Man, seriously...since I started to read your review I was late for work and then later late for gym...if I could take my tablet to read inside my shower I would.

Do I need to say I loved your review? Nah..

Ok, you helped a lot, because on 3rd June I'll be on this beautiful ship for the first time an can't wait. I'll be travelling from Brazil 2 days before.

Any chance to find you in the same cruise?

Pretty please.

I lmao with your comments.

Bravo.

Actually it's the main pool. Spice doesn't have a pool. And the "tables" are blocks of teak wood essentially and are used as seats with feet in water.

I'll be reuniting with the DBH on July 22... can't wait!

I don't mean to be a "home"wrecker, but DBH is totally going to cheat on you at the end of June. Sorry to be the one to have to tell you. Don't worry though, it'll only be a 7 day affair.

Doug,

I have to say that your review had a huge impact on our cruise on the Escape. We were on the 2/18-2/25 sailing, and we continuously referred to terms you coined in your review. One in particular that we used daily was the "DWI Checkpoint". We never referred to the central glass staircase as an official location, rather our whole group would say something like "let's take the DWI checkpoint to deck 8", or "we'll meet at the bottom of the DWI checkpoint for the comedy show".

Still makes me smile!

We went to see him on the Dawn after your 11/27 review. He was surprised when I told him he was famous on the internet.

Oh Doug, what can I save that everyone else has already said. Your brilliant, witty, and someone everybody wants to hang with. We will be heading out on the Escape out of NYC April of 2018, yes its more than a year away. But we are hooked.

Thank you so much for the get Live review!

I've been reading that I "have to read TheDougOuts reviews" and now that I finally did, I realize that I need to cruise on the Escape. We are booked on Breakaway for December 15, 2017 so I'm thinking Escape January 2019. It seems like such a long time away, but reading reviews like this one make it go so much faster.

Maybe my next review will be a live review a la TheDougOut. :D Although I don't think I could hold a candle to his reviews.

Cheers!!!

Doug, all I can say is legendary! I just marathon read all 61 pages. Funny though it took me until page 59 to realize you took this cruise in 2016! Thanks for such an excellent review. New to this forum and our Escape in August will be only my 3rd cruise. Can't wait, we splurged and went Haven, will write some details after our trip, but I am sure I don't have the same way with words. Husband is drooling over beer list! Thanks again for all the great detail and awesome pictures. Food porn was fantastic, and now committed more than ever to diet before cruise starts so I have some room to splurge.

Thanks also for whomever bumped this thread I may have missed such a good read otherwise!

I love it! Buy one for me and leave it on the bar.

I've really had a tough time adjusting back to "normal" life, and as such I'm incredibly jealous that you all have this trip in front of you. The Escape was such a great fit for me, and I really need to figure out how to pay her another visit in the near future.

I'm seriously considering jumping off the Dawn and returning to the Escape this fall. I know the Dawn is getting some version of O'Sheehans while in dry dock, replacing the Blue Lagoon. Why not add that double-wide cooler of craft bottles & cans while you're at it? Please, NCL?!?

Safe travels to everyone!

After reading this Great review, I did just that. I canceled my Dawn 14 cruise out of Boston next Fall and booked the 14 day Southern Caribbean cruise on the Escape out of NYC January 2019. It is a long ways off, but the deal for a mini suite, plus the dining and drinking package AND this review convinced me to rebook.

Has anyone else ever attempted to walk back to their stateroom at night, only to see all the carpet fish swimming in the opposite direction and feel like you're missing out on something?

Doug, Let me just say thanks for this hall of fame review. Cruising was very much a bitter sweet thing for us. My Mom & stepdad went on about 25 cruises during their 35 yrs together. We lost my stepdad in the summer of 2012. The next March my mom wanted to introduce our entire family to their passion. So a group of 11 of us did a 7 day on Carnival Freedom western route. While we had a great time, it just didn't feel like our thing. Sadly we lost Mom in Sept of 2014. She was a cruise critic junkie, took me a while to come back to these boards and lurk around.

Stumbled on your review around Christmas of 16 and was hooked, I probably read it 2 or 3 times, insisted my wife read it and then my brother. Wife read through it and was just amazed in the different experience "wandering" around the ship vicariously through your report.

After debating and planning we found that the May 6-13 Escape would be our family adventure this year. While originally my brother and his family were gonna come along some scheduling and financial conflicts happened and they were unable to join us. It ended up being just me and the wife and our 17 & 7 yr old girls. Although the weather in St. Thomas & Tortola didn't turn out all that well, it was indeed an amazing trip that will never be forgotten. Was able to catch a few sunrises & sunsets from our balcony, just me enjoying the serenity of the open ocean and really feeling my mom their with me.

Sorry for this lengthy post, I left you a beer sitting on the counter at "home" a couple of nights. Thanks again, It turns out Cruising IS our thing as well. Booked the Escape again for spring break next year!

Wow - thank you so much for sharing your story. I've always been an emotional creature, savoring those moments when you feel the most alive; when you can appreciate all that has come before, and all that will follow once you're gone. Those moments you had on the balcony... so full of "life".

I'm returning to the escape in 66 days, and fully intend to return the favor.
