All-Inclusive on the Sun - how is it going?

When you say "water" do you mean bottled? My understanding is that there is "tap" water available at no additional charge.

I was just on the Sky to Cuba and the all inclusive was awesome. Only water and Gatorade not included (unless you are on a CAS comp in the casino you can get free water. Even GSC was included with free drinks

Bar menu from May 7 Cuba cruise

I see some of the items have prices and some don't, why is this? I know the drinks on the all inclusive only include up to $15.00 but many don't have a price listed at all. Are those over the limit?

My daughter ordered a gin and tonic with Hendrix and was charged an up charge. Most of the good wines have an upcharge. If there is an amount on menu that is the upcharge from free that is! I recommend the atrium bar and windjammers for best drinks. The pool bar and great outdoors bar use smaller plastic cups for non frozen premixed drinks. Glad I brought disposable straws. Service varies but tips seem to be appreciated!

Really? Say it ain't so! So according to the menus, there's an upcharge for a Moscow Mule? And Patron? Belvedere?

Wow, that's disappointing. I'm glad it's a cheap cruise.

If it has a price, it isn't free. The "All Inclusive" thing on the Sky and Sun isn't the same thing as the Ultimate Beverage Package on other ships. There is no $15.00 limit, you just don't pay for anything that doesn't have a price on the menu.

For the most part, that means you'll pay for "top shelf" liquors (they literally put them on the top shelf in most of the bars) and glasses of wine beyond house wine. The selection of "top shelf" liquors is a little weird -- Grey Goose is top shelf, Tito's Handmade, which is much more expensive here in Florida, is not, so any vodka drink with Tito's is free, the exact same thing with Grey Goose is going to cost you $5 or so.

No, the drinks on the first page have prices because they all come in "souvenir glasses" -- if you order a Rebellious Fish or Moscow Mule and tell them you don't want the glass, it's free.

Some great info guys! Appreciate the clarity on the souvenir glasses and the interesting differences in what is/not “top shelf”. How bad is the “house” tequila they use in the margaritas? Thanks so much! If you’re still on the ship, hope you’re having a great time!

"Mix" as in they serve pre-mixed drinks?

Sorry, yes that's what I mean. Sky and Sun have lots of pre-mixed drinks in big jugs that they pour and hand to you....

You have to ask for the drink made to order. Usually I ask what the liquor is in the mix (what kind) and ask for something different.

Thanks for the advice...I will definitely ask for a drink to order. Is that typical of a NCL cruise, or unique to Sky and Sun?

On most of the ships that I've been on, they tend to premix certain drinks (those that are eventually "Drink of the Day", we've gotten to the point at home where we cite a drink of the day, here at home :D) but you can ask for yours fresh.

We just booked a quick getaway --Cuba

Got the "free drinks package"

We are new to NCL (regularly cruise others)

When I go to the website--the drink packages are confusing. Am I understanding that bottled water is NOT included? Really?? Do I need to pay for a case of water bottles sent to the room??

?

If you are going on a 4-day Cuba itinerary, there is no drink package. Ignore everything on MyNCL about it. As others mentioned above, most drinks are included (free) unless it has a menu price. My husband, sister, and BIL were just on the Sun, and we paid nothing for alcohol except one night when my husband wanted a Maker's Mark OTR. Between the four of us we had all the fun frozen drinks (mango meltdown, pina colada, Miami vice, bushwhacker, etc). My husband and BIL drank their fill of Bud Light and Heineken (this is NOT a craft beer ship, lol). My sister enjoyed a variety of margaritas and mojitos. Plenty of variety without spending an additional dime (other than throwing some love towards the bartenders - they DO appreciate it :D).

You do have to pay for water and specialty coffee (which you also have to with the regular beverage package that I just told you to ignore :p). We usually had a double espresso every afternoon and I ordered 6 liters of water for my room ahead of time - while it was more than I would pay at home, I didn't think it was too excessive overall. You can drink the ship's water - I wanted the water bottles for Cuba.

I’ve never been on NCL before and just trying to understand the drinks on NCL Sun. So are you able to pay cash for gratitues or do they automatically charge you for them? I know I paid the “Pre-Paid Service Charges” up front and just trying to understand how this works.

$19.99 daily service charge total per person. Includes bar gratuities. IMO that is a measly amount if you drink a lot, which was evident as the bartenders got so excited when I would tip $1 cash per drink, because no one else was tipping them. It was actually quite sad. I've never experienced such a cheap "clientele" on other cruise lines.

That being said, tip extra cash for great service. For $1 you'll be treated like a king on that ship.

Thanks for the infor

That is sad that tipping above and beyond was so rare on the NCL Sun.

We'll do our part to spread the $ love

It was a 3 day cruise...doesn't exactly attract the highest quality of people. If you're on the 4 day Cuba cruise, it will definitely be less trashy.

;p;p;p;p

Lets hope so.

Saw a video someone posted about brawling on an NCL ship YIKES!

We usually sail 7 nights--and enjoy longer ones when schedules permit

I suppose the short "booze cruise" gets it name for a reason

Fingers crossed the sailing is fun and uneventful

You’re going to have a great time. You’re on a mon - fri sailing. Doesn’t attract the party crowd. A fri - mon sailing is a completely different scene.

Enjoy!

WOW! You should really rethink how you stereotype certain crowds, people, circumstances, etc. I was on a 3 nighter with my mother back in June. Crowd was extremely classy...myself included.
