Princess Medallion

From what I read from someone who disembarked the Regal today, it’s being implemented by Muster station. Those in Muster station “B” have the Medallion; “A” will be added soon. In other words, it’s not random cabins but by location.

I'll be on the Regal in a couple of weeks and the medallion is to be available. Has anyone had experience with this and pointers? Thanks.

We were on the first preview cruise when the medallion itself wasn't doing much but it's gradually working on opening doors, being used in shops and of course, in the casino. I posted a review on our blog.

Very informative blog. We are leaving on Regal in a couple of weeks, but do not believe we will have a medallion. We are sorry about that, but we received some OBC when we called to express our concern.

Just off the Regal. It is implemented between the forward staircase and the far forward staterooms on Mariner and Lido decks. I was in a far forward stateroom so I walked by these rooms throughout the cruise... lots of folks were struggling to get in and out of their rooms. The rooms no longer have a slot for a key-card but have what appears to be a 7" tablet affixed to the entryway to the room (where the mailbox is typically located). On the bottom part of the tablet there is a 2 inch square on the screen to put the Medallion thingy up to. So without a mailbox they are saving paper? Trees?

The rollout of Medallion's expectation vs reality has left me scratching my head. Me thinks a huge boo-boo is hanging on someone.

I wonder what the plan is to replace all the spam that typically goes into the mail box?

Princess must have an idea to keep soliciting people for spa specials and art auctions,

but if it is tied to the medallion, they will probably have to go back to paper.

The next thing you'll see is tailored ad's on the TV before every movie/program & channel. :D

Thought one of the benefits of the Medallion, was you didn't need to do this. You just had to be within a certain distance from the door for it to open!!!!!

This is their plan and it worked like that for the last 5 days of our sailing which was great for my medallion. For some reason my husband had more issues and sometimes had to put his medallion up to that box.

Thanks, good to know it's slowly starting to work. Was going to day that we're booked on the Island in April 19 which was advertised as a Medallion cruise, but just checked and it no longer is....

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I checked with our travel agent at Princess and our cabin is not included with the Medallion. At this time it is still in the "preview" stage. Probably to work out the kinks. Appears that it is rather frustrating right now. Nothing I want to experience when I'm trying to relax on vacation!

I have asked this question a few times, but never get a reasoned response. Why do passengers even care about the *****? Is it so important to have a device unlock your cabin door....rather then simply use a cruise card? And its the same with ordering drinks. Why is the ***** any better then simply handing a waiter your cruise card? Just color me confused, but it seem like Princess is spending a fortune for a device that will simply unlock doors. or....do you think perhaps they are spending all this money to have a device that can track each passenger's habits (including how much time they spend in their bathroom)? And yes, there is a Medallion device being installed in each cabin bathroom.

once the ***** platform is fully working on the ship, your ***** thing can do everything for you like the cruise card. Instead of scanning your keycard at muster or getting on/off the ship, they use your *****. a waiter can walk up to you to place your order instead of using the card, etc.

similar to how key less cars works. you just keep the fob in your pocket and all of the doors unlock and the car starts.

On our Regal cruise 12/28-1/7 It wasn't working in the shops or bars. Sometimes working in the casino. Most people were having problems with their doors. One family we spoke with out of 3 people in the cabin it would only work on the door for one of them. Everyone that had the ***** also had a cruise card because it did not work most of the time. One person I talked to said he went to customer service and turned his in the second day because it was a pain in the butt.

While I do anticipate that the ***** will provide a benefit to make things easier around the ship, I think that they'll still have to scan each individual separately & verify each person at muster (and exiting & entering the ship) since switching medallions would provide false verification unless each person's face is checked.

So, no savings there.

We are booked on a cruise which previously was to be Medallion. Now medallion is cancelled. Great! Don't see a need of any of the "benefits" listed for the medallion. We will just ENJOY our cruises!

Smart and proper attitude!

We are on the April 1st Eastern Caribbean, on the Lido Deck and in the 200's. Sound like we may be trying out the medallion. I hope it is not an April Fools joke on us. I have been looking forward to the ***** and am glad we may get to try it out. Either way, its our first time on the Regal as well as on a cruise not on the West Coast since back in the 90's so we are excited. I hope they get this all straightened out for the SKY Princess.

We had the ***** on the December 10th sailing. Most of the the time it did work to open the door and in the casino. It worked in the store too but the staff couldn't always seem to see our picture on their tablets, sometimes they appeared and sometimes not. We reported every little glitch. None of the other "features" were functioning.

Honestly the best parts about the experience were what they rolled out in conjunction with ***** such as shortened muster (no need to take lifejacket), improved embarkation / debarkation, and Medallion Net which was fantastic (and free / unlimited to those Platinum and Elite). Everyone got the benefit of these things, ***** or not.

They stopped, having passengers take lifejackets to the Muster, long before the *****! This has been the trend across most cruise lines since the SOLAS requirements do not require having the lifejackets. There were previously too many injuries (even one injury is too many) from passengers tripping over lifejacket straps.

And this is a big deal? And you believe that Princess is spending 10s of millions so its easier for you to unlock your door? And I can sell you a large cruise ship for a bargain price :). When you get to your cabin bathroom and see that ***** sensor attached to the bathroom wall, ask yourself how this is useful to you.

As to your comparison to car FOBS (which we do have)...in the pre-FOB days I could replace my car key for about $2. When I once lost one of my car FOBs it cost around $300 for a replacement and the necessary programming! This is progress?
