Oh, yum! Looks good to me!

We had a great Easter, the weather was perfect for kite flying and bike riding. Still having some very nice weather this week, but we REALLY need rain!

Spent the day with Lisa and her girls yesterday, too. Went out for lunch and went to see Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax". I was very surprised at how good this movie was...sending a message about being environmentally conscious in a great way for kids to understand.

Now a day to myself...hope you all have a good day...

LOL, Janice, what you are saying reminds me of when we were on our Pacific Northwest cruise with Rick and Emmy and stayed with Carol and Bob. I ate clam chowder at least once a day and Rick was wondering if I ate it that much at home...its just not that good at home!

Mary, the clam chowder was allot better in Seattle than anything I've had in landlocked Fort Worth. I just can't stand the stuff around hear.

Hope you have a great day.

Another good thing was that if you ordered fish and chips, you had a choice of halibut, whitefish or salmon. I tried all three while we were in Astoria and Seattle and all were wonderful! It was great to have a choice.

Mary we have good friends who live in Herndon, VA and everytime I visit them I go crazy over the crab cakes. Well one time I thought I should try something else and ordered catfish...oh I hated that dish and tried everything to get rid of the flavor but nothing worked. Many years later I was coaxed into trying catfish again and it was so much better; still not a fav though.

Good morning cruisers,
Mary and Janice, I do love our beef but after the drought last year many of our stock is gone. I'm sure we are getting our beef from all over.
I do like a well fried catfish. It's definitely a southern dish. If I'm in northern Virginia or on the eastern shore it's going to be crab. I'm from Va and still have family there.
Later,
Dave

Carol,
If they put crawfish, aka mudbugs, into an omelet, I hope it is peeled. Could be a trip to the dentist . Usually I have my crawfish in etoufet or some gumbo. I'd rather not have to pinch, squeeze and suck my bugs.

We are having wonderful weather this week. Highs in the low 80s and lows in the 60's.

Have a great evening,

Oh, I liked the halibut.

When we were in Seattle, the Copper River salmon were running so we ordered some to be shipped home. Grilled it up the following weekend, it was sooo wonderful.!

We love fried catfish, other than being blackened, I think it is the only tasty way to serve it...haven't had it in awhile...we have gotten away from fried food the last few years. But hey, once wouldn't hurt, right?

I did not grow up on catfish and was VERY hesitant to try it at first. Steve grew up further south in Illinois than I did and his parents were from even further south in Illinois, so he was familiar with the dish and was really the person who got me to try it.

Janice, I remember when we all went out for dinner in San Francisco last year and had the Dungeness crab...it was delicious. The whole trip was great for me...probably my most favorite cruise ever. Food was great, scenery was spectacular. The ship was so so, but it didn't affect my vacation. We also got to spend 3 days with Pure Carol and Bob on Vancouver Island.

Carol,
If they put crawfish, aka mudbugs, into an omelet, I hope it is peeled. Could be a trip to the dentist . Usually I have my crawfish in etoufet or some gumbo. I'd rather not have to pinch, squeeze and suck my bugs.

We are having wonderful weather this week. Highs in the low 80s and lows in the 60's.

Have a great evening,
Dave
I have heard of that "method" of eating crawfish...doesn't sound like it would "a-peel" to me.

Good afternoon Cruisers,

It's very warm, 84, and partly sunny here. Storms may be here this weekend. Just hope the tornados don't make another appearance.

Mary, I have the same sentaments concerning crawfish (crayfish). As long as I don't have to peel them, it's fine by me.

Hope everyone is having a great spring day.

Dave

If you came to a Crawfish(NOT crayfish, please) Boil at my house, you would go hungry. Simple rule: No peel, no eat.(lol)

In New Orleans, there are plenty of dishes that have crawfish that you do not have to peel.

I've got a couple of favorite places in N.O...I live about 2 hours east and get over there from time to time...'tis a world unto itself!

I enjoy going to Mulate's on Julia Street in the Warehouse District. Yes, a bit on the "touristy" side but the local music is awesome and it's a great place to watch the locals dance...the food is on the pricey side for what it is but the beer is cold!

Love walking Magazine Street and visiting all of the antique stores...especially the ones with architectural salvage.

Can't miss a trip to Commander's Palace...Tory McPhail is one the best best chefs in the country, in my opinion...and pretty darned easy on the eyes too!

Also love NOLA - Emeril's restaurant in the Quarter...soooo good!

Cannot leave the Big Easy without getting a muffaletta from Central Grocery...one sandwich will easily feed 2 to 4 peeps.

Enjoy and Laissez les bontemps rouler!
