What I Will Miss About Carnival

There are many threads devoted to why Carnival has become a bad choice any 3, 5, 10 , 20 cruises. Some people sit around and wait for the boom or ax to drop, others keep sailing along with each new booking. Unless there is a great deal on Princess for Alaska, I can safely say I am done with Princess for awhile. Other lines, ships, and vacations to try. I am looking at NCL next. ,

We've decided that we're in no hurry to try Princess, maybe for different reasons than you, but not to say that it isn't just right for someone else. RCL does Alaska for cheap, but Princess does have great accommodations on their tours into Denali/Fairbanks. NCL should be fun, I would just be leery of the downgraded food unless you are cool with paying for specialty restaurants.

We did Carnival going back to 92 then life and kids in college. Started back up again about 8 years ago. By then Carnival was sliding. Zero crowd control and needed a mellower cruise. We both had crazy paced jobs and looked to relax, enjoy and escape. I don't need constant sales announcements and pool contests. I think Princess is a little more refined, quieter with better shows and some foods. I owned a restaurant and enjoy the pizza on Princess. Some people enjoy 24/7 crazy. I live in a quiet community and we travel for new places. We will probably be doing a Panama Canal this Fall. Boring to some but on the bucket list. If I feel the need to twerk, maybe on our balcony.

The purpose of starting this thread is showing that although Carnival was not as great as my previous sailings, this one was fun and memorable. If these pics represent a bad cruise, then I take good times to a new level.

Given the opportunity, I don't wish to cruise every year and definitely not on the same line every time. I love Carnival for the fun, Princess for the elegance, and RCL for the ingenuity in design.

I love how people complain about people smoking on balconies and the bad smell. As someone who enjoys a cigar after dinner, Carnival should build a dedicated Cigar bar where people can enjoy a stogie/cig and not allow smoking on balconies.

Princess and NCL have dedicated cigar bars.

That's my only real problem with Carnival. That and they don't enforce the dress code very well in the MDR.

Wrong thread, this is not a complaint thread:D:)

Thanks for the times

That you've given me

The memories are all on my drive

And now that we've come

To the end of our cruise

There's something

I must share in pics

Can't stand the smell of smoke. That being said, I enjoy the smell of a fine cigar and/or pipe. The cruise lines should invest in a smoking lounge with the appropriate ventilation system. The old jazz club but with a great filtration system.

Are you enjoying this thread and the fun times as I move away? When cruising doesn't answer your vacation needs, move to land resorts. In Mexico you can get a good Cuban cigar. Yes, I have a pic somewhere :D

This makes sense why you prefer Princess. In my case, I'm an Ebayer, and while I am always busy doing something, I probably get too much quiet time! Our October 7 day Carnival cruise was not the party atmosphere that you might see during Spring Break on a 3 day cruise, but it's a nice escape being around everyone having fun! If I owned a restaurant, maybe I would want the opposite.

I know by Day 5 on Princess I will be singing Carnival rescue me. However, it's my 20th anniversary and therefore seeking a different kind of escape

You know that I'm going to be waiting for your return from the Royal Princess and looking for feedback! I wish that MY countdown clock said 29 days!! :o

I am really excited because it's new and different. Carnival is fun but I did not want it for my anniversary. I am on this massive attempt to take off enough pounds to get into a dress, I might have no right trying to fit in:D

Thanks for the pics...you reminded me of what I miss about cruising period. Unfortunately it will be a while for me to cruise on any line as we spent our cruise dollars to send my parents on an anniversary cruise but hopefully they will have a great time :)

Hear Hear!

I am already saying to my DH let's do an all inclusive resort for our next anniversary, so we can both enjoy that Cuban cigar. I like laugh out silly fun type vacations.

I am turning 50, I need to settle down.

As an owner/operator of an entity, it's 24/7/365 during fledgling period. Didn't have a day off in 4 years. Best thing, owning my own business. 2ns best thing, selling it. I could stay in a suite for a week easily and not come out. The public has changed. Hard to explain but Carnival has a different "feel" these days.

Spend some time on the Princess board. The Royal is getting very mixed reviews from the loyalists. It is a gorgeous ship no doubt.

I love mixed reviews. I am not seeking perfection. I need a beautiful ship, a more laid back vibe to keep my overactive butt in check, and quiet moments to remind us that we made it so far. Twenty years of marriage, 19 years survivor of double open heart surgeries and dh 16 years survivor of prostate cancer. We are 49+ and 55.

We could have done this at home because our vacation is an extension of our daily lives. We live every day to the fullest. Cancer and heart ailments give you an interesting perspective on living.

Change can be good

I think Princess can be really good for couples - The Love Boat

More dressed up - so enjoy your Anniversary

I have found more and more that I personally cruise for the entertainment

I don't drink a whole lot, don't gamble, don't do athletic stuff...but I love the shows, and love lots of bands, groups, dancing etc

I would enjoy the comedy on Carnival if I could get seats easily LOL

I really disliked the Playlist shows - just don't want to see them again,

and the Hasbro? I walked out really quick - not my idea of nighttime entertainment sorry. I don't watch game shows on tv why would I want to watch them on a ship? Plus talk about "product placement"..what next? Infomercials for Ginsu knives??

I love MSC which only has one - fabulous- ship in the US but is big in Europe - just the biggest best shows and tons of live music all night in different venues, even dueling piano guys - so much fun

NCL is nice too - great shows on Pearl , lots of groups - I did find that for groups freestyle is a pain but it might be fun for you and your family

I still want to try Allure/Oasis/Epic too - and the new ones

Carnival? I won't say never - I might want a more port intensive ship, southern, panama canal...or even Europe for a good price - where I would be so busy in the day that the entertainment won't matter as much.

A cruise is what you make of it. I've cruised all of the major brands multiple times and every one offered everything that I expected. Casino, nightlife, shows etc. Sometimes the night life depends on the cruise. 15 day Hawaii cruises attract a lot of seniors so the clubs aren't packed at midnight but the 7 day or less to the caribbean is filled with party and beach people. What will you miss? The Carnival logo and the dumb hairy chest contest.

This cruise did not meet my all expectations. However, along with others we have voiced how complaints already. Looking back, this cruise was more fun than my previous ones. I guess I will also miss the hairy chest contest because I love to see people having fun and doing things they probably wouldn't do at home.

At my age I am becoming my worse enemy, so maybe it's time to graduate to lines where sitting and relaxing is the order of the day. My mother and cardiologist will thank me. Carnival fun shall be missed.

I wouldn't listen to sour grapes type comments, unless the "hairy chest contest" is plastered on the front of Carnival's webpage, and what everyone is raving about. You aren't forced to watch it, there's always plenty of other things to do, I don't even remember that announcement.

Now when someone mention's Carnival's real strengths, and says they can do without, they're probably coming from a more sincere comparison. For instance, I can live without Princess' decor, and it's beautiful. I can live without those smallish staterooms, that's sour grapes.

You obviously have a fun loving personality, and that's not going to change just because you are 50. You won't be happy getting all subdued. I wouldn't switch lines just to be "more mature", unless it is tempting to overdo it drinking, having smart fun is not a bad goal ;)
