After finding my suitcase wouldn't fit under the bed on Aurora, I found this which may be useful.

Weirdly Aurora seems to have the lowest beds. Never had the issue anywhere else.

What happens if they don't fit, will the cabin steward store them somewhere for you ?

Sadly no! My friend and I had this conversation when on a sector of Aurora's world cruise this year. We had to store them on the sofa in our cabin. We are on the full worldie next year so this was a major concern for us and P&O are looking into storage of cases on long cruises. Otherwise - one large case I own opens in two halves so no problem. I shall have to buy a couple of large holdalls for the rest if a solution isn't found.

Usually if cases do not fit under the bed, it is only the frame stopping them. Lift up a corner of the bed, slide case past frame and it will sit there quite happily. You do not have to lift it very high, just enough for case to get past frame.

Ours didnt fitunder the bed on Oriana a couple of weeks ago. We were lucky as we were in a mini suite so had enough room to put them out of the way...

We tried that but the whole bed frame was level and so too low.

In the single cabins on Azura the beds are fixed, with a large drawer underneath so no bed frame to lift and no room for an open suitcase. I stored mine in the wardrobe area.

On our five week USA cruise in April the cabin boy put our large cases in the hold and a number of other passengers did the same. I assuming Arcadia will have the same service on the world cruise. Having said that on Arcadia last week we did find that our large cases fitted no problem under the beds. I am hoping this is the same for all cabins in Arcadia.

Not a P&O experience but our soft sided suitcase fitted under the bed on Celebrity last October. When we retrieved it the night before heading home - the hardened plastic base area of the suitcase had shattered completely. Maybe this was due to too much lying on the bed! We got it home ok but had to abandon it thereafter as no rigidity at all for wheeled case. Get them to store it or as some one has pointed out put it beneath opened if a close fit.

Yes if your case will not slide under your bed you simply tell the cabin steward and then it's his problem. He takes the case to a big storage area below decks where they store older beds and he slides it under one of those. When they run out of "under bed space" in the store the problem passes to technical engineers. Then a team of two guys, who wear the light brown overalls get dispatched to your cabin with a small bed jack and bring the case back. They lift the bed, using the jack, until the case will fit. This sometimes leaves you with a sloping bed but this helps with oedema, so a win, win situation. Do not attempt this process with rigid cases as they will sometimes shatter in the night due to all the pressure being on one point. On more modern ships they have "bed leg extenders" which can be bolted on by the engineers but are not used where third and fourth berths are employed. These devices were introduced when the rigid Samsonite cases came in to being.

I hope you have found this helpful.

Regards John

Having taken 11 cases and 3 pieces of hand luggage on a very long cruise, many of our cases fitted under the bed but all the others were taken away by the cabin steward and stored elsewhere by them.

Yes on the Aurora World this year our steward was happy to take away the surplus luggage and store it. I just kept a smaller case under the bed to store souvenirs bought en route. They aren't usually so keen to take luggage on shorter cruises though.

Hi
We are going on an Adonia flycruise in the New Year and are restricted to one piece of luggage each at 23kg. I therefore need to take our biggest suitcases but have been worrying about the underbed clearance and possibly being stuck with trying to store the cases elsewhere in the limited space of a balcony cabin. Would you be kind enough to let me know the depth in inches or cm of the largest case you were able to get under the bed on Adonia -and what kind of cabin you were in

Thanks
