It will be on your account but if you check your account at the kiosk you may not see it. As you spend money it gets subtracted from your credit and it shows up as a credit on the kiosk but it doesn't show the total of your credit (this was the way it was on Glory and Pride recently). I'm sure that there is an accounting term for this method but I don't know what it is.

Thanks, there is nothing better than stopping off at the drama bar for a fruity drink w/ umbrella and knowing that it is already paid for.:D

Don't think we will have a problem spending our cruise cash, it was not an excessive amount-just enough for the not to worries, I got this, sort of thing. it is a 7 day cruise.

but are they going to bill my cruise cash first, and then my card on file, or try that card on file first.

They don't start billing your card until your cruise cash runs out

Is the cruise cash an automatic add when you get your card, or do you have to go to guest services to have it added?

Just off Glory last week. We had the following:

$500 Cruise Cash

$200 Cruise Cash - Bar

$50 OBC

$6.40 refundable credits

When I checked the hub app after boarding, I could see the cruise cash was applied immediately, along with the $50 OBC and the credits. The available balance on our account for most if the cruise was $56.40.

We never exceeded our cruise cash allotment on board and had a final balance of $13 and change. Anything over $10 balance, Carnival will mail you a check unless you get it from the kiosk. Anything $10 and less is typically donated to St. Judes children's hospitals.

I was questioned at check-in about having a "cash" account. Maybe a lot of people don't do this? I explained we already had our budgeted amount pre-loaded as cruise cash, so we were good to go.

Actually, the kiosk was better in regards to the hub app as it broke down how much was left in each category of cruise cash (bar vs. general). The hub app (at this time) does not do this.

First time cruiser here and I’m really trying to understand the cruise cash concept. I like the idea for budgeting purposes, but it was my understanding it’s a use or lose. Will Carnival mail you a check if you have a balance over $10 remaining on your card? Thanks

It is indeed use or lose; however, if you have anything left near the end of the cruise you can pull the money off the S&S card at a slot machine in the casino & then cash out the "players bank" with the casino cashier. I spend a lot of time in the casino & never had a problem using my cruise cash (lol). You may need to play the slot for a few bucks before cashing it out, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Cruise Cash is non-refundable and non-transferable. SO if each person on the booking is doing their own financials for on board spending make sure when you purchase Cruise Cash you designate whom that funding is for otherwise it is shared by all in the cabin.

The example below (see notations in red) did not expand on the the reasons why they received cash (or a check) back

Just off Glory last week. We had the following:

$500 Cruise Cash - non-refundable but usable anywhere on the ship

$200 Cruise Cash - Bar - non-refundable usable only for beverage purchases

$50 OBC - can be refundable or non-refundable depends on the reason for receiving

$6.40 refundable credits - most likely an adjustment on port fees that all passengers received

When I checked the hub app after boarding, I could see the cruise cash was applied immediately, along with the $50 OBC and the credits. The available balance on our account for most if the cruise was $56.40. - this indicates the $50 OBC is refundable as well as the probable fee adjustment.

- with the online check-in you must either provide a credit/debit card number or indicate you will open a cash account once at the terminal or on board. A "cash" account is any account funded by means other than a credit/debit card

Most likely in the example they exhausted all of their non-refundable credits and a portion of the refundable ones leaving them with their $13.

The order that on board purchases will be deducted from the S&S account funds are

1) Non-refundable OBC and cruise cash

2) Refundable OBC and Carnival Gift Cards

3) Cash and cash equivalents like Traveler's Cheques

4) Credit/debit cards on file

Refundable OBC usually comes from price reductions under ES bookings or as a non-restricted promo direct from Carnival. Non-refundable OBC is usually from restricted use OBC offers (like $50 towards excursion purchases), TA offered OBC, and stock holder benefits.

If I want to use gift cards to purchase cruise cash to cover tips, could I just make a single cruise cash purchase for everyone in the cabin, or do I have to make separate cruise cash purchases for each person?

We also have OBC for the cabin. How does that work in figuring out how much cruise cash to get per person?

With cheers and pre-paid excursions, our on board purchases will be close to $0, except for tips. I'd prefer to get the cruise cash as opposed to having to apply the gift cards to my account after boarding.

As long as you or your travel professional call Carnival at least 48 hours prior to your Sail Date. Prepaying the gratuities is an all or nothing option per cabin. Also the gift cards can b applied, and split according to your wishes at the Guest Services.

As to which way is best to purchase cruise cash to cover the auto-gratuities if you prefer to wait till on the cruise to have them assessed, will all depend on how you set up the primary and secondary passengers' S&S account. If the primary or secondary passenger will have control of a master folio, in others words all those in the same cabin are allowed to charge off a single account, the a single purchase applied to that one person will work.

If each person will be handling their own funding of their individual S&S account, you can still make a single cruise cash purchase, but you just click off each name as the designated gift recipient. They will then split the amount purchased as evenly as possible.

If wishing to gift cruise cash at various amounts to individuals in the same cabin separate purchases for the specific amount must be put in the cart, and designated individually, but can be done in one transaction.

Thanks.

It seems I can't pre-pay gratuities, as I want to apply my $200+ in OBC towards them.

We have two cabins. When I did the online check in, I set it up so everything gets charged to the same person's credit card. Does this mean I can put all the cruise cash on the one account, or do I need to purchase the cruise cash for someone in each cabin?

OBC is different than Carnival GCs. Any Carnival GC is good for any purchase of Carnival goods, services, or cruise payments, while OBC is granted in your booking but does not actual become a funding source until you have boarded. Cruise Cash is the same since you are essentially purchasing non-refundable OBC. Cruise Cash and OBC can not be spent until you are actively on board.

Even though you are using a master account, if you have more than one cabin then I would purchase cruise cash for each cabin and have it evenly distributed.

So, let's say tips were $75 per person, and I have $50 OBC. If I get $100 in cruise cash, that should result in a $0 balance at the end.

But, it seems it would depend on how they deduct the OBC.

Assuming I split the $100 cruise cash evenly between Cruisers A and B, if they:

Use the $50 OBC for cruiser A's tips

Then use $25 of cruiser A's cruise cash for tips

Then use all $50 of cruiser B's cruise cash for tips

The ending balance would be:

Cruiser A would still have $25 of cruise cash left

Cruiser B would still owe $25

Booking bonus OBC (that's part of a Carnival promo) is generally split between the first 2 passengers listed on the booking. Price adjustment OBC is sometimes split between all passengers in a cabin due the credits, but if not it's split between the first 2 listed to the cabin.

Many times if OBC is allotted to a guest that you as the primary purchaser of the booking paid for (ie. a minor), prior to cruising you can get the full amount credit to your folio only. You need to contact either your TA, PVP, or the customer service # on your booking confirmation no later than 7 days and no sooner than final payment to have the OBC split or consolidated to your satisfaction.

Cruise cash is all on how you choose it to be split when you initially make the purchase of it. If you fail to choose individual recipients then they split the amount across the whole cabin.

So in part the scenario you presented could be true, but unlikely without direct intervention. One way to avoid over/under funding of on board accounts is if you are comfortable financing a master on board account then let everyone in the cabin (or booking) have charging privileges. As the account holder you can set a cruise long

spending limit on any individual folio, but common charges like the auto-gratuity would come out of the account not affecting the spending limit.
