Touring Malaysia from Singapore

We have decided that we wish to take this Viator tour from Singapore to Malaysia. We want to do this pre-cruise next March. The issue is that we don't want to book a non-refundable tour 10 months early if we had to cancel for some reason.

The flip side is that the tour may fill up and we would miss the tour.

Has anyone taken this tour or one of the other Viator tours to Malaysia out of Singapore?

If so, how was the tour?

How long before the tour did you book it?

Itinerary $ 397.09

Day 1: Singapore – Malacca (L)

Begin your tour with pickup from your Singapore hotel by your guide and driver. You’ll be transferred to the train station for a 2.5-hour train ride across the causeway and into the Malaysian state of Johor.

As you travel by rail through the rural countryside, pass fruit and vegetable plantations. You’ll disembark in the city of Kluang before continuing 2.5 hours by coach to Malacca. Arrive in time for lunch, followed by a historical walking tour of Malacca City, whose city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Discover Malacca’s history, culture, heritage and Dutch influences as you visit sites such as St Paul’s Hill, Porta De Santiago, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Jonkers Street, also known as Antique Street. Your knowledgeable guide will provide interesting information about the sites you visit.

For dinner, your guide will provide great recommendations on places to enjoy an authentic meal.

Overnight: 4-Star Hotel Equatorial or similar in Malacca

Day 2: Malacca – Kuala Lumpur (B, L)

After breakfast, you’ll drive 2 hours north to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Your tour of this city will cover sites such as the National Palace, the National Museum, the National Monument (sculptured by the creator of the Iwo Jima monument in Washington, DC), the National Mosque, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Royal Selangor Club. You’ll also pass by the Petronas Twin Towers, the two second-tallest buildings in the world!

You’ll be served an authentic Malaysian lunch at midday, and then enjoy free time for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Overnight: 4-Star Hotel Istana or similar in Kuala Lumpur

Day 3: Kuala Lumpur – Singapore (B)

After breakfast, enjoy a free day until you hop on the coach in the afternoon to travel back to Singapore, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel.

Good morning 4774Papa,

thought you might have been doing this before our Japan Cruise, then realised the dates are wrong :p

I have not done this tour, but wonder if you will spend a long time travelling by train and bus.

Malaysia is very hot and humid, and I did not find buses a particularly pleasant way to travel.

Unless you particularly want to go to Malacca, another suggestion would be to fly from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, there are frequent flights with several airlines including Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines , Air Asia, Firefly and the flight takes around 50 minutes.

Spend a couple of nights in a hotel and tour from there.

All the major hotels have travel desks and you can do a particular tour or you can hire a car/van and tour as you please.

Anne,

Thanks for the input. We would prefer to go by train and bus rather than fly. You see more of the country that way. Also, we are from the South (USA) and familiar with humid heat. Also, not too keen on flying on Malaysian Airlines right now.

I have researched tours from Singapore to Malaysia and tours of Malaysia and not found many. This viator tour is the best.

hello again,

glad to know you are used to the heat and humidity, we are from a much cooler climate and find it quite a challenge

I can quite understand your reluctance to fly Malaysia Airlines.

Malaysia is a beautiful country , people are very friendly, and the food is fabulous, and if you like a little shopping, you might need some extra luggage!!!

Your tour sounds very comprehensive, and I am sure you will really enjoy it,

Anne.
