  1. 1. How much were your "extras" per couple at the end of 7 nights' cruise?

Just got off the Millennium with a bill for $1000.00 for my husband and myself-- spa treatments, shore excursions, photos, bar tab and the like. Just wondered if we're about "average". What about you? how much do you usually spend for two people per 7 nights? (Incidentally, we paid 550.00 per person for an inside cabin so our "extras' were almost the same as our fare!)

I would say that is pretty much in line with what we have experienced. I've seen posts here from people who's BAR BILL alone was more than that. Since we are not big drinkers, it doesn't come close as a comparison, but for other things like you mentioned, photos, excursions, spa, etc. that would be about the same.

Celebrity never charged our credit card for expenses on our last cruise. Our bill was only about $600 for a 12 day cruise. I don't know what happened, they just never charged us. I even called the office a few months after the cruise and let them know. Instead of thanking me for being honest, they just said "OK, we'll make sure you get charged". But they never did, and it's been a year now.

I'm a solo cruiser, but my charges usually run between $500 - $1000, closer to the $1000. That usually includes a couple of spa treatments as well as souvineers and drinks. I love the martinis onboard and usually have wine with dinner.

My DH gets a little (or a lot!) upset with me when I tell someone we got a great price for a cruise. He always points out that we paid $xxx for tips, $xxx for photos, $xxx for this and that in addition to the cruise I quoted. He is right of course, but I say the base price is the comparing amount, not the total spent on the entire cruise. But we cruise so I let him get away with it some. If the base price is good, that is what I count.

Whoops I almost forgot. We have been as low as $180 and higher than $1000. It depends from cruise to cruise.

We managed to fall in the $200-$500 range on our 9-night Century cruise. That included charging most of the tips to our accounts, corkage fee, a couple of drinks per day, and use of the thalassotherapy pool. If you add in the cost of the wine we brought on the ship and the excursions we did on our own, we get bumped up to the next range.

Last year on Summit to Alaska our bill was 321$ we did have on board credits plus refund from Captains Club $50 and The $25 off the Specialty dinner. This was rather unusual for us.DH has learned some tricks to lower our bill and has learned not to start drinking at breakfast. Our highest bill was over $1000.We are going on a 12 night this year,so only time wil tell.

Our final bill on our last seven day cruise for THREE people (2 adults and 1 toddler) was $74.30.

But didn't you say previously that you refuse to tip and don't drink and didn't plan to eat in the Specialty Restaurant, and refused to buy any of the photographs, and brought your own soda, and refused to go into the casino? I can't imagine what you managed to spend $74.30 on! :D

Ours is probably in the $1,000 to $1,500 range, but my wife indulges herself with some kind of spa treatment almost every day. Of course, if you add in the casino (although we usually win) and if we find something we like at the art auctions, it can go much higher. Our highest was on a Mediterranean cruise in 2001, when our bill was $4300 at the end of the cruise. But that did include some very pricey, but well-worth-it excursions to Rome, the Amalfi Coast, etc. and we bought four or five pieces of art.

The OP asked what was our extras as far as the final bill and I shared them. I think our Infinity cruise had a final bill in the $250-300 range.

:) :) Lakelodge and I were on the same cruise, since we have been to all the islands that were on this itenary it was not necessary to spend on shore excursions and since we are in our 70s we dont drink a lot. We had a $100.00 credit and 3 bottles of champain in our cabin we did not have a large bar bill at the end of the cruise. We gave all of our servers more than the suggested amount of tips in cash so that the final bill charged to our account was $9.80 for some cognac in the theater the last night. We are not turned on by spas and can not sit 3 hours in the specialty resturants.

Interesting topic, particularly for Newbies. Hard to come up with a $ figure, as it varies from cruise to cruise, but here's some general comments.

Generally, we try to economize without skimping. We tip at least the recommended amount. We do not buy ship photos (but have other couples take pictures of us on our camera). I don't drink alcohol and wife drinks sparingly, so we average about $10 per day for beverages. I usually "budget" about $100 for the casino, and the same for spa services. We don't buy a bunch of t-shirts or other souvenirs. If on M class, we like the specialty restaurant at least once per cruise.

With rare exception, we book our own excursions. This is one area where we are willing to make up for not spending too much elsewhere. Usually, we save quite a bit doing our own thing, but typically splurge on one special excursion each cruise. For example, we did the dolphin swim one year, the America's Cup race a couple times, and have almost $600 obligated for one day in Juneau next year (whale watching in morning and helicopter tour in PM).

For the first several cruises, we had OVs and verandas, but recently tried an inside cabin. I loved it and wife is OK with it, and the savings will enable us to cruise more often.

We also usually drive to East coast ports of departure, and use Priceline for hotels.

While we are certainly blessed to be able to cruise occasionally, we have to watch our money, and find that keeping an eye on the "extras" and economizing in other ways pays off in more time doing our favorite thing.

Thanks for the topic and all who have contribute.

Hi All!

This IS a useful subject! We are spending 10 wonderful days on Infinity this June. San Fran to Vancouver, Inside Passage. DH and I were on Veendam 2 summers ago, but our tab was very confusing. We had missed the ship in Seattle and were flown to Ketchikan 2 days later to catch up with the ship. So, to make a long story short:) we had credits on our account for the days missed, but also some charges not covered during the two days.

This trip I will not use spa services. The friends we are traveling with have great cameras, and we have booked shore adventures months ago independently. It should be very interesting to see the bottom line. We got a great price on the cruise, including air from Boston. I'm thinking $100 per day.

I will check my account each night and if we are not there....PARTY Sat night!

Okay, I'm embaressed to say this but on our last cruise, Constellation 12/11/04 our bill was $1800!!! We are pretty big drinkers especially on vacation and we had two trips to Ocean Liners with several bottles of wine. also had a bottle of wine at every dinner at San Marco. However, in checking my bill just now I found a $206 charge for "Guest Relations" that I can't remember what it was???? I need to start checking our account daily and I will next time! Oh yeah, we had some excursions, spa trips etc sprinkled in with the bill also.

Hi:) looks like Terri and I are the only solo crusiers to reply.

I do drink and gamble a little bit. I rarely use the spa. I wish I could recall my bill from last month. I think it was in the 350.00 range. That is for ON BOARD charges. Last month I actually did treat myself to a massage and had a pedicure. The pedicure is now a "usual charge" for me. I never get one here at home but I like it on the ship.

I pay for my excursions prior to sailing (on the web). And I bring the cash for tips and put it away.

I don't buy the ship's photos. There are lots of them from my disposable every time though:D

I would say the highest % of my charges are adult beverages. Drinks during the day, pre-dinner martinis every evening and wine at dinner.

Gosh, I always sound like such a lush on a cruiseship;)

Onboard charges vary, depending on if I am sailing alone or sharing the cabin with a friend. I tend to spend more when the friend that I travel with is along; my arm can sometimes be twisted to have another martini!:) We always, however, establish separate accounts because we have very different spending preferences.

I pay for excursions in advance, if possible. I visit the ATM the last day of the cruise to obtain tip funds to in cash. I plan on about 20 dollars a day for tipping.

The least I have ever had billed to my shipboard account is $120.00 on a six night sailing; it was over the holidays so I was more conscious of my spending and I was sailing solo so I did not as large of a bar bill as I might have had otherwise. I did no gambling and did not visit the spa, so my expenses shipboard, with tips calculated in, were just over $250. I spent an additional $300 in ports on some nice family presents since it was holiday time.

On the June Bermuda sailing, my shipboard account was about 300 dollars. I had a larger bar bill and spent around $80 in the gift shop onboard. I did practically no shopping in port, just bought a few inexpensive gifts and for around $30 and spent about $50 in Triminghams. With tips included in the total, I spent right around $600.

Twelve night repositioning was my first Celebrity cruise and I spent around $350 on the shipboard account and tipped about 250 dollars. I spent $500 in ports on some silver jewelry and 2 excursions that we booked on-site.

On the last cruise, my shipboard account was 532 dollars. I allowed 250 dollars in cash for tips. I had my hair done twice... 90 with tip included. Purchased two excursions beforehand that totaled 220 dollars, but onethat was around $60 was cancelled and given back as a shipboard credit. I splurged on a spa visit at Visage in Roatan and bought some gifts there, so that added another 300 dollars to the total for the trip. Additionally, five hundred dollar bills left with me, one came home. I am not going to even total it this time..... I don't want to know. Next time... I am sticking to a budget! LOL! :D

WOW! You should write a travel book. Did you have any fun?

I don't really like to talk about this. It's the part I (and the cruise line) would rather not plan for. Totally destroys the fantasy......look honey I can get a CC for two weeks on the Zenith for $1000.00pp! That's when she chimes in plus $2000.00+ for your onboard account. I love her but she can be such a drag sometimes!
