Thanks buggins. Hmmm, and NCL owns O now?

I know they don't manage O but, damn that was a really bad move on their side.

Actually it is NCLH that owns NCL, Oceania, and Regent and Presidents of all three lines report to the CEO/President of NCLH so your comments may be a bit in error.

Usually it is the other way around. Not finished in time. Construction workers on board after the dry dock to finish what they should have during the two weeks.

O can get a head start on the demolition of the ship while passengers are on board cruising like another cruise ship did recently :o

I can't remember what ship that was but I wanted to look it up this morning. Talking about POed passengers...

O has done that in the past ..it did not go over well with O passengers either

Bathrooms need reconfiguring. They are too small, the curtain vs shower door disappointing and there is not space to hang towels when robes are on the doors. Reaching behind the commode to use those tiny racks was less than ideal.

Any way you cut FDR runs the whole show and all things go thru him. And he does a pretty dam good job.

#1...larger shower and bathroom with shower door. No excuse for those dreadful little bathrooms on such a nice ship.

Totally agree with #1!!! They may not be able to make the shower or bathroom larger, but at least replace the hideous shower curtain with glass.

Larger cabins and bathrooms. R ships have the worst bathrooms. My spouse refuses to sail on them. If we were to book R again, it will only be suites. The regular cabins are too small. The Marina and Riviera are so much better. The regular veranda cabins are roomy. Their bathrooms are huge.

Another voice heard as to the reason that we need new builds. I will not sail on the R ships unless there is no other way to get where we want to go. Will look at Viking before we book an R ship. Too bad as we love Oceania but will not be taken advantage of. :(:(:(

After doing the RTW 2019 cruise on Insignia, if I sail Oceania again it will likely only be on Marina or Riviera so I won't have to book a PH suite.

Wow - not a lot of love for the R ships in some of these recent posts. We have sailed four times on the R ships for a total of about 70 days vs none on the O ships :(.

We (obviously) love the R ships and the intimate nature of cruising on them but I agree with the comments on bathroom size, cabin design and the lack of use the casino area gets.

I think an innovation they could try is putting some pull out awnings on the pool deck to expand the quantity of shaded area available and perhaps ditch some of the double loungers up there which look classy but are very seldom used.

Speaking of little used, the “spa” deck in front of the gym is almost always empty and could be utilised either as an addition to the gym area in the mornings (for yoga classes perhaps) or repurposed as a generally accessible indoor pool area.

I wonder if anyone reading this will recall the period, just before the introduction of the Marina, when literally 100% of Oceanias' clientele were up in arms about her larger dimensions?

I remember because I was one of them. :o

At the time Mr. Del Rio's response was that "Everybody ALWAYS builds larger".

Regardless, Post after Post after Post proclaimed that the R ships were perfect as they were and that nobody needed bathrooms which were any larger or any stinking extra Specialty restaurants.

Now that those things are here, it appears that they have become essential.

Seems that Del Rio knew whereof he spoke.

Giving credit where it is due is good for the Soul :halo:

currently on Nautica, and loving the R ship.... O size are not as cozy and I don't like the increased passenger numbers.

I would love a redo in the bathrooms. The size doesn't bother me, but I just hate shower curtains. Don't have them at home, and think they are a repository for mold and mildew.

although Nautica is spotless and extremely well-maintained I think the R decor needs updating....just my opinion..

We just boarded the Sirena and one of the first things I did when we got to our A cabin was to check out the shower. Yes, it's small but not that small. Just for reference I'm 5'10" and weigh 218 (before the cruise). Who knows what I'll weigh afterwards. :D But there appears to be ample space for me to take a shower.

However, as others have mentioned a glass door rather than a shower curtain would be preferable. But then again I don't have to bend down to shave my legs. The shower curtain may be more advantageous option if I did.

Just spent 30 days on the Regatta after 3 cruises on the larger ships. Therefore, I do have a few reiterations and suggestions:

1. TV position in PH suites is dangerous!!! Reposition any other place in the room.

2. NO electricity is available in the bathroom, therefore no nightlight. I would recommend some kind of light in the restroom for going up and down the step. Shaving outlet would be helpful as well.

3. The tub in the PH suites is beyond dangerous. Replace immediately. Shelves or storage needed for bathroom.

4. Silly, but...... the magnifying mirrors way in the corner at the desk are of no use!

5. Barista was fine in the bar, but I was very disappointed to see that the cookies and snacks at the counter were prepackaged. Quality seems to be slipping.

6. Menus are repeated every 2 weeks and are uncreative in main dining room. They have been exactly the same on the last 3 cruises.

7. Remove laptop computers in the rooms. It's in the way, old, and the first thing we put under the bed.

8. Make sure all doors are clean!!!

9. Make sure all thermostats work. Temperature modulation has been poor.

We just got off a Regatta cruise. There is an outlet in the bathroom - on the wall hair dryer. Ours had a night light plugged into it.

some of us use laptops to curate photos, to photoshop them, and to write blogs and posts.

We always travel with 2 since we don't share well.

remove the nightlight from the bedroom area and plug it into the wall hair dryer in the bathroom as has been stated. If it doesn't work mention it to your room attendant and an electrician will make it work.

I can get pretty creative with the various food offerings even after several weeks/months on board, but then again that's why we dine in Terrace most of the time. Portion control and design my dinner!!!

In our Sirena veranda cabin there is just a padded stool which acts as a chair at the desk. It would be nice if there was a real chair with a back as is the case on the Riviera. I can’t speak to the “desk chairs” in the veranda cabins on the other R and O ships as we have only traveled on these 2 so far, but this seems like an easy fix.

Just returned from a river cruise on a newer AMA Waterways ship, and they have really optimized the use of space. Though the cabin overall was smaller, the bath - and the shower in particular - were much more comfortable than on R ships, with glass shower doors. I have vowed never again to sail an R ship in our usual Concierge veranda. I will only book if I can afford a PH because of the bath limitations.

On AMA, the TV is a big Mac screen, with a small keyboard and mouse. Used for regular video stuff, but also allows online access. Really a great feature - Oceania should take note.

Last time on Sirena, I requested a vertical file box - which I remembered from previous cruises. I was told that they were only available for PH and suites. What a dumb restriction! All cabins should have a vertical file box to allow for storage/organization of the mass of paper produced during a cruise. I think I recall there was space on the side of the desk where a vertical file might be mounted, which would be even better than the desktop version.

And finally - NO TUSCAN STEAK. It combined the worst of Polo and Toscana. Just choose one and go with it. I did like the addition of Red Ginger on Sirena, even though I don't much like Red Ginger on Riviera/Marina.

Currently sailing on Nautica through the Suez Canal--so let's add this to the list of "pretty please, may we have...."

a place at the bow (pointy end) that has no slanted glass which impedes taking photos.

They can put all the safety railings in place which we can shoot over, but the slant of the glass makes it extremely difficult not to get glare, etc.

I did find a spot on the port railing on 11 in which I could lean over and shoot when the canal turned so i could get a pano shot.

We also have just returned from a river cruise where our small bathroom had a glass door instead of a curtain-I love Nautica and the more intimate size but a glass shower door would be nice. Incidentally, on our Iberian cruise on Nautica last fall, the casino was used (even by my DH) which was not the case on our Marina cruise. It must depend on the mix on a particular cruise. I think DH went in because there were actually more people there. The current Nautica cruise sounds wonderful and the reporting is terrific.

I'm fairly sure that we just heard that they are ripping the R ships down to the studs, one by one, starting with Insignia.

Here is all the information you need and more about NCLH and the three brands including the future.

They laid it all out in the investor conference a couple weeks ago. $100m in drydock for the 4 ships. Not quite down to the studs but a good chuck of money per ship.

227 powerpoint slides - Oceana Fleet enhancement are slide 144-145
