Price hikes

I did a spot check to compare 2018 and 2019 Q6 base fares for the U.S. shown on cunard.com for a few other eastbound crossings (New York to Southampton) during other months of the year. Here is what I found which tends to indicate what the OP has found for pricing on the January 3 eastbound crossings may be an aberration. Looks like the Q6 fares have dropped $200-$300 per person in 2019 on these other crossings.

EBTA 17 May 2018 - Q6 = $5,999 (M818A)

EBTA 24 May 2019 - Q6 = $5,699 (M911)

EBTA 10 Jun 2018 - Q6 = $6,099 (M821)

EBTA 07 Jun 2019 - Q6 = $5,799 (M916A)

EBTA 06 Jul 2018 - Q6 = $6,499 (M825)

EBTA 07 Jul 2019 - Q6 = $6,199 (M920)

EBTA 26 Aug 2018 - Q6 = $6,499 (M832)

EBTA 18 Aug 2019 - Q6 = $6,199 (M925)

EBTA 09 Sep 2018 - Q6 = $6,099 (M834)

EBTA 15 Sep 2019 - Q6 = $5,799 (M929A)

EBTA 25 Oct 2018 - Q6 = $5,899 (M840)

EBTA 18 Oct 2019 - Q6 = $5,699 (M933A)

EBTA 11 Nov 2018 - Q6 = $5,899 (M834)

EBTA 10 Nov 2019 - Q6 = $5,599 (M936)

EBTA 08 Dec 2018 - Q6 = $5,899 (M846)

EBTA 08 Dec 2019 - Q6 = $5,599 (M940)

Note this does not include the additional 5% discount available on 2019 sailings for past passengers who book by the end of November.

Regards,

John

The bottom line is that it becomes.increasingly difficult to plan effectively

Yeah, I hear you. I have not been tracking the prices for the January 3 crossings, but the current $3,299 Q6 fare for the January 3, 2018 crossing might reflect a reduction now that we are within 120 days of that sailing. That's the point at which cancellation penalties start to kick in for U.S. bookings, so I suppose there could have been some last-minute cancellations on the 2018 sailing within the past week or so.

Has anyone noticed that grill accomodations on qm2 in 2019 are easily 25-30% higher than in 2017-18?. Can anyone comment on whether these fares are likely to be discounted or the increase is here to stay?

Prices in all grades of "Steerage" have also increased by the same percentage for 2018 and I assume they will only decrease if the mysterious price algorithm shows a marked decrease in bookings.
