military rate question

Can someone please explain the military rate to me? How does it go up or down? I thought it was a set rate that was offered for people that serve/served. How does it work out ?

2 years or more served in the Armed Forces, the discount is usually around 300.00 off, you will need to fax them a copy of your active military ID or your DD-214.

The discount varies from ship to ship, and also on the different rooms. There is a limited number per ship..

There is a travel web site that carries the different discounted rates (not available to say which), but its initials are vtg...search for cruises and military rates...

Also, if you call in to carnival, and inquire on specific sailings...they can let you know..

Book early. My Dh and I are booked on the Miracle for 1-10-08, military rate, booked about 3 months ago..military rate sold out about 1 month or so ago.

we are currently at $200 pp less than stated rate (which has gone up).

This is exactly the part that loses me. Miitary rate goes up/down? I was thinking it was a just like a flat rate, you know x amount off, and that's it, but it goes up/down? Help me understand that part please.

Most of the travel search engines are now showing Military rates. I was looking at a cruise. When I was looking it had a res. rate popped up and I booked it at $309 for IS. When I went back to book another cabin it no longer showed the res. rate and showed $189 for military. A couple days later the military rate showed but, was now $209

So am I correct in understanding that the military rate fluctuates?

Just like a roller coaster.

Our last Military rate was $650 off the original price.

The cruise we just booked was only $350 off, same cat, same cabin:confused:

But we just keep checking to see if there will be another drop in the Military rates, it's supply in demand.

Yo-

We recently got off the Carnival 'Spirit' 12 day Hawaii cruise-

Our Military Rate started at $1021 + tax ($79.45) - for a 5A outside obstructed with the french doors on deck 4 - and eventually got down to $649 + same tax-

So - the answer is 'yes' and be sure to have a good cruise t/a that works well with Carnival (vtg) and you will reap the rewards that are there for the taking-eh!!

Happy Cruisin'

We booked a 5-day over Christmas on Celebration. I got all excited when I learned they were offering the military rate on this cruise, but in VERY limited numbers. We ended up only getting $70 off p/p, but with four of us going that adds up to a nice excursion or a LOT of cocktails in the casino. LOL Although the prices have gone up since we booked, so we paid about $125 less than what its going for now.

I'm already looking at the discount rates for a sailing next fall.
