wondering about transfer from airport to Rotterdam port any suggestions beside Hal transfer?

Assuming you are flying into Rotterdam airport - to pick up a HAL ship for a cruise that ends in Boston? Or are you going from the Boston airport to get to the port in Boston to meet the Rotterdam ship. (Yikes, I got confused)

We did a transfer once from Amsterdam airport to the Rotterdam port - took the train to the Rotterdam central station and then took a cab to the Rotterdam dock.

However, there is also a Rotterdam city tram/metro station (both) that is only a short distance to the Rotterdam dock that connects to the Rotterdam central train station if you don't have a lot of luggage to juggle. I am assuming there is a connection between the Rotterdam airport to the city central train station. This is sounding complicated with various changes in mode of transit however.

Or as you say, take the HAL transfer which we always find convenient but time-wasting since one does not get to make and immediate transfer connection.

If this is the other option - going to the Rotterdam ship from the Boston airport to the Boston cruise terminal, the best option is a cab - they are only a short distance apart on the map but somehow the cabs always go the long way.

Take the Intercity Direct train from Schiphol to Rotterdam Central. The train leaves every half hour and the ride takes 26 minutes. From there, transfer to the subway to Rotterdam, Wilhelminaplein, a 5 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Or take a taxi from Rotterdam Central to the cruise terminal.

sorry for confusion We are arriving at the amsterdam airport and then leaving from rotterdam to boston

Schiphol airport has direct train service to Rotterdam Centraal station without having to go into Amsterdam. It's about 53 minutes with stops at Leiden, Den Haag, and Delft. There are also nonstop trains that take about half the time.

From Rotterdam Centraal you can take the Metro (subway) 4 stops to Wilhelminaplein, which is near the cruise terminal, if you can handle your luggage, otherwise a taxi.

There is both an above ground tram and a speedier underground metro going from the Rotterdam Central train station to the stop by the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. Check the time schedules for the day you arrive -schedules are more abbreviated on weekends.

You will need either EU coins or a Dutch-validated credit card method of paying for the train or metro at their kiosks, unless you find an open ticket office. Best to check all this out on Dutch railway system website.

Paying for train tickets in Holland is a bit complicated depending on your method of payment. If you are from Norway, you will need to obtain Euros ahead of time obviously. It was a very quirky system for those of us from the USA trying to use a US credit card - did not work at the kiosks.

Exact change Euros only was required. Credit cards had to be part of the Dutch banking system. We gave up trying to use the underground metro kiosk on a Sunday morning when no staff was around. But did find the above ground tram conductor did make change for our Euro bills since we did not have the right number of EU coins. We also learned in the US there was no way to obtain EU coins ahead of time. The website tells you the fares so you can plan ahead for this if you use the system on a day when many things are closed.

Many trainstations in The Netherlands now also have machines that accept creditcards, more info here:https://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/traveling-with-the-ov-chipkaart/ns-ticket-machines.html

You however need to have a PIN to use them,
