We would love to hike to the top of Pulpit Rock! But we are unable to find a tour for this (ship or private)... Several CC members have posted reviews of hiking it though! Can anyone please share who to contact to set this up? TIA for any help/suggestions!!

We're doing this on our stop at Stavanger on the Pacific Princess in July. I would love to do it on my own, but we are in port 9 hours and the independent tour operators want you to have 10 hours. So we are going on a ship's tour, since it's the only way.

What hours are you in port? There's plenty of infrastructure for going on your own, since that's what most tourists do. It just depends on whether the ferry and bus timings work out with the schedule of your port call.

Our ship is scheduled to be there from 11 AM to 6 PM. Will this give us time to travel there hike up it and still travel back?

Here is the schedule for 2018:

http://fjords.tide.no/upload/pdf/2018/WEBRuter_Preikestolen_2018.pdf

They recommend 4 hours for the hike itself.

If you caught the 11:20 ferry, you'd get to the trailhead at 12:25. Allowing 4 hours for the hike, you could catch the 16:40 bus back, arriving at the ferry terminal at 17:45. While you could make it from the ferry to the central pier in 15 minutes, that's cutting it ridiculously close. I would only consider it if you have a plan in place to catch up with the ship at the next port.

PulpitRock (Preikestolen) is definitely worth seeing. The hike is wonderful butit is important to get the timing accurate. In order to get there, youhave to take a ferry and then a bus, and the same on the return. Youshould plan approximately 4 to 41/2 hours to do the hike. You should haveat least 8 hours in port, more is better. The best way to plan for thistrip is to contact the local tourist office or a local guide company to makearrangements so that you can be sure to get there and back safely. It iseasier to have someone who knows all the schedules doing this for you, and a localwho knows the hike. It is very tricky to figure this out on your own.

Sometimes the cruises are in port long enough to hike pulpit rock, sometimes they aren't. But do bear in mind that on a cruise you can easily have a poor weather day in Norway, which will greatly affect your views from Pulpit Rock.
