So Carrib water in Feb - is it cold???

We just got off the Majesty and need to rebook...to help medicate my post cruise depression.

The water was so cold last week in the Bahamas...how would the Southern Carribean water be in Feb??? Should I wait and just book in the summer??? That is when we are used to cruising...but I'd rather go in the Winter to break it up a bit.

We cruised the Southern Carribean the week of Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. We were in Barbados, St. Maarten and Martinique. The water in Barbados was really warm as in St. Maarten. I would think it would be a lot warmer in the Southern than compared to the Bahamas during the month of Feb.
The Southern route is a great trip by the way...one of our favorites!

Normally the weather all winter in the Southern Caribbean runs in the high 70's to mid 80's.

it never gets cold in the s caribbean. It does in the bahamas

When you say "cold", what are we talking? [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img] I am from Maine where the ocean water never gets to 60 degrees..........Are you talking cold or luke warm!! I have a cruise next February that will take me to the Bahamas.......should I bring long john swim gear???? LOL [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

A few years ago we were on the sovereign to the bahamas in febuary, My first cruise [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img] , and it was too hot in my opinion, the minute I got out of the pool my feet were burning on deck, I had to run to the nearest carpeted area which was an elevator to the VCL. I cant imagine how hot it down south of that.

We have been in the southern Caribbean in Jan{3 times} and August{1 time}
Getting away from Massachusetts in January to the beautiful southern Caribbean is the BEST! The water temps are perfect.
We look so forward to getting out of the cold. It helps make the winter go by faster. The August trip was very hot. We still enjoyed it but Jan/ Feb is great.

You have to remember, The Bahamas are very close to Florida, so the weather is pretty similar. The S Carribean is much more south. Weather in The Bahamas in Feb. can be very hit or miss, although I was there in March this year and the last two days it was so windy you couldn't do anything on the water. From what I hear on the boards some of the Carribean was similar this year, but I bet it was much warmer.

We did western last Feb anad the weather was fantastic so I imagine that southern would be even better! Enjoy!

Just got back from the eastern Caribbean last Sunday and the water was a little chilly in St. Thomas but not cold. It took a minute or two to get used to it but after that it was heavenly. Th air was warm and breezy in the mid 80's. In St. Maarten the air was a little warm but the water still had a little chill to it.

It was pretty windy in november, on the explorer they had to close off the front of the ship because it was so windy, I think I heard one of the crew say one or two windows were broke bcause of it

The ship was filled...I'd say 3/4 with people from Massachusetts...it was a hoot...the performer on the first night had a man on stage from MA and when he said...anybody else out there from MA...the whole audience exploded with applause. It was kind of neat...but in a way...I always love meeting people from all over the country. It was tough to do on this trip. Our tablemates were from about an hour north of me....funny. Great cruise!!! How did your friend like it???

We were also another Massachusetts cruiser on the Majesty last week and thought the water in Coco Cay was lovely.

We cruise every year in Feb., and have done the so. caribbean several times. The weather and the water have always been warm. Feb. is my favorite time of the year to cruise since we live in north-west Pa. and the winters are very long and cold! Nothing like getting away for awhile and the so. caribbean fills the bill!

My husband and I are from New Brunswick, Canada which is north and a bit east of Maine [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img]. We took our first cruise in November of last year and did an eastern caribbean itinerary. I found the water so warm in Jamaica and Grand Cayman that it was barely refreshing to get into. I would expect the water to be a bit colder in February but probably not much.

You can go to various cruise sites and search for your cruise. Once you find it, get the itinerary and click on the links for the various ports of call. Most of the links will give you the average air temperature (highs and lows), days and inches of precipitation. That should give you a good idea as to what the water temperature might be like.

In sum, I would have to say that any cruise in the caribbean in February beats an uninterrupted six months of snow in New Brunswick.

We have had two cruises, one at the end of January and the other at the beginning of February. The water was fine, even had to wear a Tshirt so I didn't burn when we snorkeled. I am not sure of the temperature but it was cold the entire way until we got to Cozumel. After that the cruise was nothing but shorts and short sleeves or sleevless. Enjoy!!

The Bahamas isn't the caribbean, so the water is like Miami temps- I used to live there.

Have cruised east and west carib in Feb, and the water was fine. Not really really warm, but plenty warm enough to swim/snorkel in, about 80-82 I think. Most people find it warm enough, but as I used to live in the bahamas, i'm probably a bit pickier than most. It was warmer than the pools on the ship, anyway!
