Looks like ov is to be relaunched

According to ex OV crew members who have been in Liverpool this weekend on Arcadia it is now becoming a badly kept secret that the Ocean Village brand is to be relaunched. Most likely that one of the P and O fleet will be rebranded with the smart money on Oceana to be the one chosen to become the new Ocean Village.

I know this story has been touted before but this info is from a trusted source and its a pretty obvious decision really as Carnival are concerned about the lost passengers and the hole that was created in the market when the OV ships were sold.

Wow, that is great news if true.. Maybe at last they have come to their senses that some Brits want different things..

I'm guessing Oceana and/or Ventura would be obvious contenders (maybe starting with one and seeing how it sells) with back-filling to P&O trad in 2015 with the new ship?

Fabulous news. I always hoped that one day Carnival would come to their senses. I know a lot of ex OVers have done Ventura and Oceana and whilst feedback has been in the main positive, it just hasn't been the same as Ocean Village :)

Of course nothing will happen for 2 years as 2012 cruises are already on sale!. :(

Pity i missed OV first time around but Ventura might be OK apart from the formal bit which i don't mind but given the choice I would prefer a Ventura without formal.

Yeah its a pity that we will have to wait until the 2013 season but its only 18 months away and will be well worth the wait.

Ive tried both Ventura and Oceana but not at all impressed..just when I've got my Sapphire membership as well;)

Giving Thomsons Spirit a whirl this week and have got a land based holiday in Thailand and Dubai sorting in December so only another year to wait

Hopefully it will restore the clear guidelines. The remaining P&O vessels can have a traditional dining and strict dress code enforcement, OV the freestyle giving UK cruisers a choice and no "misinterpretation of what is expected on each".

This is my fear. I would only be interested in fly cruises and , then, preferably to the Caribbean.

Would never sail out of Soton.

We are back on land-based until this news is confirmed.

Guess the questions that really need to be asked are:

1) Is P&O in its current brand selling its berths available?

2) Can it grow its passenger numbers by 2015 to fill the new ship as well?, if not which ship would they "sell-off" or "transfer"..

Most of Carnivals other lines Princess, Costa, Aida etc.. have NEW ships on order..

That was my point Brian. Can you honestly see the P&O brand gain another hundred thousand cruisers by 2015 to fill the new ship without transferring out a ship to another brand/line..

It definitely won't be Ventura. That is P&O's most popular ship, and it's only 3 years old. It would be like Royal Caribbean suddenly transferring Oasis to Pullmantur. Oceana sounds about right.

If, say, Ventura became OV, what would be the main differences?

Place her in the Med, cut out the formal dining, and introduce freedom dining through out......is there anything else special to OV which would have to be done to her?

Maybe change a few crew cabins to guest cabins as need less crew but yep the only real thing is abolishing dress codes and fixed seating times.. Would imagine they'd still have a waitered main restaurant but anytime turn up a bit like NCL do..

Also Oceana goes in for refit next year just to add to the mix.

The "High Quality Informal Buffet" (as I think it was described) was still the best food Ive had on a cruise by miles and miles. Always fresh, hot(and temperature probed every ten minutes) and if you want a large portion of Beef wellington just ask the server who smiled and obliged.

Not send an order upstairs and it appears 45 minutes later luke warm.

You want alot of roast lamb just tell the man.Plus of course as much veg and salad as you want which was great.

Much less staff costs as well with the buffet which is why OV could afford to keep the tables clean and sanitised(P&O please note).

I hope it returns fly cruise to the med in summer and even if its a bit more expensive than the others who cares, the quality is there.

Oceana would be perfect, just sort out the pub(Square and Compass/frog/??) which is a right dim and unfriendly place. Some nice leather chairs though! The casino/winners bar would need a rethink as well

Bookings can be altered like they did with Oriana when they announced it was going adult only.
