Half Moon Cay Question

The only real change is that it used to be a relaxing beach day. Now with music blasting from the ship bar, it's more of a club scene. We'll be back there in 5 weeks but I'm not as excited about the port as I used to be.

Thanks for posting this. I've booked HMC a couple times the past few years, but every time the port call ends up being cancelled for weather. I've wondered how that ship bar has changed the experience.

Wish they would develop more of the island and have room for two ships so we could go more often
Not going to happen, thank goodness.

They are limited on the development since most if the island is a wildlife sanctuary. I appreciate having a smaller guest load on this island, can't imagine it with 5 or 6 thousand people.

Last time we were there two ships did anchor and use the island (both Holland America). We were scheduled but the Nieuw Amsterdam came because of weather at another port. Lots of people but we still had plenty of room and no trouble getting food, drinks, or tenders

Two ships often port at HMC. I've even seen a HAL & CCL ship together (in a pic). Imagine being on a HAL ship at HMC and see a funnel coming around the corner, they must Sh*t.

I don't like the two story cabanas, pirate ship, and seafood shack that have been added since Carnival started sailing to HMC. Best Caribbean port IMHO but I prefer the less developed HMC. I will only book when one ship is scheduled. HAL does a better job at the BBQ and cabana service. I find less people on the island with HAL vs CCL.

HAL and Carnival ships are never in HMC at the same time.

Wrong

Didnt realize HMC could or would take two ships. Interesting

They have had three but its rare and sometimes a non Carnival/HAL ship ports as well.

Here are some examples

Monday 12 March, 2018

ms Eurodam (arriving at 08:00 - departing at 16:00)

ms Zuiderdam (arriving at 08:00 - departing at 14:00)

The examples listed are for 2018.

There have been other years when both HAL and Carnival ships were scheduled for HMC on the same day ... BUT in the end only the HAL ship actually went.

Wrong, they have been scheduled in the past.

Guess if Carnival can go to the RCCL private island they would reciprocate.

HA has always had first dibs on HMC and surprised that two have ever been scheduled and there at same time

I know (from people who sail on Carnival) that the prices for the Cabanas are lower than what HAL charges.

Also -- there is a different menu for the Carnival ships at the Lobster Shack.

Wonder how this will work for the March 12, 2018 with 2 HAL ships and 1 Carnival ship?

Good question KK about the Lobster shack.... I guess I will find out since we will be there that day.

On the cabana/villa question, doesn't HAL have butler service for those (Carnival does not) and thus maybe the higher cost?'

Edit: another thing that will be interesting that day is the allocation of cabanas and villas among the three ships since you have wait until you're on board to select one that you've previously reserved.
