Which sailing?

Phone reception started dropping at about 11:00pm. Most people have said the ship gets into the Gulf between 11pm and 12am.

Mostly just pizza, the deli(until 11pm), and room service. There might be something on the buffet at night(burgers and hot dogs), but I wouldn't call it a midnight buffet.

Oh wow! I had no idea it would take that long to get down the river! I'm even more excited now for our cruise in Feb 2018. We booked an Aft Balcony so looking forward to enjoying the sights down the river!

I really enjoy going down the Mississippi alway so much to check out as you are going. I do want to caution you that in February it does get dark very quickly after sail away so make sure you get to see as much as you can before getting too dark.

I will second that. The ship left an hour late, and I couldn't see a thing out the windows in the aft dining room at 6:00pm.

thanks for the tip about it getting dark early! I suppose that means it gets a little chilly as well? I'll be sure to bring a jacket.

Does anyone have recent menus for the 5 night cruise? we go in 6 days!

I get so excited about cruising and one of the things that I like to peruse is the menus. As we all know, they can be difficult to find. I happen to find a video on youtube where someone took pictures of most of the menus. I compiled them into Word docs so I could print them for my family to enjoy. I am not 100% sure on this info but it looked quite likely with everything I have heard about the American Table.

Thanks for all the info. I didn't think about it getting dark early in January.

We cruise on January 29. And the menu has made me hungry. :)

Rereading it made me hungry, too!

Thanks Shorty! I put it back into a word doc and printed it! Wife will love it... again thanks!

You're welcome Bob, I'm always glad to share my happy things with others. Have a great trip!

Glad to help. I would take a jacket it could get a bit cool. Also if you have any other questions let know and I will be glad to answer to the best of my ability. My favorite port to cruise out of is NOLA and was on the Triumph about 6 months ago.

Wait, it goes down the Mississippi for a few hours? So its like a partial river cruise?

I would not call it a river cruise. This is estuary swamp country at the very end of the Mississippi River system connecting New Orleans to the open Gulf of Mexico. The only time on embarkation day that I really noticed the shore was during dinner in the MDR; then it was off to enjoy various ship happenings, and when we woke up the next morning we were out in open water. Likewise, at bedtime on the last night we were not yet in the river channel, but sometime around midnight the ship moves into this final leg of the journey.

January in NOLA can range from below freezing to 80+ degrees. Check the weather before you leave so you know what to pack. Even going down the river, there is a swift breeze so keep that in mind.

Since you have priority boarding I believe you get to hang out in the platinum/diamond area. It is quite nice with nice comfortable coaches and chairs.

Little off topic, my DW and I love your town. She is trying to get me to agree to come to the story telling event you all have. We hope to move to that region shortly.

There is definitely a separate area for you. Not sure how much nicer it is than general waiting, since it is somewhat private and everyone else can't see it, but it is a smaller room off to the side of the huge terminal. You are ushered past the hoard by a Carnival employee to this area. Then at boarding time you are led to the entry area first.

We just finished a cruise as Platinum's on Triumph 8/26-9/2 and yes there is a room with coffee/lemonade/water and lots of pastries. We arrived at the port by taxi, they put the priority tags on our luggage and we walked thru the doors into the terminal.

BIG NOTE HERE! We actually embarked from the NCL terminal as the Breeze (and docked at the Carnival terminal) was in NOLA taking on supplies and letting passengers that wanted to get off because of Harvey. They apologized for the sloppy setup in the Plat/Diamond area (not needed as it was fine) and assured us that if we went out of NOLA again it would be much better. They did call us prior to any FTTF (sitting outside the area) and right after the wedding parties boarded. Diamond first then Plat. At some ports it seems like a free for all and Diamond/Plat/FTTF get called at the same time, not in NOLA!

Platinum. . . not there yet. But I'm a new Orleans native and always sail out of my home port. I understand not liking our parking. I usually take an Uber or Lyft from my home. I would recommend parking at a long term lot that would be cheaper at the airport in Kenner and getting a cab or Uber to the port. Some hotels near the airport will let you keep your car there and shuttle you to the port if you stay a night or two with them.
