Cabana buried 'treasure' Game Anyone??

Leaving a little buried 'treasure' next the cabana (facing the cabana bury on the left side front corner) for the next occupants to find - that would make a fun little game!

So, the question is ...exactly what? A small key-chain from your state?, a lucky casino chip or similar small item, or....? The possibilities are endless!

Feel free to post the (date or color or number) you'll be occupying and if you will be leaving a little secret 'treasure' behind. If you wont know what cabana you are assigned until on the ship, please post color and if you left something behind or found something when you return.

Also if you found a treasure when you were at HMC, stop by and tell us what you found!

This thread is for those who wish to join the fun, if you don’t approve, please move on to another thread! This is all just in fun!

Neat idea! We'll be stopping at HMC in about 3 weeks. Will try to remember to bring/bury something. Won't know which cabana # until we're on the ship so will have to report back.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just back from our cruise and happy to report there is now a buried treasure at Cabana #11!

A big thanks to Ziggy7 for starting this thread. We had so much fun putting together the "treasure chest." Our daughter (9) was especially excited so we decided to let her "take the reigns" on choosing what went into it.

First, and a little off topic, Cabana #11 was an absolute perfect fit for us. We originally had hoped for getting number 8, 9, or 10 but those were already taken by the time we arrived at the Shore Excursions desk. We decided to take #11 and we're so glad we did. For no other reason than it's in the shade all day. Unlike 8, 9, and 10 which get hit with some strong direct sun in the afternoon hours. Anyone looking for a shaded cabana that is down the beach away from the big crowds should consider #11. But enough rambling. Where was I? Oh yes! The buried treasure!

The idea is that this could be an ongoing thing that is perpetuated by those playing along. Our hope is that anyone participating will bring a little something to add to the treasure chest in return for removing something. All of the items we included have little to no actual monetary value. But hopefully this will serve as a way to add some excitement to someone's day at the beach.

As I mentioned earlier, DD(9) put this whole thing together.

•She started with a large plastic jar from our local dollar store.

•Next she added a few handfuls of jewels and pearls that we found at our local craft store.....Because really, what's a buried treasure without jewels right?

•She also included some metal skeleton keys and other metal trinkets like skull and crossbones, and some fake metal coins.

•Also some glow stick bracelets that could be fun to where later that night once back onboard the ship

•Some stickers from our home state of NY.

She also included instructions written on a piece of burlap with a sharpie complete with the warning of a curse to any greedy treasure seekers. IMG_1504535541.408131.jpg.fab6f3c33711ba166bef16e744bc79e9.jpg

We buried the treasure just in front of the cabana to the left. IMG_1504535602.359348.jpg.b3d8acfcb5b77abcb2560fe6f1cd46ad.jpg

It can be found under the 2 large rocks in the this photo:IMG_1504535637.063664.jpg.d0320659a73a3fc3fbc2b3b2fd4b6a87.jpg

Last, and perhaps most important. We included a small book to record the date, family/group name if you are so inclined to share, as well as a small area to share what you have to be thankful for. I know, I know, kind of sappy.

Just remembered something! If someone could bring a small cheapo pencil sharpener and put it in the bag with the book and pencils that would be great.

If you decide to participate, whether trying for Cabana #11 or bringing a treasure chest of your own to start at a different cabana. Please come back here to share pics and tell the story of your day at HMC!

Happy trails!!!

Thank you. I will be sure pass along the kind words to our daughter. She truly had a blast putting this together. HMC was day 5 of our trip and she spent days 1,2,3,and 4 reminding us over and over again to remember to bring the treasure chest with us when we tender over to HMC. This was her first cruise and her buried treasure at HMC is no doubt something she will remember for a long time. Can't thank you enough for the great idea.

Choosing our Cabana was a top priority for us so we made a B-line for the Shore Excursions desk as soon as we boarded. We arrived at the desk at around 12:40. The only Cabanas taken at that time were 8, 9, and 10 so we went with #11. Worth. Every. Penny!!!

ETA: so sorry for the poor quality pics in previous post. I had to "dumb them down" to make them fit within Cruise Critic parameters. If anyone knows any tips on how to post better pics on here I would appreciate it.

Thanks for the info, we do not have FTTF and are only gold with Carnival, so was worried we might not get the one or near the location we wanted. Our arrival time is 12:00 so there is hope!

Also I must confess, this was not my idea totally, years ago on the Holland America boards, several of us friends who had many different cruises to HMC started this idea. We had the best time with it, I thought it would be fun to do with Carnival ships!

We will be there.... hopefully.... the first week in October. Will make sure the kids look for and contribute to the treasure hunt. Now to figure out what beach villa to go for... anyone have any suggestions
The villas are for 12- 16 people I believe, there are only a three of them and they are close to each other. If you mean the cabanas, in this album is a map showing the colors and locations for them. There is only differences of location & full sun or Shade. Hope this helps!

Honestly, I think you will be fine. Especially with your 12:00 arrival time. Also, I suppose whomever thought of burying treasures first isn't important in the grand scheme of things. All that matters is that WE'RE BURYING TREASURES!!! LOL. Best of luck getting the cabana of your choosing!

So glad you are playing along! K&T have a rockstar for a mom!!! Hopefully they get as much enjoyment out of it as our kids did! We found it to be a really nice way to break up the day when the kids were starting to get a little "waterlogged" from swimming/playing in that amazing turquoise water.

I don't have any experience with the beach villas (did you mean beach villas or cabanas?) except to say that there are several small groupings of the villas scattered among the cabanas from one end of the beach to the other. For us, the far end of the beach away from where the tender dock is was preferred. There were fewer people and much more room to swim without fear of bumping into others. We did walk down to the near end of the beach (by the lower numbered cabanas) for a little while to snorkel by the wall and spend some time with our 2 year-old on the small play set and water slide that is there. Being down there only reassured us that we made the right decision to choose a cabana at the far end. It was very crowded and there was quite a bit of seaweed in the water. By contrast the area near our cabana had no seaweed at all.

Have fun and if you get a chance come back and share some pics of any treasures you find/bury!

ETA:

A little teaser:

The view from #11 at 3:13pm......just sayin'[emoji41]

We have a large group coming along so we did reserve one of the large Beach Villas.... not the cabanas. Looking forward to it. Hoping we can get one further down the beach away from the crowds. Have several kids in the bunch so this will be fun for them. Now just hoping the island doesn't get to battered within the next few days by Irma. I'll make sure to post some pics if we find anything.

What a great idea! We'll be here on Thanksgiving Day (hopefully), so I have some time to plan this with my 10 year old. He LOVES painted rock hunting and this is along that same theme. I do have FTTF, but I'm still unsure on which cabana to request. We have teenagers and a couple of tweens, so I'm looking for a happy medium.

Awesome, be sure to come back and share your finds and new treasures left behind!

As for location, do you want to be close to the action or do you want to be away from the people. On the map the bottom area is the area with all the people and action. The top area is less people but not much action. More private. Good luck on your choice!

For those wondering about HMC!!! Good News!!!

Carnival John Heald: "News on Half Moon Cay, minimal beach erosion, no major damage, and all horses are well, accounted for and no injuries! Cruises will resume to port there soon, sometime within the next few weeks!"

We will be at HMC on Nov 2 and hoping to participate! Is #11 the only one with treasure so far? We are platinum and have high hopes of picking a cabana in the 9-12 range.

Hi again! (I'm the same person that responds to your hammock question)

Yes, as far as I know #11 is the only one so far. So glad you have decided to play along!

Also, if you're wondering, #11 was perfect for us. It's at the relatively quiet end of the beach, close to restrooms, and the deck was shaded by the surrounding trees well into the afternoon. Whichever cabana you choose, it's sure to be a wonderful day. Enjoy!
