Balcony for Norway Cruise?

Recommended Posts

I think a balcony in Norway is more desirable than in most places! As you sail into a fjord early in the morning, you can sit out with your morning tea or coffee admiring the scenery. As you sail out at night, you can pop in and out while changing for dinner. A Norway cruise is all about the scenery. You probably won’t want to dash up on deck in your pyjamas to see it!

There is a lot more scenery to see in Norway than in virtually every other cruise you will go on, partly because many of the ports are three or four hours' sail inland and there are quite a number of passages between islands too, and partly because (assuming you plan to go in summer) there are so many more hours of daylight.

On the downside, it might not be so warm as most cruises. But even then, you can make a positive that it enables you to nip outside for five minutes, look around, and nip back in to warm up.

Be aware that for most of the time, the scenery is on both sides. In the fjords, you go in and out the same way, so what you miss going in you see coming out, but you'll want to spend time on deck to get the full grandeur of the fjords.

Is there a huge difference between cabin prices for balconies/windows? It can get very chilly and very wet which could make the balcony a waste of money - also what time of the year? We went in August one year and it poured down every day........but it can also be beautiful So it's tricky to advise. Certainly make sure you have at least a large window !

If you can afford it, I would absolutely book a cabin with a balcony. We cruised in late August and loved sitting out on our balcony and watching the scenery as we siled among the fjords. It was absolutely gorgeous. For arrivals in the morning it was nice to be able to watch the scenery from our own private balcony and not have to get dressed to go up on deck.

Yes I agree with posters. This is the cruise you want a balcony. Tons of scenery. Yes public areas on the top deck would be the best for scenery, but there is hours of scenery and it was so nice to watch from balcony, etc. Keep in mind the most scenic days are the trips into the long Fjords, such as the sail in to Flam. That is 3 hours or more. Nice to view from your cabin.
