filmed both videos. Regards,Jerry

The QM2/QE2 tandem sailings were meant to pass the transatlantic baton to the new Queen and to give the retiring Queen a proper farewell. With the fourth ship being built by "Tin Can Eri" she's likely to top out at 17 knots so any tandem crossing would take longer then seven days.

The QE2 did a tandem crossing with the Queen Victoria though it did take 8 days. Then the Queen Victoria did a tandem crossing with the Queen Elizabeth in 2011 and again the crossing lasted 8 days. Regards,Jerry

Does Red Hook have space to dock two large ships?
In January 2008 the QE2 and Queen Victoria docked at the Manhattan Hudson River Piers 88 and 90. In January 2011 when all 3 current Cunard Queens were in the Port of New York, the Queen Victoria & Queen Elizabeth were at the Manhattan Hudson River Piers 88 and 90, the QM2 was at her Brooklyn pier. QM2 can dock in Manhattan if necessary but last did so in September 2014. The Coast Guard isn't happy that her backside extends into the shipping channel.

As for eight day crossings, I brought this up with one of the ship officers at a party. It seems that 8-day crossings were also unpopular with him as there are maintenance procedures which cannot be done when the ship is underway.

I do remember that for the first 2 years when she entered service 2004 and 2005 QM2 did dock at the Manhattan Hudson River Piers until the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal opened in April 2006. And one day in September 2006 QM2 had to dock in Bayonne,New Jersey which is the same dock that the Royal Caribbean & Celebrity Cruise Ships use because a Princess Cruise Ship was docked at the same Brooklyn pier the QM2 docks at. As for the 8 day crossings, QM2 only does 1 or 2 of them each year. Regards,Jerry
