Mahogany Bay vs Tabyana Beach

It will be our first time here, looking for a relaxing beach day with a little snorkeling on our own. As a first-timer is Mahogany Bay good enough or should we spend the $$$ for a Tabyana Beach excursion through Carnival?

Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year, we had booked to go to Tabyana with the Princess ship excursion (likely the same as Carnival), but it rained fairly heavily the day we arrived in Roatan, and so our excursion was cancelled.

We were not afraid of a little tropical rain, so we headed to Mahogany Bay for a few hours (and did get a break int he weather for an hour or so), and brought our snorkel gear with us. It was weak snorkeling at best. Visibility is not great and there are very few fish in the main beach area waters. If you swim around the pier, there are some rocks and a few fish, but overall, it is not a place to snorkel. We will head back to Roatan in 2018 and once again, we will book the Tabyana excusion and hope for some better snorkel time.
