Priority Boarding for Platinum

DH and I have been on ten cruises and we will turn platinum on our upcoming cruise in February! Having never been platinum before and with the new boarding process, how does that work? Do platinum people still need to "pick a time" but can go as soon as the terminal building opens? We will have a big group of family with us (lowly blue and red cards-lol!) I'm assuming they will have to wait to board during their specific check in time. Do we sit in a special waiting room? It will feel kinda weird not sitting with our family, but we earned this perk, right? ;p

The last cruise we took was out of Miami and they weren't policing the check in times at all. We walked right in earlier than our time. Is Port Canaveral stricter? Not that it will matter for us, but I'm thinking of my family.

Platinums can come to port at anytime. They do not have to stick to their selected boarding times like Golds and below, who don’t have FTTF, do. There will be a separate waiting room for Plats and Diamonds. As far as the last question is concerned, I won’t even address that because I don’t really care if they enforce the rules or not, rules are rules and it’s not a difficult concept to follow them like a mature adult.

Congrats on making Platinum, and enjoy!

You must pick a time to complete your boarding documents. Arrive when you wish, go right into the terminal.

There is a priority lounge that’s available. You can all gather in the waiting area together. We never have used the lounge. Yes, you earned this privilege.

The group that will not be priority will be given a zone card when their number is called they board.

You as platinum can board when they call the platinums. Or wait for all in your party to check in and the last zone card for your group is called.

Carnival enforces the check in program. Sometimes you hear from people who have gotten into the terminal earlier than their check in time. You can take a chance, but it could be a long wait for some of your party outside the terminal.

In some ports the "lounge" is only a room with check-in desks, and after you check in you have to go to a separate area in the main terminal to wait for boarding to begin. Even in ports with an actual lounge with seating capacity for passengers, depending on the number of Platinums and Diamonds on a sailing (or if boarding is delayed) they may not have enough room for everyone to wait in the lounge, in which case they will move those already checked in to a separate area in the main terminal to wait for boarding to begin.

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but you will not be Platinum on your upcoming cruise. The good thing is you will be boarding with the rest of your family.

Going by your signature you will still be 5 days shy of achieving that status on your cruise in 2019.

04 days - 1x4 days cruise

05 days - 1x5 days cruise

18 days - 3x6 days cruises

28 days - 4x7 days cruises

08 days - 1x8 days cruise

------------

63 total cruise days taken

07 days - upcoming 7 days cruise

70 days at sea

The benchmark to make platinum is 75 days sailing with Carnival.

just went through Platinum line an hour ago. Just remember if you see a long line -that's the wrong line;p

I saw a long line of people waiting outside in the muggy New Orleans weather and said that ain't it. Carnival personnel are pretty good at directions

Oh, you Jersey gal(?) party pooper! I thought the same thing. We got our daughter in right under the wire on a NYE sailing from here in Galveston to get her to the ten on the last day Carnival was going to honor cruise numbers versus days at sea. She was too young to drink the free alcohol at her first past guest party.

A few times at the Guest Services desk on the first night you can still hear and see those that wanted to be platinum based on sailings.

See ya at sea!

I have sailed out of both Port Canaveral and Miami multiple times this year, and they have been very strict about check-in times. Personally, since I have done it before, if I was sailing with friends and/or family who did not have priority status, I would just sit with them at the terminal and board the ship with them.

Another option is the people travelling with you could purchase FTTF and board the ship right after you. At the current prices I would never purchase FTTF, but there are lots of members on this site who believe FTTF is a must buy.

She has a back to back on January 8, 2017.

I accounted for that. She listed 9 sailed dates, and I listed 10 cruises worth of days plus her upcoming one. Still short if the signature is correct for previous and upcoming cruises.

I was thinking, it would be tough to get to 75 in 10 cruises, unless you did some of the longer cruises. A minimum of 5 7 day cruises and 5 8 day cruises.

She has already been on 10 cruises and will be taking her 11th in 2019. If each cruise was 7 nts., that would make 77 nts, enough for Platinum. I haven't bothered to check to see how long itineraries were for each ship/sail date, but I do know that each of those ships DID do 7 nt, sailings at some point and some of them used to do 8 nt. sailings.

One was a 12-day repositioning cruise

Looking at her reviews, her actual days are:

7 day x 6 = 42

6 day x 2 = 12

4 day x 1 = 4

12 day x 1 = 12

-------------------

total days 70

+ upcoming 7-day

total = 77 days

Using another website's archived roll-call database here's the listing of the cruises associated with those ships and dates that I could find ...

Past Cruises

6 nights Western - Carnival Vista Jan. 7, 2018

5 nights Bahamas - Carnival Sunshine (B2B), Jan. 8, 2017

8 nights Eastern - ^^^(next cruise following 1/8/17)

7 nights Eastern - Carnival Valor, Jan. 2, 2016

6 nights Western - Carnival Freedom, Feb. 2, 2015

7 nights Exotic - Carnival Conquest, Jan. 12, 2014

4 nights Canada - Carnival Glory, June 30, 2013

7 nights Exotic - Carnival Liberty, April 13, 2013

6 nights Western - Carnival Freedom, May 27, 2012

7 nights Bahamas - Carnival Pride, March 27, 2011

SO either the review timelines are incorrect; OR some of the the cruise dates or ships are incorrect on the signature; OR the database has the wrong description for some of those cruises; OR little of each scenario.

Either way the OP will find out 75-90 days prior to departure if they are truly Platinum when they do their online check-in andfinal payment. Once done, their boarding pass and luggage tags will reflect their status.

The Feb 2,2015 Freedom cruise was a repo of 12 days. They switched her dates around, originally the 6 day was Feb 1,2015.

A follow up question: Is it better to pick a later time to complete my check in so I won't "take a spot" of an earlier time for someone that isn't platinum? I think I read that in a thread somewhere on here once.

No, pick the time that you will really be there. That way there won't be more people there during that time slot than they expect - does that make sense? If you pick 1:00, then show up at 11:00, then that's at least 2 more people in the terminal than was signed up for that time. There are times for a reason.

The above is the most reasonable answer. Her boarding pass will say PRIORITY and that will be that.
