Whale watching excursions

Alaska, JNU-700, even if you aren't a photographer and even if there's nothing more you could possibly learn about photography. If it's full, then JNU-705; same company, 99% as good as -700.

What if the OP is asking about Hawaii? Or the Caribbean?

There are several good private excursion companies in Juneau that will give you a smaller boat than Princess--get you closer to the whales (there is a legal limit to how close you can get and operators can be fined). If you are lucky, you'll also see whales from the cruise ship.

Funny: Hubs and I rarely book princess excursions anymore. Play it by ear and see how it goes.

Once during a CA coastal, we decided to go to the museum, then noticed the whale watching tours and decided to book. While waiting for the HUNDREDS of princess pax disembarking, I checked the price through princess. OH BOY, was I amazed at the markup. Through princess, $129 per person, directly through the company, $26. Don't get me wrong, princess included transportation, while ours didn't. But for $208 difference, uber was definitely a bargain! And a fancy lunch and souvies.

The boat had maybe 30 people on it, we could move around wherever we wanted. A crew member stated that the last tour (the princess booked one) had so many people, there weren't extra seats if someone wanted to be somewhere else. Basically, where you landed was where you stayed.

If you're looking for whale watching in the Caribbean, I recommend Dominica. DW and saw more whales during our excursion there than we did in Hawaii or Alaska. I realize that luck can play a big role (as the captain of the boat mentioned they were out the previous day and didn't see a one). We saw many pods, and 400 and some odd pictures later DW had a huge smile! Good luck to the OP on whatever trip you are taking and may you see many whales.

Counting down the days.

We did the Princess tour Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Watching tour two weeks ago on the Island Princess.

We must have had an excellent day, because we twice saw a pod of whales do bubble feeding, and we also saw two whales breech.

If Alaska. Suggest ship sponsored Whale Watching tour with Salmon Bake out of Juneau.

We saw lots of whales, then the boat capt brought us in close to shore and we watched a large group of Stellar Sea Lions sunning them selves up on the beach.

Back to the Dock, boarded the bus which took us to the Salmon bake. That turned out to be a very good idea.

We did whale watching in Juneau last week. We used Juneau Whale Watching - juneauwhalewatch dot com. They were great. We saw Orca whales - male, female, baby - and humpback. The humpbacks repeatedly did bubble feeding. The captain dropped the hydrophone so we could hear the female - wonderful. There were also a dozen or more bald eagles where we boarded the boat.

They were very good last year. BTW Harv and Marv seem to have retired

Maybe Harv and Marv have retired but went with the company last Wednesday. Highly recommended and do the smaller boats. We only had 10 people saw huge boats with people scattering for pictures. We were told we checked all boxes. Humpbacks a pod of Orcas that came up right by the boat and Dahls porpoise. We left an raincoat and hat on the transfer bus and it was mailed to us before we got home. So nice people. Awesome day

In Seward, after disembarking NCL Jewel in the morning, we took the Marine Major 7.5hr Kenai cruise. We went to two tidewater glacier up close. Also saw many humpback whales breeching. We went mainly for the glaciers and scenery, and was really thinking about the wild life, but it was a pleasant surprise to see so many whales. (We also had the Toursaver book, so booked 4 of us at $50/p off)
