iamajulie Posted November 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2005 Interesting stats! I'm just wondering why the P&O Australian/South Pacific/SE Asia cruisers seem to end up with "hand-me-down" ships. I realise they are totally refitted etc etc but I'm a little envious of the likes of say the Star Princess that I saw docked in Sydney last year, boy is that an impressive ship, it makes the Sky and Sun look like tugboats in comparison  With cruising now becoming especially popular in Australia why can't we get the latest in ship! I found the Sun a little gaudy and very old hat in some places like the casino and the Atlantis Lounge.
Kiwi Kruzer Posted November 22, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted November 22, 2005 Interesting stats! With cruising now becoming especially popular in Australia why can't we get the latest in ship! I have been harping on about this for years. We get all the hand me downs.. Pacific Sky built 1984 Pacific Sun built 1988 Pacific Star built 1981/2 Pacific Princess built 1999 However, compared to the Northern Hemisphere we are a very small market and we can at least enjoy the luxury of having our own space. When our ships cruise into one of the Islands ,we do not have to battle with the other pax from the 6 other cruise ships that have called that day. Try doing that in Alaska or the Caribbean!!!!!!!! P&O Australia are a great company and they look after and treat their guests really well ........all they need now are new ships Oh well .....one day ....maybe........ Try Pacific/Tahitian/Star/Sapphire/Diamond Princess and you will see the difference. As for me I am off to try the Statendam at Xmas and see what Holland America line has to offer. Truebliss72 Posted November 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2005 I have met several of the childcare staff and bar staff who left the Sun the other day to go on the Star in 2 weeks time. They have to fly home for 2 weeks and than they fly them into Brisbane. They are all great!
