Pacific Pearl at Grain Terminal today , 3 Sep

Just noticed on the bridge cam that Pacific Pearl is at FI today. Doesn't she usually berth at Portside.

Any special reason for the change?

i dont know but we are cruising next year on the Sun Princess and we'll be in Brisbane the same day as the Pearl but they are at the Grain Terminal and we'll be at Portside that day but we'll have passengers disembarking and maybe embarking too on the way to Sydney

I noticed that too, David and wondered why. Dawn Princess was at Portside in Brisbane on its way to Alotau, but I'm sure that was Wednesday.

I asked this on Facebook the last time the Pacific Pearl was at the Grain Terminal last month.

Someone who was on the Pacific Pearl at the time said "it was something to do with the ships thrusters not being certified to go further up the river. This was from a chick doing the future cruise presentation."

or it could be something to do with the tides.

It must be something about the ship, as Pearl's been in Brisbane several times in the last couple of months, and each time she's been at the Grain terminal, even when there hasn't been another ship at Portside.

Pearl has, however, been up to Portside in the past so it must be something new.

Another possibility is the fuel she uses. She was one of the last ships designed to burn a very heavy "bunker oil" . (Not sure of all the tech jargon ) but you can see it sometimes , when she is belching a lot of smoke , while still sitting at the dock.

No, don't think it's that.. Some of cargo ships that come up to Hamilton wharf are pretty grubby. More likely to be something that would affect her maneuverability in the tight channels in the river and the swing basin at Portside.
