Changes to celebrity suite?

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit worried about possible changes to the layout of the celebrity suite on edge. There are updated schematics on the website that no longer match the description of the room or the original renderings. It seems to be missing a dining area, full wardrobe, master dressing area, sun room, and the bed no longer has direct access to the balcony. Instead the couch has moved and blocked access. It also seems more cramped. I would think this is website glitch but what else would this room be? I can't match it to another room type.

Here's the new rendering first then the original. Edge-CEL-Suites-Updated-Schematics-e1522698233978-1024x619.png

Wow! I remember some complaining early on that the Celebrity Suite had such a small balcony. Maybe they tried to resolve that complaint but completely changed the entire layout! I totally agree with you - looks like the bathroom now has a single sink and don't even see the toilet. Looks cramped. And no view from the bedroom. I'd speak directly to Celebrity right away to try to get the real story. Hopefully they just mistakenly inserted an early rendering by mistake.

My feeling is this doesn't look like a suite. It's a normal room with a divider between the bed and couch and a really long unusable hallway entrance. I guess I can pretend I'm a supermodel and keep walking the runway from the door to my one chair balcony lol. That'll help since as a supermodel I will have no need for the dining area I paid for. And not eating at the table will afford me no toilet. Oh! And I don't need a closet cuz my supermodel sized clothes will fit in the nightstand next to the bed. Yes...I need to stop posting on Jameson. 😉

Interesting! I looked at the Celebrity website and couldn't find the new configuration, but on a deck plan website found these pictures of the Edge CS - some labeled with 2017 and some labeled 2018. They look totally different (at least to my eye!).

I agree that people probably complained about the loggia and wanted a bigger balcony. It's why I didn't book one on day 1 of the sale when prices were more reasonable- I wanted a bigger balcony, but don't care for the new layout either. I wonder if they will change the RS and make a larger balcony and add a Jacuzzi?

Get rid of the bathtub and they would have more space.

Finally found the X website pictures that crewjay123 found - here is the link:

https://www.celebritycruises.com/edge/accommodations/celebrity-suites/

That is a dramatic change from the original CS diagram. In fact it now looks almost identical to the CS on S-Class ships. Perhaps a current picture from the outside of Edge will confirm this as the CS will now have a large balcony instead of a split with the enclosed sun room. I am disappointed as we have a CS booked for our Jan sailing.

It is a dramatic change. I'm not totally surprised - I'm sure they are changing things as they build the ship, but I wouldn't be completely happy with this change, if I had booked a CS. I like the bigger balcony, but wouldn't like losing the dining table (maybe it is not in the pictures to make the room look bigger, but in one picture the coffee table in front of the sofa is shown to pop up and become a little table - see below) or the changed bedroom position. You are right, it does look similar to S Class CS.

I hope that it will still be an awesome suite for you. You probably will spend a lot of time exploring the ship on your first Edge cruise and enjoying the perks of being in a CS.:)

I expected some changes (mainly finishes) not a redesign that cuts half of what made the room unique in the description. Still can't find a wardrobe or dressing area with dual sinks as listed. And hate the bed next to the couch. Plus for me tv trays do not a table make lol. Luckily I got my room day one at a very reasonable price. I'll have fun regardless but this is my first suite so I can't help but be disappointed. I can't imagine someone paying upwards of 8k a person being happy with what looks like a downgrade.

And the description with the new design in no way describes what I'm seeing. Where are the doubles sinks, the seperate dressing area, etc.? They took away usable storage space, and replaced it with an art piece. Lame use of very expensive space!

They will likely change the description eventually - it looks like the closet is now in the bedroom (picture below) and the sink does look large, but single so hopefully they will change the description online.

I have stayed in the S Class CS and it is similar except the Edge CS doesn't have large L-shaped couch (large coffee table with no pop up :)), the bedroom seems to have a nice view of the ocean and isn't so dark, the closet is in front of the bed instead of the walk in closet to the side of the bed and the bathroom is chopped up (the bathroom in the S Class ship is not ideal, but has doors into the living room and bedroom - not sure if the Edge bathroom does or not - I do like this bathroom design better).

Being in a CS, you will have lots of sweet perks - I hope the new design will have some benefits that will start to be reported in December. Thanks for reporting on this and please keep us updated on Celebrity's response. :)

Something screwy here:

For example: here's the link provided by vtcruising:

https://www.celebritycruises.com/edge/accommodations/celebrity-suites/

which does show the 'new rendering'.

However: here's another link from the website:

https://www.celebritycruises.com/edge/accommodations/suites/

which shows the 'old rendering'.

This link has a button labeled "view celebrity suites" which takes you to the 'new rendering'.

However, if you don't hit the button but flip through the pictures on that page 'accommodations/suites', you see the old layout.

What does this mean? Beats me but you have two sets of 'renderings' essentially on the same page. Which one is current?

Sorry to repeat much of what Crewjay123 said, but I'm blown away with their complete lack of creativity with 460 sq. ft! It looks like a regular balcony cabin with a little wall between the bed and the completely wasted hallway area. The storage area sucks! A single sink in a cabin that goes for $8000 per person? Really?!! I'd be more than pissed!

I think the thing that makes me think that crewjay123 showed the current plan is the pictures on this site:

https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/category-detail.php?c=2599

There are 6 pictures that you can scroll through, 3 were uploaded in 2017 and 3 in 2018 - the 2018 pictures match the rendition given by the OP. It would be nice if it was just a big mistake and some old drafts accidently were placed on the websites.

I must compliment vtcruising for trying to smooth things out. I still think they could have been much more creative with the square footage they had.

I agree that they could have done better. I did check to see if they changed the S1's too - so far they look the same....

Hope the AQ class staterooms are not this uninspired . Very hostel/ dorm like..screams IKEA! The bed faces a blank wall!

I am utterly stunned if this is a true depiction of the CS on the Edge. I didn’t care for the original “loggia” addition, but it wasn’t a deal breaker, the rest of the suite was awesome, IMO.

X may be trying to “fix” the problem of the very unappealing small verandah, but this new design is nuts considering the prices that they are charging for a CS on Edge.

We had a CS on Edge booked for a TA but ended up changing to a different cruise on an S-class ship. I would be outraged if this is what we ended up with.

Is it possible that this is a diagram of the S class CS suites after they have been remodeled in the next few years? I do not like the layout of the new Edge Celebrity Suite over the original plans. If this is what Edge CS suites will look like, I hope Celebrity or the travel agents notify the customers who have booked those suites of the drastic change to the layout, so the customer can decide if they want this suite or a different category of cabin for their sailing.

I booked an Edge CS suite on the very first day available. I got an incredible price. The new design is a bit disappointing but it will not at all ruin my cruise. Everything will still be great I'm sure. We will wait for more info and clarifications. In Suite Class, for the current price of a CS on Edge, it offers no advantage at all over booking a much less expensive Sky Suite. That is in general how I feel for CS vs Sky Suites across the Celebrity fleet. However the CS on M-Class is at least much larger and has some nice features- but some not so nice like the high tub and the dark bedroom. Celebrity needs to up its game on the Celebrity Suite if they are charging these prices and not giving it premium suite perks.

I agree. We booked a CS a few times after they made Michael's a suites-only lounge for CS and above. The benefits of having MC and the specialized drink service, the special performances and events, the MC concierge contacting you prior to the cruise to see what requests you had, escorting on and off the ship all made it worthwhile for us to pay a little more (seemed more reasonable then) for a CS. As a bonus, you had more space, although we love the aft balcony of the S1's and like the bathrooms better.

When they redid the suite perks and all suites had access to MC (and Luminae and usually Go Best), we went back to S1's and have been happy there (with a couple of AQ thrown in). The suites above the CS have great additional benefits (free mini bar, free specialty restaurants, etc.), but at a cost we aren't willing to pay at this time. It leaves the CS in the middle, with a few extra benefits that the Sky Suites don't have (such as pre-cruise shore side concierge contact, escorts on and off), but those and the extra space just aren't enough for us to pay extra.

I did almost book a CS on the Edge as I liked the layout (except the small balcony) and liked the location (close to all the suite areas). The price difference wasn't much on the first day (maybe $1200 total). If I had booked it, I would have mixed feelings with these probable changes - I would have been happy about the bigger balcony (though wanted to see the loggia :)), but like the layout less. I too would be able to live with it and have a wonderful cruise, but would be a bit disappointed.

In my opinion, if they want to maintain brisk bookings of the CS they will need to add to the benefits (since I don't think this probable new layout will necessarily bring in the bookings). Anyway, they don't seem to be having trouble with their bookings now - remains to be seen if the new layout is loved or hated.

You have a great attitude, TeeRick! Looking forward to your review! :D
