Carnival bands?

The Breeze has no band in their productions. They were not memorable. I just heard Freedom is getting rid of their bands. Does anyone know which other ships are going band-free? Dream still has the best shows I hope Carnival isn't taking their band away. They call it quality vs quantity on the Breeze.

When we were on the Freedom last month they did make the comment that they had 1 of 3 remaining "full" bands in the fleet. They're were several in the band - perhaps up to 10?

I hope they're still there in November. I enjoyed the evening they played in the Havana Bar (Funk and Motown was the theme).

Carnival can take their DJ's and... well.. who really needs them either? Just play totally recorded music if that's what it's heading to...

I agree!! Who needs DJ's?? Freedom will have bands until they go to dry dock. They're making a huge mistake. Oh and where have all the sushi bars gone?

Glad to hear that they're still planning on being there for a few more months.

For years there have been countless threads regarding the continuous "thinning" of live entertainment. The first time I was aware of those "bean counter tweaks" was when they eliminated the live music in the Supper Clubs... now known as the Steakhouse...

I didn't know that!! The Breeze still had the atrium, casino, lanai, etc singers. But the shows had 6 entertainers. No band and lackluster dancers. We have been on Freedom 3 times. We love the Beatle tribute show.

Ticket to Ride !! We've seen it a couple of times, skipped it last month, but might see it again in November.

Yes that's it! Maybe you can raise such a ruckus in Nov they will change their minds.

I've given them plenty of feedback over the years... about the ONLY thing which has changed that I was always suggesting was an improvement in their casino program (perks and such).

Still waiting on improved room service for suite and diamond guests ... and waiting.. and waiting... :D (plus other stuff - LOL) !

Not to worry they are reviewing their loyalty program so it should be ready to go in about _____ years.

I just returned from the Breeze yesterday and yes you are right there is no longer a band for the shows. At first when I first heard about this matter on CC I was really upset because I really loved that format. But I must say now I really did enjoy the new format of the shows I thought they were fresh and modern.

Well, this is just my opinion, but I felt that Breeze's shows came across as cheap & anything but modern. Having big screens to provide graphics or interacting with cartoon characters made me feel sorry for the performers. I feel the need to point out that I am within Carnival's target young adult demographic. I have been to many modern concerts with well-known artists that are amazing productions, and they have all included live music, and Carnival's new shows are nothing like those at all. "Quality vs quantity": If they tried that line with me, I would probably have exploded all over them. The quality is so poor compared to what's on ships like the Dream or the Triumph. Some people may still like the new shows or even prefer them, but these new shows are a big step down in quality. After having said all that, I will say that I was able to enjoy the Divas show, & the motown one was alright.

To the OP, the ships that are band free currently are Breeze, Sunshine, Conquest, Glory, & a couple Fantasy class ships (I think Ecstasy is one of them). More ships will be getting them as they go into drydock to get their 2.0 "upgrades". It's very unfortunate. Triumph is listed as having gone band-free with the recent drydock, but reports are that they still have the 10-piece showband and the good production shows.

Yea, our kids like to sit up for front and for the shows we sat close, I wish I would have brought rain ponchos while on the Breeze in March. The dancers were sweating that much. :-)

I agree the live band shows in the main theater were MUCH more better than they are today on the Breeze. I understand CCL's attempt to try something different but in this case it's clearly not better. I hope they have been taking note of this and adjust accordingly.

We will be seeing this for the first time in Feb but just about everyone on here thinks this is not a step in the right direction.

They're taking notes alright - notes as to how much they're saving by not paying, housing, and feeding all these "unnecessary" entertainers. That also helps to explain why MDR servers have more tables than in years past as well as why your cabin steward has more rooms under their care.

All that takes a bit off the cruise experience. Many will not notice, others will not really care, and the rest - well, some will just bitch a little on places like CC... leaving a very small percentage who will go elsewhere. Carnival WINS!!

I was on the Triumph in July and she does still have the showband and the production shows.

What bothers me is they are now putting the cover bands in the hallway where people walk past the casino.

A terrible place to put them.

Than in the future they will tell us this will be discontinued for lack of interest.

Food and service still good but entertainment cutbacks is what will drive me away from Carnival.

Music Boardwalk was on the Freedom last month. I only WISH that they were playing near the casino (where I spend an undue amount of time). Instead at the casino bar area they had a solo guy half the time (if I can't say something nice.. I'll just say nothing right now) and a small latin band the other nights (no thanks again). Music Boardwalk was always playing in the Atrium. We enjoy them so we did hang out there for several songs - though most of their stuff was geared towards those who were moving rather slow, shall we say. The "Music bands" were more fun when they were in a small lounge.

Oh well !!!

The smaller lounges is the best place for them and wish they would stay there.

Hard to sit and listen to classic rock songs with lots of noise and people constantly walking back and forth.

Same here. We were on the Triumph late July and the band was there.

Anyone know why the new entertainment format was not implemented? Could it be because the drydock and 2.0 upgrades were unscheduled and the band & entertainers are still under contract?
