Bluetooth speakers on Oasis

So wife and I were on Oasis for Sept. 2nd 7 night cruise a couple of weeks ago and saw ( or should I say heard) a 1st....people playing music over Bluetooth speakers at the pool. We have cruised a lot and have never seen so many people playing their music over speakers while the band was playing, at the pool bar and anywhere they pretty much felt like it. To be honest it wasn't even good music, it was loud and annoying to say the least. Maybe I'm old school, but I really have a problem when a person is blaring music at the pool and every other word is F this and F that, then the N word, it was pretty crazy. Who does that?

I am a 46 year old man with kids in their early 20's so I get the music, it is just the pool on a cruise ship with mixed company, is not the place to blare that music. At one point I asked the bartender how they let people do that, and he basically said they didn't care. Towards the end of the week a few more people brought out their speakers figuring to compete for the music space I guess, but it only made it worse. Nothing like the band coming out to play and the only thing you can hear is the blaring of gangster rap mixed in with country music. My wife had to keep asking my not to say anything to them as she didn't want to start any issues or make a problem worse.

At the pool is BS. That's a public place. I can see using one on your balcony, or in your room. (I've done this myself) Public spaces should be off limits, IMHO.

Agreed. People need to be aware of those around them. I know.... I know... "it's my cruise and I'll do what I want," but it's MY cruise too. And I don't want to listen to your music choices on the pool deck, on MY balcony that I ALSO paid a premium for, or my Cabin through the walls while I'm trying to rest quietly.

Earphones are cheap, plentiful, and solve the problem. Or keep the volume down when you know others are around.

I think it will be a matter of time before Royal with have to do something about it. It will only create problems down the road, and I can easily see fights happening as a result....lets face it, pool, cocktails, sun and pride all mixed in and sooner or later someone will take it upon themselves to police the situation and it will hit the fan.

A strategically placed splash of water from the pool will silent the speaker.

Seriously though I have been successful In having ship management remove these from public areas.

I agree with the OP. It's rude to play loud music, especially if offensive, in a very public place. I just wish the bands would play more music and play longer. Back in the "good ole' days" it seems the bands played all day long. And they played great music. Now it seems hit or miss and there is more often silence than there is music.

Bring back the reggae!!!!

This is happening everywhere. We have been doing All Inclusive vacation the last few years and even signs clearly posted don't stop people. It is annoying without swear words if you don't care for that kind of music.

Experienced the SAME THING on Harmony this August from a rather large group of folks who thought that they were the ones in charge of the ship all week and could do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted!

Radio blaring in the smoking section from the minute they woke up until it was time to pass out again - and again, where talking the same music that NO ONE wants to hear (but them). They basically over-took the smoking section on the pool deck all day long, and a few times the "herd" flocked to the casino where said radio was still blaring garbage music.

All in all, we did whatever we could to avoid the herd, and it looked like any RCI official was doing the same thing and didn't want to make a scene

I agree they SHOULD do something about it. But most likely even if they established a "rule" about speakers it would be enforced like the rules on chair hogs and balcony smokers.:rolleyes:

Agree, I won’t tolerate it on a balcony within earshot of mine either; again, I have had luck with security intervening in these matters.

I was on that cruise also. I was sitting at the pool bar when the 4 college kids and there speaker showed up. They ordered shots. That was my Q to head up the SL.

My grandparents use to complain about all the Hooligans blaring that funky disco crap at the beach from their boom boxes.

Things haven't changed much. Now, I know that not everyone liked my disco, and so I use headphones.

I use a bluetooth speaker on my balcony all the time. But I have it facing inward and at a reasonable level. I suspect it would be almost impossible to hear from the next balcony.

Last week on Oasis, I departed my room on the 17th floor and encountered two gentleman walking along with their Bluetooth speaker blaring. They joined me on the elevator and I politely said, I hope your need for attention wont prevent you from at least turning that off while we are all in this elevator. They complied.

My educated guess is that Cigar King's music is no louder than a normal human conversation. That's how we treat our balcony with a bluetooth speaker.

You know what would be even better as a "neighborly thing"? Not listening to music on a speaker sitting just feet away from where your neighbor would be, only separated by a thin divider. Or turning it off if you hear the door open. You know, being considerate so your neighbor doesn't have to notify you that you are being inconsiderate... Even easier, putting headphones on.

Sound carries on the balconies. You neighbor can hear EVERY conversation you have on the balcony, even if you are speaking in a quiet voice.

Please don’t use speakers on the balcony.
