SOUTHAMPTON - fantastic new 5* HOTEL

Due to a medical problem we had to find a hotel as we couldn't get back to London.

We ended up at the new HARBOUR HOTEL in Ocean Village, overlooking the Marina. (Not Grand Harbour!)

The hotel has been open for about three months and the equal of any 5*/6* hotel we have stayed in.

In addition, the staff were wonderful and went out of their way to look after us - even offering the Hotel guest car to take us to and from the Hospital. Also, a very good price for a hotel of this standard.

Thanks for the recommendation. We will be in Southampton for two days between cruises this summer and will check tout this new hotel.

Full name ‘Southampton Harbour Hotel’ in Ocean Village. There were comments about it on here when it opened. The food is also excellent.

There’s a lovely bar on the 6th floor....’HarBAR On 6’. Views of cruise ships in port.

Apparently, it was built because it was felt that, as a major cruise port, there should be a top-class hotel in Southampton.

The P&O care team had recommended the Elizabeth House, which is a B&B. But I felt that under our circumstances, we required a bit of luxury and pampering. Not feeling let down at all!!

Hope this recommendation helps people looking for a 5* Hotel in Southampton.

It will do.:)

'Cos after Grand Harbour down-graded itself from 5 to 4 a few years ago Southampton has had NO five-star hotels.:(

Some excellent 5-stars in the countryside around, but they're not much use to cruisers who have no personal transport.

And the city has some good boutiques like Pig-in-the-Wall, Ennios & White Star Rooms, good B&Bs like the afore-mentioned Elizabeth House, and some well-regarded chain hotels like Premier Inn, Holiday Inn (& Express) & Novotel, Even the budget hotels like Ibis are very satisfactory.

Southampton Harbour fills a gaping gap in the market, and early reviews are good.

But it's quite expensive.

Its restaurant also gets good reviews, but again it's expensive - if you would like a full personal review from John Bull, just send me £80 and I & mine will check it out. Make it £200 and we'll spend the night there too. All part of my service to fellow Cruise Critic members :D.

JB :)
