Is having a casino onboard important to you?

The Casino on our recent cruise on the Encore......we felt is was small enough and certainly quiet enough to give those who wanted to indulge in bit of fun the opportunity, without imposing on the area of the club. It seemed suitably positioned opposite the upper rear of the bar area and not near the band or dance floor & lounge seating. It’s in a part of the ship to visit later in the evening to enjoy a clubby atmosphere and it seemed to fit in. We did not find it imposing or loud at all. Our husbands, who are not big gamblers, did sit in on a few hands of blackjack & had a great time. It was generally quiet on our particular cruise.

Chairsin, you are so funny. Like several of you, I would prefer no casinos on Seabourn ships as I find them tacky (and ok, tawdry if you want to get right down to it). We avoid all gambling in our everyday lives. BUT--I realize I have a choice. We COULD do Viking Ocean cruise if we were that offended. Instead, we just don't frequent the Club except for Port Talks, Trivia and such.

Some people like to have a casino. On one of our Caribbean cruises the casino was very lively. On sea days I will sometimes play in the Poker tournament if they have one (these are usually in the afternoon). One of my neighbors just got back from a Seabourn cruise and played both poker and blackjack .... and won.

The casino is part of the overall entertainment offering. For myself, I would 'prefer' that there was no classical music entertainment. But I realize that some people like that. It is all about tolerance.

That's what I was saying---I know I have choices--and choose to stay with Seabourn. I can avoid the casino and others can certainly avoid the classical music!! I will also avoid the Caribbean!

I think Seabourn did a nice job with this small casino. It’s not tacky and certainly not tawdry. They chose a blackjack table, a roulette table and a few slots. My husband is quite a gentleman and enjoyed a few hands of blackjack with some likeminded gentlemen....all wearing jackets. He even enjoyed a fine cigar in the appropriate place on board. He is a classical music aficionado to boot. Go figure. That’s why our first Seabourn Cruise won’t be our last.

It always amazes me that people want to take away what they do not use. A couple of years ago someone suggested taking all the baths out as they only used the shower. We are all different and the facilities are there if you use them or not but do not assume because you do not like them nobody else should have them.

PS I have never used the Casino and do not propose to..

Please keep hands off the bathtubs and what little classical music SB provides!👿 Sitting under warm bubbles after a busy excursion is just what my almost always aching muscles need.

But management wants full ships with happy pax ready to pay as much as possible, and not jump to another line, so they survey pax about what is most desired and adapt to new interests.

I think Regent has an option for a room with bath and ok shower or a room with a giant shower for two or one person of size and no bath is becoming more popular, and SS has variable options too.

As for the casino, that will likely go the way smoking went, and dress codes are going, unless old-fashioned James Bond movies get more popular.

Speaking of James Bond movies, If you go on a SB voyage AND Handre is your CD AND you choose to play team trivia, make sure you study up on Bond movies beforehand. There was a question every single day on this topic.

Dalliowner, I don't think anyone here (including me the thread starter) is asking that some amenity be removed from the ship. We are just stating what we think about casinos onboard (good or bad) and whether they are important to us. I assume that there are some who would not sail on a ship without a casino. I totally get that. Same with bathtubs, etc.

I started the thread because I was curious to learn what others here thought on this topic.

i'm not a casino gambler - so maybe don't get the mindset - but would seem to me the casino is something if you want to use it - you will find it - like the gym - or the smoking area.

you don't accidentedly - start gambling because you walked through it on the way to somewhere - you either like to gamble occasionally or not( like the gym - no one suddenly starts using the gym on a ship- they plan for it)....

so my roundabout point is if it's something that the people who use it will seek it out - then they can plan for it in an area less visibly invasive.....so in this case moving entrances or access point or softening view from other areas with drapes etc - won't lose them the people who use the casino - but won't annoy those that find the lights/noise etc invasive... am sure most people wouldn't want to eat their lunch on a patio looking into the gym etc....

as in smokers will find the smoking area - but non- smokers get annoyed having to walk through a cloud to access something else......

The casino is where it is. On the 'O' class ships it can be barely seen from the Club. If you don't want to go in then don't. If you don't like to look at it then go to a different venue.

doesn't make a difference to me....but if the casino impacts on another area...it would seem logical for them to soften that impact somehow......if you're not going to the casino why have the noise and lights bleed into another area....seems bad space planning...

I think what a Roxburgh is trying to say is that in its present location the impact is minimal. I for one have never noticed noise or bright lights or whatever from the casino impacting enjoyment of other in the Club.

then that sounds very reasonable....i suppose i am thinking of spa treatment rooms - being overtaken by outdoor noise - the spa won't impact on the pool but the pool can impact on the spa.....

I think that we need to be careful here because SLSD is referring to the casino on Encore and Ovation.

I believe that Roxburgh, Chairsin and myself, who don't find the casino intrusive are referring to it on the O class ships. It does appear to be more noticeable on the new ships, at least looking at the deck plans.

And, my original question was, "Is having a casino onboard important to you?" The intrusive issue is another issue. I thought the casino was intrusive on Encore and Ovation--but others may not see it the same way. I understand that. We all see things differently.

i suppose the question might be....if you got am email today from seabourn - saying on your next cruise which you have paid for- the casino has been replaced by a jazz bar/ speaking lounge/ classical music/ ballroom dance lounge/ area......would you be happy or sad...would you think to cancel....

You missed a bit .........

and because of the loss of casino revenue, your fare was going up by x dollars.

but Roxburgh....that would be in teeny teeny tiny print :)

or they could charge for a music venue - but casino seems less invasive way of extra revenue ...even if the physical space could be invasive...
