Ocean Medallion on Caribbean Princess

We have the medallion on Caribbean Princess and it obviously is only partially enabled. Just letting folks know how it is working for us - not going to engage in discussions about all the ways CC experts can do it better.

We have our usual Ruiz’s card and the medallion. Two pictures taken when we boarded, by two different people. Slowed the line down a millionth of a second! Two scans when entering muster as well. All medallions are blue, no status indicated.

The medallion opens our cabin door. First couple of times we had to hold it close to the scanner, now it opens when we approach the room. Quite the surprise first time. Scanner is where the “mailbox” used to be. I noticed papers were left on the floor in front of rooms as there is nowhere else to put them.

The medallion works the same as the card did in the casino. No slot, just scan your medallion or card. Don’t have to worry about leaving your card in machine as you never put it in. Cash out is transferred to your account just as it always was.

Some folks were a bit confused when purchasing a drink while sitting on Lido. Card needed for that. Guy next to us went a bit crazy insisting he was going to use his medallion -after three officers came to explain he really got loud and nasty. The only result - took forever for him to get a drink but he enjoyed being “right” and all the attention.

Free internet for duration of cruise if Platinum or Elite. It is much faster than ever was. No I am not going to measure the speed so don’t take the time to ask.

Bottom line - only difference, right now you have to carry both card and medallion. Medallions works for some things, card for others. They gave everyone a free lanyard that has a plastic holder for card and clasp for medallion. Never saw so many passengers with lanyards!

Thanks for the dinner information. You mention “We have our usual Ruiz’s card”. I’ve never heard the expression “Ruiz’s Card”. What is that?

As long as my cruise card does everything that the medallion does why bother carrying it?

It seems redundant.

I have read here that security will confront you if you are not carrying a medallion.

Obviously, I don't believe everything I read here. :)

A little more info - if you are willing to part with a few bucks, the accessories to carry your medallion are available at the photo shop. Wristbands start at 24.95. Bracelet was significantly more. Didn’t ask about the other stuff. The free lanyard works just fine. Not a lanyard gal so my pocket is working fine. My door unlocks as I approach the stateroom so I am happy, simple thing but sometimes it is the simplest things that are fun.

Cute medallion T-shirt on display in the photoshop. Asked how much and was given one free! Can’t beat that price.

I like the way Princess is testing the system. Starting with easy stuff, letting you carry both card and medallion or just the card. Those that decide not to participate can put the medallion in a drawer and ignore it. No problem, no judgement. Passengers have a choice which makes most happy.

So, in regards to

Some folks were a bit confused when purchasing a drink while sitting on Lido. Card needed for that. Guy next to us went a bit crazy insisting he was going to use his medallion -after three officers came to explain he really got loud and nasty. The only result - took forever for him to get a drink but he enjoyed being “right” and all the attention.

was this guy trying to use his 'device' (phone/pad) to order a 'here and now' drink feature of the *****, or just wanted to give a waiter/server his ***** instead of his card?

can you use the ***** while sitting at the pool bar?, but not at the loungers?

There is no here and now feature enabled. Once again very few features enabled as they slowly roll out and test the technology.

“This guy” was clearly trying to be difficult which is his right. No idea if medallion can be used at the bar since I have never bought anything at a bar on a ship. I am sure someone will chime in and answer this question.

Where did you see them for sale with the pricing? I was just down at Ocean Front and they are definitely not for sale right now. I couldn't find the prices listed anywhere, either. Did I miss it?

They are for sale right before Club Fusion - when the temporary desk (across from the display) is staffed. Don’t know the hours, princess dancers are staffing the desk.

That's where I was this morning, at OceanFront. They have the Navigators stationed there to answer questions and the accessories are on display there, but are not for sale yet. And no prices that I could see. Did one of the dancers tell you the price?

Just got off CB on Saturday. I hate wearing things around my neck and only carried the medallion for the first two days (in my pocket). Until they enable more features it's just more of a burden than anything else. It didn't work well to open the door when it was in my pocket and had to pull it out for the door to open. Staff didn't care whether you had it with you or not.

I didn't visit the shops but would have purchased the wristband carrier if I had seen one.

Currently onboard the CB. ***** supposed to be fully functional by end of September.

You can either use your card or ***** in bars. You MUST use your card to get on and off the ship. ***** not set up for that yet.

No accessories are for sale yet. They are on display only. They are giving out free t-shirts if you show a lot of interest and hang around but they are running out of what they were given or sometimes just ask.

Works great opening your cabin.

Yea, right. I'll believe that when & if.....:D

Me, spend $25 to advertise their ship.

I don't thing so.

That sounds expensive, but you are getting a lot of ugly for the price.

This looks like something an elementary school child would wear.

Really, that would PROVE my point that they are tracking me like a puppy and time to leave Princess.

Of course they are right now only with the ***** they'll be able to know where you are & how much money you spending per minute.

Keep your spending high & they won't bother you except send more adds to entice you to spend more. :D
