Canuker Posted July 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2018 Leaving NYC in less than a week and I can find nothing from Cunard (TAs, yes but they vary) about when the ship will leave port. Ditto the return from Southampton. A;; I haver is their designated embarkation time. If I don't get a definitive answer here, I'll phone them and see what they say. cruiseluvva Posted July 1, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2018 They don’t normal publicise departure times.
Shuffleboard Dude Posted July 1, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2018 QM2 usually leaves at 1700 from New York and arrives in Southampton at 0630 seven nights later. This may not hold true for your crossing, but it is the usual schedule.
alibabacruisers Posted July 3, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2018 I like to check the website cruise TT and according to that QM2 departs at 1700 from NYC and Southampton. I also try to check the port cruise ship schedules and the Southampton site also says 1700. Hope this helps a little.
Canuker Posted July 3, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted July 3, 2018 (OP): Yes it does help; thank you. But it would be nice to get it from the horse's mouth. I suppose Cunard wants us to focus on their assigned embarkation time, rather than the ship's departure time. But 1 It does make to- and from- the ship travel planning hit & miss. 2. What about those who are using the ship's turn-around day as their only 'port day'. They need to know when they can get off and when they should return, again to help plan their brief spell on terra firma. 3. I know of no other cruise line with this policy. Rant over. kentchris Posted July 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2018 3. I know of no other cruise line with this policy. The secrecy about port times seems to be a Carnival UK thing since P&O are as bad as Cunard.
exlondoner Posted July 4, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2018 Presumably they got fed up with people moaning that they didn't leave or arrive when they said they were going to. Given the moaning skills of a minority of Cunard passengers, it's hard to blame them. Jane
Host Hattie Posted July 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2018 I have also heard security mentioned as a reason for not publishing times but that's not very convincing as most cruise ports publish the times online. I have also heard that they will tell you if you call but I haven't tried it myself.
majortom10 Posted July 4, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 4, 2018 No the real reason is they dont want to know in advance what times you arrive and depart in ports so you cannot pre book cheaper excursions with private tour companies they want you to book their excursions at a higher cost. LadyVol1 Posted July 4, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 4, 2018 I have also heard that they will tell you if you call but I haven't tried it myself. In order to plan my own excursions I called and was given the port times but the rep told me at least four times that they could change.... Host Hattie Posted July 4, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 4, 2018 In order to plan my own excursions I called and was given the port times but the rep told me at least four times that they could change....Thanks, that makes sense. We've had a few changes over the years, including late departures from New York due to late arriving flights.
