One of my biggest pet peeves on boards like this - the people who are convinced that since it never happened to them, then it could never happen to anyone else. Why does everyone automatically assume the OP in posts like these are either embellishing or down right lying? I also have never had anything stolen from me, and also never leave anything of value unattended, but I would never question the validity of the OP's story...

It seems like they go through the pockets and the inside of your shoes looking for your tipping cash or watches etc. the stolen clothes and shoes are never found or turned in so they are being thrown away someplace nearby. Also some purses were stolen and never found , mostly in the confusion when the shops were busy. NCL staff could care less and at customer service they wont even apologize or even offer to replace your pool towels-which are always taken as well. Have others noticed more of this on recent cruises ?
I hate thieving 😠 I had my bag stolen once while at the post office. So it can happen anywhere. I like to read my kindle on deck. But I bring one of those waterproof bags with me. So I just pop it in the bag and take it with me if I want to cool off. Or my travelling companion stays at sun bed while I get wet. 😀

You are normally withing a 5 minute walk to your cabin, I have seen women carry bags so big, I think they carry their whole house with them when they leave their cabin. Leave everything in your cabin and for that matter valuables in your safe, you don't need to carry everything with you. If you are going to the pool, your towel and maybe a book, that if it goes missing who cares.

I was on the same cruise.

The cruise next folks had to rig a bunge cord to a free tote bag offer outside there office to keep it from theft.

I was told someone made off with the previous stack.

Practically every inch of these ships are viewable by security cameras, so I'm sure NCL reviewed the footage to see the thieves in action. They could then follow the thieves on various cameras and watch exactly what they do with the stolen items, which then would have been recovered. If purses were being stolen, they certainly would have done this.

My pet peeve is when amatuer moderators say that EVERYONE said or assumed something.

Clearly the OP asked a question. Many simply answered. Others gave personal experiences. Others joked. Others wanted more facts from the OP. Etc., etc., etc.

Some find it impossible to believe there are some of us who never leave items unattended. Even ones of little or no value. Some of us would gather and take if no one was willing to watch. And by someone, I mean a family member or trusted friend, not someone I met 5 minutes ago.

Certainly we can all agree that no one can steal what is not in a vulnerable position. Some people on the other hand make it easy for crooks. And still some of those fail to take any personal Responsibility. Some have a false sense that a cruise ship is somehow safer than the world at large.

Hi Karoo,

How are you? I dont know if you'd remember me. I was there with you at that dance class. Actually I believed you had even asked her to keep an eye on it and she still slipped it in her bag and disappeared fairly quickly. And you approached her when you saw her at the buffet, right? Yeah right her son's?.... my foot!! She was indeed a thief and yes there are thieves on cruises. why would cruises would be immune from lowlifes? My wife's bag has been opened once and ruffled through. Just use common sense and be careful.

Because OP is embellishing - 'people nearby just think that someone is vacating a lounger because they pick up everything there and quickly walk of'. This is unrelated to theft. Yes, most people would think that if you pick everything up and quickly walk off you were vacating a lounger. That statement makes me think OP is a chair hog.

Which this relates to their clothes and pool towels were removed from loungers - and OP assuming that was theft related by guessing someone is taking their clothes to go through the pockets and shoes looking for money. I think most posters have left a clothing item on a lounger before. It is odd for those to be taken unless, as mentioned above, he was chair hogging and left his clothes/towel there for hours since if he took his stuff with him people would rightly assume he was vacating the lounger.

No one is saying that the purses weren't stolen.

Remember you can adjust the DSC up as high as you like simply by visiting the Customer Service Desk. You do not have to provide a reason, you do not have to love your butler.

Yeah the pool & loungers played out a long time ago. Just give me the waterfront on any away ship with drink in hand.

I agree! I don't usually carry even a camera because I already have so many pictures that are similar after many cruises. I wear my sail & Sign card on a lanyard around my neck and carry no other cash. At the end of the cruise I go around the ship and give tips to bartenders and other staff who performed above and beyond.

So, assuming you are all correct and the OP was a chair hog, where are the missing clothes/items? I would think that if someone cleared a chair hogs possessions, they would give to a crew member, drop off with the towel attendant or tossed nearby on the deck. If given or found by an attendant, why were they never given to guest relations to be picked up later?

But of course it was too dark to see anything. None of my stuff ever turned up so I'm sure the valuables were taken & the rest chucked overboard. I didn't expect to ever see any of it again, anyway.

Unfortunately theft can happen anywhere & at any time. The experience taught me some very valuable life/cruise lessons: never ever ever leave valuables unattended (even for a moment) & make good use of the safe
Did they snatch your purse right off your shoulder? If so, that was very bold of the thieves given the cameras.

That's correct - I didn't include all the details in my original post. Do you remember me also saying- 'but she looked so honest'. She took it while I was up getting the signature and my back was turned. I searched everywhere in the vicinity because I couldn't believe she just took it. I remember you guys saying 'just because someone looks honest doesn't mean they are'. You were right and I was the naive one.

At least you got your stuff back. No we were not in the lounge that night but did hear about it the next day. We also heard that two people were taken away by the authorities in Bermuda for using drugs in the pool area. uote=elainemasey61;53336863]Hi John, sorry to hear that you and others had items stolen. It always looked like a lot of fun by the pool but soo crowded. No one would notice if someone was stealing. We never found chairs that close but watched from the stadium seating above. We had better experiences. Steve left his camera in Bliss and Andrew dropped his wallet in the casino and both had been quickly turned into guest services.
I think we think that cruising is "safe" and we let our guard down more so than a city type vacation. Unfortunately theft can be anytime/anyplace. We also need to remember (and remind the kids)that bad/strange people also cruise. Did you happen to be in Bliss Saturday night with creepy guy? That guy was weird and looking for a fight! Never saw him anyplace after and some thought more security in Bliss the next night.

No, thank goodness! I had it on the booth seat next to me but on the outside instead of the inside. I've never made that mistake again! I have to carry a small bag on board because of my severe allergy emergency kit but it's a crossbody now

The Security Chief said it was too dark to see anything on the cameras. So thankfully it wasn't anything as violent as a purse snatching.

I think this is a good reminder to all. One, if you have to take something of value, make sure you are watching it at all times. Two, don't leave anything unattended that you are not willing to lose.
