I am headed to Australia in January on the Jewel and I could have chosen to get a 2 bedroom suite for 7k but opted to stay in the Haven for 12k in a 2 bedroom to have the ability to stay in the Haven....I don’t think they should have any rights to hang out in the Haven because you are booked in it and they didn’t pay the additional money for it, regardless if it dead or not. The main pool is also dead on port days. You can def enjoy that with your friends. That’s why you pay more for the Haven. I agree with the other poster who said you could have read threads before asking lol it’s always a touchy subject. There should be no exceptions. Hopefully it doesn’t ruin your cruise.

Politely beg to differ. It used to be that the FAs would often announce that everyone was on the plane and the doors were closed AND people were free to change seats.... within their class of service. This has all changed in the past 7-10 years. Within the coach cabin, there can be premium seats, seats reserved for elite frequent fliers, exit rows, bulkhead rows, etc. etc. etc. You are no longer allowed to just decide you want to go sit in the exit row, and you certainly aren't allowed to upgrade yourself to FC. As those are discrete products that the airline sells, or unilaterally decides who can sit where, if you were to just go sit in FC, you would be stealing from the airline. It's not a discrete product, like the actual seat itself, which would be very hard to actually take with you when you left the plane , but rather a service - transportation from point A to point B, in a certain class of "service".

Anyway, if you don't purchase The Haven or are not granted access to it through some sort of upgrade, upsell, donations to the casino or elite status, then I don't believe you should be in The Haven.

Hello Maja...long time no see.
I hope you have a great time in your owners suite! Its my understanding that non-Haven suites on the Pearl/Jewel get all Haven perks except access to the Haven pool area. They get priority boarding, tender, breakfast at Cagneys, etc. I am not familiar with a Haven sundeck on the Pearl or Jewel. If its not located inside the pool area, I would bet the concierge would have no problem with your adjacent friends to come with you if its on a port day and you stay on the ship. I never could understand the huge price difference for suites vs Haven suites on the jewel class ships. Such a huge price increase for access to a tiny pool. Even on the mega ships Epic and Getaway we never use the Haven pool but we do use the sundeck. I wish they had non Haven suites on the newer ships. One detail that is in your favor. The guests in the adjacent suites are only a total of 3? These amount of passengers could easily fit inside your suite however they are paying for another suite. Enjoy your cruise and give us a review when you get back. BTW, how are the pups?

Hi David! It's nice to see a friendly face in this thread. Lol. The sundeck is not located in the actual pool area it is above it. It's nice because it's quieter than the regular pool deck and the loungers are Haven loungers. Many people seem very upset about this potential threat to the Haven so I almost wish I never would've started this thread. What I don't think people understand here is that, I have no intentions of even going into the Haven any other time during the cruise, and it's likely we will just skip it altogether. I was really just throwing out a scenario to get opinions. Opinions I'm OK with, insults I am not. Although I should've known this would happen. I'm not sure when you read this thread but many insults were thrown out to me but were deleted from the moderator. You would have thought I had killed a baby or something based on some of these insults.
AnyWho I do appreciate the opinions and completely understand once again to all of those who think I don't, that the Haven suites are exclusive, expensive and should be kept that way.

The dogs are great thanks for asking! Hope all is well in your world!

The sundeck sounds like its not part of the pool area. I imagine this wont be a problem unless its really crowded there which I bet its not. The people who paid the big bucks for Haven pool area will be lounging there and not the sun deck. However if the access to the sundeck is through the Haven area it could be a problem. Its all going to come down to the concierge. Enjoy your cruise.

The sundeck is part of the Haven pool area. You need to get to the sundeck through the pool area. There are stairs from the pool up to the deck. The Concierge should not be giving anyone access that isn’t a Haven traveler. All my Haven cruises I saw Concierge actually removing people who were not Haven guests who were so well mannered.

He's right about having to go through the Haven pool area to get to the sundeck. But, that just reminded me of something. There is a public sundeck adjacent to the Haven one (starboard versus port). On the Jewel, that sundeck had the same chairs as the Haven and no one ever used it. I know this because It was right outside the GV door's upper sundeck and sometimes we would prop open our door to go check out the 2 sundecks. So, problem solved. We will use the public sundeck that is right there. If I want to get butler service from there I will just call the butler and meet him at the gate that separates the 2 areas.

I would be the same in person as on here. It has nothing to do with meanness. As folks have pointed out, you read the rules and agreed to them when you booked. No, there shouldn't be exceptions for anyone and all circumstances should be created equal in these circumstances. The rules are in place for everyone. If I paid for a haven experience and people who didn't got to take advantage of it anyway, I would say something. As others have said, the haven is meant to be a separate, special experience. If everyone gets the same perk, the intention is lost. You know what the right thing to do it here. Just do that. I don't think you'll get permission from anyone who has stayed in the haven before.

Michelle,

I always appreciate your posts and your gracious attitude! Here are my thoughts...

We did the Panama transit on the Pearl in October. We were in an SE forward suite with no Haven access. We didn't attempt to enter the Haven (no need to) but if your plan is to ask the concierge for some special consideration, then my guess is you will have success. We personally did not care for the concierge Yahira, but you may feel differently. She's extremely outgoing in a juvenile sort of way and easy to chat up. She will go out of her way to buddy up with you, so you should feel very comfortable asking her for favors.

Hope that helps!

By bringing them in to the Haven I think you know you will be abusing the system and you are doing wrong. You already know that though by the disclaimers in your original and subsequent posts. Regardless if the cabins are connecting and regardless of how many your suite can hold: No Haven fare SHOULD equal no access.

Disclaimer: The above post was not posted with snarky intentions and was solely intended to answer Maja's query.
That was very well put. I agree it puts staff in difficult position. They will naturally want to accommodate. What if another Haven passenger called you out and complained. That would not look good on your nor the Concierge. I don't wish to be inconsiderate, but I would be offended knowing I paid extra for the Haven priviledge and Non-havens were given access.

Yes this kind of topic is always beaten to death and always brings the "best" out in people However this situation is unique and was really a simple question. Usually the threads are about Haven passengers who are requesting priority boarding or lunch at Cagneys with their non-Haven guests. The jewel class ships give all suites whether they are Haven or not priority boarding and breakfast and lunch in Cagneys. Access to the Haven pool area is only for Haven suites. The OP stated that they have an owners suite booked for only 2 people. There are adjacent suites booked with a total of 3 more people. Clearly they could have booked these 3 people in the owners suite since there would be plenty of room. However they booked 2 additional suites next door that are not Haven suites. The OP was not asking permission to enter the Haven pool area but only the Haven sundeck. Good gosh, they will be stealing sunshine from the Haven sundeck Its very possible it wont be allowed but it was agreed even by the OP they are not requesting access to the Haven complex. They could have booked into the Owners suite but paid bigger bucks to NCL for their own suites. Since the rules of the suites on the Jewel class ships allows them to pre board together and eat together in the Haven restaurant maybe the sundeck will be too much? Who knows. But its so petty to engage in personal insults for such a trivial question. They could have cheaped out and booked everyone in the owners suite. But they spread out and booked their own adjacent suites. One of them is paying double occupancy for a suite for one person next to the owners suite to be near their friends in the owners suite. To make it even more trivial, the OP asked for this access on the port day when most of the ship will be off the ship. I would be surprised if this is not allowed. Does anyone think the sundeck is going to be packed on a port day? In any event its up to NCL. I don't see this as so many are trying to portray this as non-Haven guests trying to mooch Haven perks.

With all due respect, it truly is a trade out. To book everyone in the larger suite you are giving up some privacy and in more cramped quarters to gain full haven access for all. And by doing so NCL is able to sell that other suite or two by full fare or upsell.

And you said they could have booked the additional 3 pax in the Owners suite? Thought the max is 4. We booked the DOS on Epic last March for 3. Cannot imagine 2 more.

Non haven guests are not allowed in the haven. The OP's friends included. They paid for and should receive certain suite perks but not haven.

It is possible to have a conversation and disagree without insults. Plenty of us have done just that. We should not be criticized just for disagreeing with the OP.

Because that is exactly what it is. A Haven guest who thinks their situation is so special that NCL should bend the rules for their non Haven friends. If you want to be guaranteed access than you should pay for it rather than everyone thinking that there should be an exception for them.

Ok, my last post on this and I hope the last post in this thread.

I appreciate everyone's opinions. Thank you for providing them. Thanks in particular to those who were kind in providing them. In a sea of negativity it's nice to have some kind, non-judgmental people chime in (whether they agree with me or not).

I have a solution and know what I'm going to do. Let's let this thread die. PLEASE.

I understand. I remember when I was new to CC, (not saying you are), I started a thread and was pretty much flamed. I dusted off the ashes and got up and got back on that horse.

Even though we disagreed I want to wish you a great cruise.

It could be something as simple as "....my best friend of 30 years is sailing with us and doesn't have Haven access.....an extra 2 people isn't a big deal...." but if everyone thought that way, the Haven (on any ship) would be overcrowded. Now, imagine the people with Haven access who are stuck with a Haven experience that is filled with people who shouldn't have Haven access.

It's not the number of people. It's what those people are and aren't entitled to use based on their booked stateroom. Should everyone in a (non-Haven) suite who paid what your friends paid have Haven access also?

Again, it isn't the number of people that is an issue. The H2 DOS or H4 Family Villa on Escape (for ex.) sleeps 6. If 2 people are staying in that suite, they aren't given an "extra" 4 spots in the Haven to give to whomever booked a stateroom that doesn't have Haven access.

Many of the people responding aren't just responding to you. They are giving information that will be seen by those who are just lurking.

That’s exactly the issue - lots of people think their situation is unique.
If the concierge opens that precedent, soon enough the haven will be just an additional lounge space for all in the ship.
