Transport from LA cruise Terminal to Anaheim Hotel

Is it possible to book a city tour of LA after Cruise and be dropped off at hotel at Disney?

We plan on hiring a car but after a couple of days at Disney.

Or any other suggestions? We would obviously have luggage and 5 of us so hiring a van (with a driver) is another option.

Hi,

A- I don't know of any city tours that leave from the cruise port

B-Disney is located in Anaheim 1 hr south of LA so not on an LA tour itinerary.

C-I would expect that renting a van and driving yourself would be the most cost effective.

D-Booking a transfer with a shuttle company is the only other way I know to get there.

Okay, here's the problem you are going to have: Los Angeles is a VERY large city...not only in terms of population, but also in terms of area...The "City of Los Angeles" has a population of only around 4 million, but that really doesn't tell the whole story. The metropolitan area is really fragmented into hundreds of smaller entities in sort of a giant jigsaw puzzle...Taken together, the metropolitan area has a population of over TWENTY MILLION people...and it stretches over a physical region incomprehensible to most--a widespread area of coastal plains, mountain ranges and inland valleys--all connected by an intricate system of freeways and roads, many passing through canyons and mountain passes. And the city really was built around the automobile. Nearly everyone here drives one...or two or three. Public transportation systems are very well thought out...or complete...or easy to use. Traffic patterns are bizarre--unlike cities where everyone lives in the outskirts and works in the city center, here people come from all directions and work in all directions. So, basically, getting from anyplace in the area to anyplace else likely takes far more time than most outsiders would imagine.

That said, the Port of Los Angeles and its cruise terminals are located in San Pedro and Long Beach, roughly 30 miles south of the major tourist sites of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc. Disneyland is in Anaheim--in a completely different direction--about 32 miles east of the cruise ports.

Most of the tour companies operating in Los Angeles are based in Hollywood and the West Side (Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, etc.)--and those are the areas of LA with the most "general" tourists (as opposed to tourists who are here specifically to visit Disney or go on a cruise). So, those tour companies generally sell bus tours which either meet or pick up at hotels or locations in Hollywood or on the West Side. They don't drive a 60 mile or more round trip out of their way to pick up people in San Pedro or Anaheim to take them on a tour and then drive another long trip to drop them off...There is one well-known company that picks up and drops off in the Harbor area--Sunseeker Tours--because they are actually based out of Long Beach...but, even for them, a drop-off in Anaheim would be a major trip out of their way.

So, you will likely not find ANY tour company that will do what you have described UNLESS they will set it up for you as a private CUSTOM tour...and they will likely charge you handsomely for that...because, remember, they likely have to send a guide and van from their headquarters in Hollywood or West LA all the way down to San Pedro/Long Beach to pick you up, then drive clear back across town to the sites in Hollywood and the West Side, then clear back down to Anaheim to drop you off, then they get to fight whatever traffic to return all the way to their home base. BUT, of course, they will do that--for a price--because they are in business. There are a good many tour companies in LA that do customized tours. A quick sampling via google search found these:

https://glitteratitours.com/schedule-rates/

http://www.lalatours.net/

...among others. You could try contacting them and ask for a proposal and see what they come up with and at what price (note that even their websites discuss picking up only in certain areas).

You might want to contact Sunseekers and explain your dilemma to them...They may be able to take you and your luggage on a tour from the ship then returning to Long Beach at the end of the tour--and take an Uber or shuttle to Anaheim at the end of that--or Sunseekers may be willing to bring you to Anaheim for an additional charge.

Oh dear!

I think we are just going to have to hire a car/van when we leave the cruise and drive to Anaheim and leave LA for another day!

We have a 10 year old with us that’s why we are having a couple of days in Disney then having a road trip up to San Francisco for our flight home!

At the moment with a night in San Simeon, then one in Solvang the next in Monterey then up to San Francisco.

I hope you meant Solvang first, THEN San Simeon...Solvang is further South...

Some more notes:

Solvang: If you have a little time on the way, spend some of it in Santa Barbara--very nice town with shops and restaurants along State Street plus an old Spanish Mission and nice beach/pier area--often they have art shows along the beach. Solvang itself is a bit touristy, but fun. Lots of great wineries in the area--but, of course, with a 10 year old, you may be skipping those. There is also an old Mission here--right next to the town. Stop in one of the Danish bakeries (I always ask for the Danish pumpernickel--it's a dense, square bread that is absolutely delicious and unlike any other bread). For dinner, I really like AJ Spurs--on the road between Solvang and Buellton.

San Simeon: The town of San Simeon has, basically, nothing but a few blah hotels...many people visiting prefer to stay in nearby Cambria or Morro Beach. But look into pre-reserving tours at Hearst Castle--you cannot visit on your own--only with a tour. Really incredible.

For the drive from San Simeon to Monterey, make sure to check road conditions--they had a major landslide on Route 1 not long ago and it may be closed. Check for the status for when you are there. If you DO go on Route 1, make sure you do it during DAYLIGHT hours...it is scary at night and you would miss the views anyway. In daylight, it is spectacular...but if you are the one driving, keep your eyes on the road.

Monterey: Especially with a 10 year old, don't miss the Aquarium. If you are a John Steinbeck fan, lots of important sights here. Also, take the 17 Mile Drive through Pebble Beach to Carmel...

I hope you've left some time for San Francisco before you fly out!

Have fun...

I did mean Solvang first, and good information re San Simeon and Hearst castle.

We did a version of the road trip about 3 years ago, started in Las Vegas, a night in Barstow- that was different! Then Ventura Beach to Solvang. We didn’t do much there as it was just too hot! This was just the 2 of us our friends and their 10 year old will be with us this time!

We are trying to talk our friends out of Hearst Castle and the LA tour as we think their son will get bored!

He is more interested in seeing (driving past) Apple and Google HQs!

And thank you for your detailed replies.
