Plantar Fasciitis SHOES for Southern Caribbean??

Hi! Help! Need Plantar Fasciitis shoes!! Can anyone recommend any SPECIFIC shoes/sandals/flip-flops (that are at least semi-hip/stylish/cool looking) for walking around the islands in the Caribbean - that are Plantar Fasciitis-friendly?? I get really HOT, and I do NOT want to have to wear sturdy running shoes with socks the whole time! :(

I wear Orthoheel, I know they get great reviews from people who have plantar fasilitis and I believe they are suposed to cater to that. I love them, and while some of their styles are not total fashion they do have a LOT more fashionable options this year.

Might be worth a look? They have a large selection on their site, and you can buy them on 6pm.com, zappos, and one of the tv shopping channels (forget which one.)

QVC carries Orthaheel and they get great reviews from the customers.

I had a terrible case of PF two years ago and I'm terrified it will come back.

So when I'm not wearing my shoes with my orthotics, I wear either Orthaheel or Fitflops.

I never thought I'd be able to wear flip flops again but I can!

Also, for the pool or beach where I need something that won't get ruined by water I have a pair of Montrail flip flops that you heat in the oven and then step in so they form to your feet.

These are not good for a lot of walking but I can wear them for a good while and not be in pain.

Another Orthaheel fan here! I've gotten a few pairs from QVC. Be warned that if you have wide feet you have to watch, so will work some won't. I also bought my son a pair of the flip-flops, he wears orthotics due to a stress fracture from track so these are great for him.

Something else you can do if you really have PF issues: buy some KT tape. You can do some preventative taping to help avoid being in pain on your trip. The tape comes in 10 colors and is pre-cut. If you go to their website (kttape dot com), they have instructional videos on how to apply the tape for different injuries, including PF. I used it while rehabbing a bad leg injury and they wanted to prevent PF issues. It's pretty easy to do. I think it would be worth it for you to try.

Do your stretching exercises! They showed you how, right? Makes all the difference in the world!!!!

I second FitFlops! They are very thick soled and provide a lot of arch support.

Hello~ I work for 7 Orthopedic Surgeons and even though you do not care for hot sneaker shoes with socks to be walking around in the islands, those are the BEST for your feet and PF.....:o...Nike's at that.....just saying.....

This is what they recommend to all patients who come in with this Dx. I too have PF.... no severe, but IT IS there!...I never travel w/o my Nikes if I plan to do that much walking. They have very thin ankle-biters out there and i wear them with the Nikes.

I leave the "cute sandals" for night time and walking through out the ship.

Hi , I can relate to your problem. I am currently dealing with PF and it's no fun. I had it before in both feet (many years ago , and was able to be rid of it for a long time). I am seeing a specalist and starting my PT tomorrow. Faithfully doing my streching excersizes. I went out and got a new pair of New Balance with good support , am hopeing that I will be doing much better soon. It is hard to keep up with my 2 yr old granddaughter and 4 year old grandson when I am limping around. I know I am going to need to ware the not so cute shoes on our land tour before our next cruise in Sept. and just keep the cute shoes for around the ship. Oh well , at least I will be cruising. :)

I just wear my Crocs flats and flip flops etc, because they are comfortable in the heat, and suck it up when my feet hurt because of the plantar fasciitis.

My birkenstocks are brilliant for PF, and some the sandals are quite glam (comparatively!).

Any flat shoe is bad for plantar fasciitis. You need a minimum heel height of one inch (this is from the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine).

Fit Flops, Teva mush or Cobian flip flops work for me. One thing about the Cobian though - sometimes it can slip on slick surfaces.

I have PF, wide feet & custom orthotics. I have good luck with the "Propet" brand. They have some new Mary Jane looking sneakers. Also wear "Spenco" flip flops. Pretty decent prices on Amazon

I can personally recommend ABEO brand -- they have many styles specifically made for PF and they have a great range of colors, heel heights, etc. Best of all, they WORK! Pricey, but well made and very durable. I have the Laguna and Balboa and i won't cruise without them. If there is a Walking Company store near you, they can do a free custom fitting to get the best footbed for your situation. Good luck!

I had PF and had it surgically corrected. Best decision ever! I recommend Fit Flops, too.

My son is a board certified podiatrist and I work in the office. Best to get custom made orthotics from a podiatrist- not the over the counter one's. Insert them into your shoes. While I understand you do not want to wear running shoes, you truly need to support your arches. Never wear sandles that are flat or any shoe without good arch support. Best not to walk without shoes also.

I wear thin socks with my sneakers when traveling. New Balance works for many. Best to sweat a little and avoid pain.

Algeria shoes work for me, and for flip flops I wear volatile. Since switching to these brands, my PF is gone! Had it very bad on one foot, and minor on the other... Good luck!

I've had PF - took a year to get over it and I still have to be careful to stretch every morning before getting out of bed. Realized I have to have great arch support so have tossed all my old shoes and am slowly rebuilding my shoe closet. Great shoes for PF:

Birkenstock - very comfy once they mold to your feet but I find the look of their sandals "clunky"

Finn Comfort - expensive $150 - $250 range, but worth it, most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, have a cork insole that molds to the shape of your foot, great arch support, they have some very attractive and fashionable sandals as well as some nice dressy shoes. I've found good prices on E-bay.

Naot and Ziera also make some nice looking "comfort" shoes and sandals with good support.

Alegria - very fashion forward, cute - trendy, some wild vibrant colors and designs, nurses and others on their feet all day love them, less expensive than above named brands

Oofos - not a lot of color choice, basic slide or thong design but made from a comfy "foam" type material that absorbs shock and has good arch support, inexpensive and great beach/pool shoe

Dux by Chung Shi - similar rubber foam to Oofos, very lightweight, like walking on a cloud, look like Crocs but with much better arch support, great beach/pool shoe, wide variety of fun colors, reasonably priced. I wear mine around the house a lot.

I have horrible PF. So bad that my doctor had to put me in braces so I could actually walk in the morning when I got out of bed. I swear by ABEO footwear. They are made for people with PF. I have cute day to day sandals and then waterproof sandals also. You can find them at the Walking Company or online. I haven't had to wear those dreadful braces since I started buying the ABEO. The are not cheap, but being pain free is worth every penny!!!

I have had PF for the past year, flares up every now and then. I have been wearing Rockport and have about 6 pairs in all different styles. Great support and they seem to keep the Pf at bay. Do do they stretching exer., helps greatly. Good luck and have a great cruise.:)

I too had PF for 10 plus years!! I saw specialists and had custom orthotics made and bought shoes that were $250 :eek:. I still suffered every day! DH would take me to the mall and I could only spend 45 minutes to an hour on my feet. Ate Advil like it was candy!!

I kept seeing an ad on TV for a place called "Good Feet". So one day I went to their store in Clearwater, FL to find out if they could help me, because I thought I would have PF for the rest of my life! I ended up spending almost $500 on three pair of inserts for my shoes that had varying degrees of support for my feet. I will tell you that the lady at the store said that they would change my life! I was skeptical, to say the least, but I was desperatefor any relief.

We'll they HAVE changed my life and I no longer have active PF but I still wear the inserts in every shoe I put on my feet, including the new boots with 5 inch heels that I bought last week. I have not been able to wear any heel over about an inch and a half for almost 10 years, but have recently been able to wear high heels again.

You can also find the least aggressive inserts being sold in the spa on most cruise ships. At least stop and let them give you a demo. I know your saying, yeah sure, but you have to try them to believe them. It took 9 months to a year for my PF to go away completely but I do not wake up anymore in the morning and fear getting out of bed and putting my feet on the floor.

I had double PF release surgery in Dec and can still barely walk well after some time. Going to PT and hoping for the best on my surgery next month
