Rare Got2Cruise Posted January 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Just a heads up. Due to Government Shutdown the National Parks are affected. You can still take privately run boat tours up close. Just can’t land on Liberty Island or Ellis Island. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Langoustine Posted January 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Governor Cuomo is trying to reopen it using state funds. During the last shutdown in 2013, state funds kept certain parks open, including the Statue of Liberty, which at that time cost $61,600 per day to reopen. Stay tuned.... 1025cruise Posted January 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Hopefully the shutdown won't last long. We just need our legislatures to get their heads out of their behinds and vote to reopen the government. The items they are debating on holding this up can wait. I don’t know if NYS can afford it this time around. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

boscobeans Posted January 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Cuomo said yesterday he will keep the park open and pay the $65,000 to do it. I am not sure but I think the next pay period isn't until the end of the month? If so there is still time to get things running again. bosco
Langoustine Posted January 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2018 SOL and Ellis Island reopened this morning; will cost $65.000 per day. BUT---The Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island impact the state's economy. According to a National Park Service annual report, 4.5 million people visited Liberty Island in 2016. It generated more than $263 million in visitor spending per year and supported 3,400 jobs, with an economic output of $364 million.
Rare Got2Cruise Posted January 22, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted January 22, 2018 It looks like it’s settled for the time being. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare mking8288 Posted January 22, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Operative word, fixed for "now" = really, just getting a 3 weeks CR extension to work out a longer term solution to government funding, federal deficits measured in the trillions. Meanwhile, anyone with a soon to expire U.S. passport in need of a renewal, move it on the double. Earlier, a client nearly panicked as their mortgage documentation pending before the co-op board's review got stalled, unable to access/retrieve historical (prior 2 year's worth) details on the IRS website. Website was offline & calls not answered, as expected due to the shutdown.
