#10 Bus to Baha Mar

We're planning on taking the bus to Baha Mar.

I haven't taken that jitney bus in a few years, and I have a few questions.:)

I recall finding the bus by going to the right after getting off the ship. Correct? It's a few blocks?

Is the fare $1.50 per person? Do you pay when you get off? Or on?

How far is Baha Mar? Any landmarks to let us know we're close?

Thanks for the help!:halo:

Fare is still $1.25 pay as you leave Bahamar is 5 miles from the stop downtown on George st. You can see Bahamar for quite a distance as you approach. Just let the driver know you are getting off at Bahamar. There are no day passes and non-guests are not allowed on the outdoor property and can only eat at a couple of venues off the casino.

I contacted them and they said they do not sell day passes to cruise ship passengers but I was welcome to come and use the casino or eat in their restaurants but I could not use the pool or beach so we are going to Melia instead.

Baha Mar has the best casino in the Caribbean. So that's a good choice. The restaurants are extremely pricey but pretty cool. You might be able to sneak out to the pool areas to walk around if you want. I can't remember for sure, but I believe Churchills is open during the day and you can go through there to get to the pool area and avoid security. The pool side restaurant there is really good and more reasonably priced. Possibly even ask if you can go to the restaurant and they may let you go, too. So if you can get out to it, it's worth it. They also have lunch trucks (converted airstreams) down by the beach/pier that are inexpensive and good, too. Most people are reasonable, and if you explain that you are visiting and thinking of staying, would like to see the property, etc, I think there is a good chance they will let you wander it but don't assume. The outdoor property is amazing. Check out the SLS and Rosewood (opened just last week) as they all connect and flow.

No real landmarks on the drive over, but you can't miss the hotel, just tell the driver you are going there.

Staff and security are pretty tight.. so don't embarrass yourself with this nonsense. Also, almost all restaurants not adjacent to the casinos only accept room card as payment (to keep outsiders from trying to use them). Bahamar have made statements that they intend to keep the non-guest off the property so that guests can enjoy their vacations without outsiders.

It's not nonsense. I suggested asking. We had someone who posted recently that they easily accessed the pool area.

I have also been several times, stayed there several times, and visited as a non guest and walked outside no problem. I have seen behind the scenes things there and security has been generally minimal.

My comment was accurate. Don't count on access, but it's not out of the question. Just ask.

And I've seen non-guest embarrassingly asked to leave, Bahamar does not want cruisers.

Look, guys, all we want to do is go to the casino. We might ask nicely if we can look at the pool area, or we may not. If they say NO, it's NO and no big deal.

... and that was exactly my suggestion ;)

Have a great time. It's stunning.

The fare is $1.25? Is exact change required?

You catch the #10 bus by going to the right of the cruise ships, correct?

Still wondering if the fare is $1.25 and if exact change is reguired.

Also, go to the right after exiting the ship to find the #10 bus?:)

Yes, fare is $1.25 pp. Exact change is required. Most drivers do not give change. Pay as you leave the jitney.

#10 can be found on George St and Bay or from the stop across the street from the Hilton at McDonalds.

After exiting the port, continue one block up to Bay Street. Make a right and walk about 3 short blocks past the Straw Market. George Street is on the left, just pass the Straw Market.

I have been to Baha Mar on vacation and visitors cannot access pools or beach. Every person staying at the resort wears and certain wristband for the duration of their stay. Security is tight there. Just want to give everyone a heads up. Also, if you are coming just for the casino go to the Atlantis. Machines are tight, and the tables are dead. Tables normally start at 25 to be prepared.

Does Bahamar has a vacation club or a timeshare? We would love to look at it? We are only doing a 4 hour land and sea excursion when there in August and I want to come back and stay at Baha Mar. We are a couple with no children and normally stay at Secrets chains so Baha Mar is very much our style....much more than Atlantis. We are looking to purchase a timeshre though since we are been going on much more frequent vacations.

No timeshare or vacation club for this property.

The SELL residences (Rosewood). You would need to contact the realty office to discuss. Units start just under 8mil.

We went to the casino yesterday, from our cruise.

Compared to the cruise ship casino, the slots were NOT tight.

Actually, both my husband and I did pretty good. I won on my first machine and played off those winnings for the rest of our stay and still left with $$$$.

By comparison, I only won once at Atlantis and that was 18 years ago (beginner's luck).

Thanks for reporting back. I’m thinking of doing this on my next cruise. But I will be solo. Is the bus a safe environment? For comparison, I don’t feel comfortable on most US city buses. Maybe a taxi would be better. Glad you won and had a great time! Did you eat there too?

Just a suggestion, don't do a timeshare. You can easily get them for a cheaper price by buying directly from a person. I have one I am constantly trying to get rid of. I can answer any questions if you want.

If you don’t feel comfortable on most US busses, I would not recommend that you take a jitney. Not because I think it was unsafe, but because of your own comfort level.

Thanks, you are likely right. I had an incident with a stranger with wandering hands on a public bus going to my summer job when I was 15. The bus driver noticed, stopped the bus, and addressed the issue. I got my license a month later and never looked back. That was 33 years ago, but I have tried to avoid buses since then.
