alternative to Railway in flam?

is this all there is to do in Flam?

Defnitely not - just Google things to do in Flam. We are doing the fjord safari.

It looks rather like a church but it’s not - it’s a lovely pub/bar with a microbrewery

There is a nice walk to the top of the waterfall outside the town, but you do need suitable footwear and be reasonably fit.

You can hire Segways and bikes. Unfortunately Norwegian law means children are not allowed on Segways. We have a 13 and 16year old who would have loved it.

I agree and it is very close to where ship docks. Not sure you would spend all day there, I think money would run out too quickly.

ah! did not know about that one. less than 4 miles round trip and mostly flat except the steep bit at the end. Don't think my knees would take that without the help of hand rails :(

I think there is a rib boat excursion. That would be fun.

There's a nice walk up the valley to the Flam Stave Church. It's relatively level and although along the main road down to where the ships berth, there is little traffic. It says on the map you can download from the link below that it's 6Km so nearly 2 miles each way.

Sorry that link isn't very good. You need to select the first listed site which allows a download to the walking trails but it is in fact the same map from the link posted earlier. It is a very good map though with well described trails (distance, difficulty). We have a paper copy which I guess we must have picked up in the tourist office in the same building where you get the train tickets. Can't miss it.

Norway in a Nutshell day trip, which does include the Flaam train one way, is a great day out.
