"Exclusive embarkation..."

Can anyone tell me, please, what the "exclusive embarkation" is for

AMEX platinum card holders?

I am not an Amex cardholder, but from other pthreads posted on these boards, you are entitled to priority embarkation, like the Platinum Cunard World Club Members and Grill passengers.

Tha'ts all I know, try doing a search on American Express Platinum Embarkation on these boards.

Karie,

who will be Platinum, after her next cruise!

I've got to tell you, covey, but the priority boarding didn't mean a thing on our QM2 cruise two weeks ago. The problem was really due to security (or so we were told.) Once we got through the security -- we were told our Grill status wouldn't become important until we went through security and up to the actual check-in. The only difference in the embarkation procedure I saw was the efficiency with which I saw the Brittania line move as opposed to the Grill passengers who were herded through the lines like cattle.

We waited for a couple of hours outside the building, inside with grossly misinformed port workers, and increasingly angry passengers of all stripes and flavors.

Judy -- whose laptop stopped the security line at the metal detectors.

I am an AMEX Platinum Card holder...this sounds too good to be true...2moose when did this happen? Were you a Grill passenger or a Platinum Platinum world club member? I will be stuck in the Brittania line....where did you see the VIP booth...was it obvious?

we just returned from the dec 9 sailing of the qm2 this was our 4th sailing on cunard 2 on the qe2 and 2 on the qm2 and each time we were treated royally and invited to use the vip line because of the amex platinum card. it is the same booth for grill pax tell the person supervising the lines that you are platinum and i'm sure they will treat you just as well! many many many benefits to the platinum card if you make the effort to use it right! after all you paid for it!!

as to the black card some have mentioned in this thread i dont qualify for one but i do know some one that has one and thats a whole different approach private jets, private yachts and no lines as well!!! best regards to all!!!

by the way the dec 9 cruise was magnificent no matter which line you are in!!! seems that each cruise gets better than the one before if thats possible!!

yes we have been in the p-grill and this time were upgraded to the q -grill but thats not why we recieved better treatment as they didnt know what cabin we were in !!! the only informationn i gave to the lady was that my wife is a amex platinum member and she led us to the vip desk/line or whatever and it has worked 4 times 3 in nyc and this time in FLL best regards

Just to clarify, does it matter whether you used the Amex Platinum to book? I have one, but perhaps stupidly booked through an agent. Thanks!

not sure but we have done both t/a and direct with cunard but always paid with the amex platinum card and recieved the best treatment!!!!

Well, I can't really comment as I have never tried to get priority by means of Amex, but I understand it doesn't work in Southampton - or at least Amex say this. I think. I'll check tomorrow.......

It's academic for me as I always travel Queens' Grill, but even if I didn't, I'm a Platinum WC member.

I can't see why having a particular card should get you priority in a queue though.

amex has tremendous financial influence in all areas and amex platinumtravel service even more so. pts will produce reservations where others cannot i.e top resturants and resorts that are not available to the public. i.e could not get reservations at sandylane in barbados until pts called and booked 5 nites immediately. never been to south hampton so i cant speak to that issue.. but in the pts brochures it always states priority embartkation on cunard for platinum card holders and usually a room credit and/or an upgrade of some sort!!! best regards

The AmEx perks only apply to the standard platinum cars (the one that costs $300 per year), not to cobranded or cash rebate cards.

Julia (who has a non-perk worthy AmEx)

THATS CORRECT JULIA THERE IS A $ 375 FEE EACH YEAR AND INCLUDES A FREE GOLD CARD FOR A FAMILY MEMBER NO CHARGE!!!!

We were on the Dec. 2 Caribbean cruise on QM2. Booked through TA, paid with Amex platinum. TA arranged for the $300 onboard credit, no problem. I believe you DO have to pay using that card, but don't have to book through Amex. Call your TA and explain, they should be able to take care of it.

Was looking forward to priority boarding, but no one that I asked at the terminal knew anything about it. My understanding was that one should have the same boarding privileges as World Club Platinum members - when I asked for boarding for WC platinum members, the only person that didn't just shrug their shoulders pointed me toward the main cattle call line. No big deal to me (we ended up meeting some fantastic people in line and ran into them a number of times on the ship), but If I'd taken a dozen trips with them and earned the WC level, I would have been a little irritated.

As with many things Cunard, it seems to be hit or miss...

i booked the dec 9 cruise directly

thru cunard then called pts and recieved a $ 300 credit directly to my amex

account. the reason i booked directly was that we recieved an offer we couldnt refuse via e mail at 6:00 am one morning. if i waited for my t/a im sure the offer would have vanished and i explained that to amex pts. when i called cunard reservations to book the great offer the cunard agent said it wasnt in thier computers yet so they booked me at the regular price and called me bACK AT 9:00AM to say i got the great price!!!fort lauderddale embarkation leaves a lot to be desired compared to nyc!! i hope you enjoyed your cruise as much as we did.. each time we sail it only gets better but no more fll embarkations for us. we will stick with nyc!! best regards

I am interested in knowing why Fort Lauderdale embarkation is below par compared to NYC. I will soon be travelling out of FL, and would appreciate any tips regarding embarkation procedures there. I will be joining the short cruise to St. Thomas on Jan/6. Do you think there will be immigration bureaucracy to be dealt with (given that St. Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands and no other port will be visited)? Thanks.

Cunard UK and American Express Centurion UK know nothing about these perks. Centurion are getting back to me tomorrow in case they can suggest anything.

I'll post anything of interest.

upon arriving at the cunard terminal there was a long line just prior to noon time that was being overseen by a chap in cunard uniform named allan or perhaps alayn who was not very pleasant.. also there was no signage indicating where to line up. then the fun began!! alan once the line had formed with about 150 people told every one to walk to the far end of the terminal wheel chairs walkers and o2 tanks included.. then once every one gathered at the far end of the terminal alan after a few minutes told everyone to walk to the other far end of the building which is where we just walked from wheel chairs/walkers and mo2 tanks included.. when someone tried to politely tried to express an opinion to alan he became rude and obnoxious!!! later upon approaching the inside waiting area everyone was made to walk passed the closest entry doors and walk to the far end entry even though the precessing area was adjacent to the closest entry doors!!!! im in excellent condition and dont mind the walking back and forth but there was many people that this was a true hardship and quite frankly uncalled for!! based on other threads i read that the embarkation on dec 2 was far worse but i dont remember the details

also upon arriving and departing the fll air terminal my wife and i had our carry ons searched in a,private room only because my wife was carrying a large amount of her personal jewelry. this has never happened at any other airport we travelled!!! also the baggage handlers at the ship terminal were terrible slow no cunard luggage tags the nyc steveadors(spelling) would put them to shame!!! so in my opinion welcome to red neck florida!!! we will sail out of nyc from now on !!! bonvoyage p.s our cruise was wonderfull except for the ground experience

Hey! As a former native Floridian, AND native Tennessean (born in Tennessee, mainly raised in Florida) I resent that stereotypical prejudicial remark!

They're not called Rednecks. (Floridians rarely have red necks. They are lily white as they go from airconditioned home to airconditioned school to air conditioned mall to air conditioned office- Only the tourists have red necks.)

Nope, what your are referring to is what we Floridians call Crackers. You know, Florida Crackers- It's the term for a white-necked person with red-necked tendencies in Florida

I have never EVER been treated that way in FLL (Port Everglades) and I have cruised out of there many times. I can only think that this man was incompetent and did not know what he was doing, or else he was sadistic, enjoying hos power over others- pitiful soul!

Karie,

who might have made a stink about the mistreatment of the handicapped. I do that, you know! I will often just step in when this kind of thing happens to those least able to defend themselves.
